Ok, here we go with today's interesting trouble shooting
I deleted anything in the fsx.cfg that had "HornetFCS.dll" in it. Double checked it with the Find feature, all using NotePad. Opened as Admin, as usual. Saved it off, and closed it. I deleted all versions of any form of F-18, except the default.
Opened FSX. Loaded the default F-18, no problems. Rechecked the fsx.cfg file, no HornetFCS entry of any sort. So far, so good. Closed FSX, and loaded the v17.1.31. Started FSX, and selected the v17.1.31 from the menu, as usual. Before selecting Fly Now, I checked the fsx.cfg, the 2 entries for the v17.1.31 were there, as I expected.
Not what I'm used to from FSX, as it never popped up the little windows asking if I wanted to trust etc etc., but it seems Steam changed FSX somehow so that it doesn't any longer.
Selected Fly Now, and once it loaded, got the FAIL message on the HUD. As I expected. Including to two warning lights on the Warning Light panel. FCS HOT and Bus Tie Failure. As expected.
Ok, as a test, I copied the entire Panel.Fleet from the v16.1 into the v17 folder, as Panel.Fleet1, and assigned an entry in the aircraft.cfg to it. Shut down FSX. Restarted FSX, and selected the plane I'd chosen for the v16 panel. So, now I'm checking the v17 plane, with the v16 Panel.Fleet folder, including it's own, older version of the Hornet.FCS.dll file. A panel I KNOW worked previously. Flashing FCS FAIL on the HUD.
Selected a plane with the v17 panel, the FCS Fail wasn't flashing, but still there.
Double checked the C++ Redist 2015. The X86 version is still properly installed. I even uninstalled the X64 version of it, to be certain. No help.
Something on my system is keeping any plane with any HornetFCS.dll version from functioning. No idea what/why/where/how, yet, but I'll get it figured out. Sooner or later. The .dll file is making a call to SOMEthing on my system that is missing. I'll get it yet. I'm closing in, and I think I've eliminated the actual HornetFCS.dll file as the problem...
I'll keep working when I can on this.
