FSX crashes when loading Zurich 2.0
« on: August 09, 2011, 12:03:35 pm »
I have recently purchased Zurich X (ver 2.0). My SO is Windows 7-64 bits and I have got FSX with SP2. FSX crashes only when I select Zurich as initial airport, no matter what I do. Sometimes while loading, but mainly, it crashes about 20 seconds after loading, yet seeing my airplane (no matter which one)  at h/p. But I know about crash almost inmediately, if I get no response from FSX menu when I pass my mouse over it.
FSX crashes, gives a severe error message (no further explanation), and tries to restart. I have read some topics in this forum, deleted some essellerate.dll files mentioned, but no way  >:(
It seems to me (maybe I'm wrong) that it is an issue with addon manager (the one included with version of LSZH X that I downloaded from your web a couple of days ago), wether this product has been registered or not. Thought also of some kind of interaction with switzerland professional X, but I still get the error without that addon.
I have also read about an error with smartassembly, that I saw a couple of times, but, to be honest, I don't remember in which state was my FSX when I saw it, or even if it has something to do with FSX, because that message remained in background, and I could only see it when I minimize every window on my desktop.

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for your support.
Luis  ;)

First, what it's sure, it's not a problem of the Addon Manager because, if it was, we would have many reports about this, but yours is the first one.

When there's a problem with the Addon Manager, almost invariably related to the antivirus interfering or (in a few cases) the wrong version of Esellerate which has been mistakenly installed in the wrong folder by *other* addons using it, either FSX will not load at all OR, the Addon Manager will not display, but FSX will load normally, it would never happen that it will crash only when you go to the airport, because the Addon Manager loads when FSX starts, not when you select the airport. When you are creating your flight, the Addon Manager is already running.

Also, if you are seeing an error about Smartassembly, it's 100% sure it's not an Addon Manager problem or an FSDT problem. Smartassembly it's only related to products programmed using the .NET framework and, none of our addon modules use .NET, are affected by it, or make any difference if .NET is properly installed or not.

You can probably get more informations about your crash, if you open the Windows Control Panel, go to the system administration tools section, and select the Event Viewer, you should be able to find the FSX crashes in the Applications log, and selecting that crash event will give you more details about which FSX module crashed.

Thanks a bunch for your assistance, Virtuali  :).
My Event log, reports errors on FSX.exe (logical) and MSVCR80.dll, version 8.0.50727.5592. This is part of MS Framework, isn't it?
That was the reason I thought about an issue with addon manager (such an event log entry, only when loading LSZH), but I told you, I am probably wrong, sorry.
So, with this new information, do you think this could have anything to do with your product?
Thanks again for your help.
 ;)

My Event log, reports errors on FSX.exe (logical) and MSVCR80.dll, version 8.0.50727.5592. This is part of MS Framework, isn't it?

That .DLL is used by mostly everything in Windows, BOTH the .NET Framework (which we don't use at all), but also by the VC++ runtimes, which we use, but basically everything in Windows uses too.

If you posted the full error details, that includes error codes and memory offsets, it might be useful to understand *where* the MSVCR80.dll is crashing.

Of course, the problem is not *caused* by the Addon Manager, you must have some problem with those runtimes, and this might also be triggered by another Addon, which use .NET (you said you had a Smartassembly error) and this library too.

You can try this:

- Go in the Windows control panel, and Uninstall ALL the istances of the Visual Studio 2005 redistributable runtimes. You might have more than one version, remove them all.

- Then, after removing everything related to VS2005, reinstall again these 3 files:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=32BC1BEE-A3F9-4C13-9C99-220B62A191EE&displaylang=en
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=200b2fd9-ae1a-4a14-984d-389c36f85647&displaylang=en
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=766a6af7-ec73-40ff-b072-9112bab119c2&displaylang=en

One after the other one, in this order. Use always the vcredist_x86.exe, even if your OS is 64 bit, we are dealing with 32 bit apps, so they need a 32 bit runtime.

Unstalled VC++2005 (spanish, redistributable, SP1 and ATL update), and installed again. Nothing  >:(
I was able to see the message "Trial period for FSDreamTeam Zurich X has started", and then... CTD.
Seems that VC++ distributable in my machine was up-to-date, because version reported now is lower.
Former XML data of error event was:

I can only point you out to this thread:

http://www.fsdreamteam.com/forum/index.php?topic=1264.0

Where the user had exactly the same problem, the most useful data is the crash offset 00050804, which is the same. He fixed it by reinstalling FSX, so there's still something broken in the VS2005 runtimes installed in your system, that the FSX installer fixes somehow.

There was a known bug in the VS2008 runtimes (used by some PMDG products) that a specific version corrupted the MSVCR80.DLL from 2005.

Of course, according to the other report, reinstalling FSX fixed the problem, so it clearly wasn't caused by the sceneries, other than they being affected by it.
