« on: September 23, 2008, 06:26:55 pm »
 Hello, I bought the scenery yesterday but I have some problems. After instalation some files apear in my desktop, a reg file, and others. I tried to move them to my FS folder but my system do not allow to move some files. So I unistall the scenery. The file named "^." stays in my desktop and can't be moved, or deleted! And worse, I can't reinstall the sceney because my FS crash!!! Any ideas???? I'm very unhappy!

It's certainly not related to our program.

Our installer will not put anything on the Desktop, not even a shortcut. And, certainly nothing with names like "^."

This looks more like a problem with your machine and file corruption, that sometimes leads to strange names. Possibly a virus, but also a file system corruption issue.

The only way the installer would be fooled into putting files in the Desktop (but still, we don't have anything with that name), is that your Windows registry was wrongly pointing your FS9 main folder to be the Desktop, which is not normal. Our installer asks to Windows where FS9 is, Windows looks in the registry, and if the registry has been edited or went corrupted for any reason, and reports that FS9 is installed in the Desktop, our installer will simpy comply and put its files there.

However, given the presence of that strangely named file, I think it looks more like a file system problem. Have you tried making a scandisk ? When was the last time you Defragged your hard drive ?

I will try the scandisk. My last defrag was last month. Maybe this archive has some correlation with the .rtf file with the data of purchase that I saved on desktop. But why I can't install the scenery anymore? Anyway, I wil do the scandisk later and post de results. Thanks.

There's no reason why you shouldn't be able to reinstall. Try to uninstall first, reply "Yes" to the question about removing the Addon Mananger. This will entirely clean up the previous installation, so you can start again. Note that, you can uninstall/reinstall as many times you whish, the registration will never be lost.

Scandisk = done
defrag = done
Problem = the file still exist.

So, I use the system restauration of windows, but the file continue on my desktop! And my scenery doesn't work. The instalation is OK but my screen comes blank after a few seconds! And yes, I actvate the scenery!

You wouldn't expect scandisk+defrag would automatically get rid of that file for you!

Maybe it's something entirely different and, if this is the case, it doesn't have anything to do with FS9 crashing at start. It might be that you simply typed something on the keyboard when you saved the receipt on the desktop, and that resulted in an illegal file name which Windows won't let you delete.

Have you tried running Windows in Safe mode (press F8 at start) and deleting it from there ?

Have you tried to uninstall it, replying "Yes" to the question if you want to remove the Addon Manager ? This will put you back before you started.

However, you said you activated the scenery. But, in order to activate the scenery, you first have to install it, go into FS9, and open the menu to activate it. This means, the simulator DID worked, when you have initially installed the scenery!

Could be that what you think is a "black screen" it's just that your video card can't handle full screen mode correctly with a dialog, and you simply have a dialog with a message behind waiting for an input ?

Try to run FS9 in a Window.

Ok, you do not understand me! Probably because my English, sorry about that. I expected that the file could be deleted after scandisk, just it. After the scandisk + defrag I used the windows restore. A tool to "back in time" (last time I put the word "restauration" wich was totally wrong! Sorry!uhauhauahua). With this tool (I don't know if the name is correct in english), I was able to reinstall the scenery and activate it. After the activation I restarted FS and have the messages to confirm the activation on my screen. The problem is that when I try to fly the screen freezes or turns black after takeoff. My FS crash, or my PC lock! There is no dialogs behind. I never had nothing like it whith other sceneries or ADD-ons. And I have several of them! It's very strange it's happens right after installing your scenery don't you think? And when I uninstall it all back to normal! And yes, I unistall the ADD-ON Manager too.

My config: Atlhon 64 X2 5000+ Geforce 7200 GS 256MB RAM, 2 GB RAM DDR2 667 mhz, HD 400 GB.

There's absolutely no need to use a System Restore. We have an Uninstaller, like any Windows program, on the Windows Control Panel. If you uninstall the product and (important) you reply "YES" to the question if you want to remove the Addon Manager, it will entirely clean up everything that was put there. The ONLY thing that is not removed, is your activation. Instead, if you use System Restore, you'll lose the activation as well, so you need to re-activate when you reinstall the scenery.

Try this:

- Uninstall, reply "Yes" when it asks if you want to remove the Addon Manager.

- Verify that FS9 starts correctly. If it does, put it in WINDOWED MODE (Alt+Enter), then exit, so it will save this setting.

- Download again our latest JFK installer. This will ensure you have the latest version with all the fixes we put on the forum.

- Install JFK

- Run FS9, activate the scenery all in Windowed mode

- Confirm everything works, exit from FS9

- Now you can launch it again, and put it in full screen, if you want to.

  Hello again, today I had more time to test the scenery and the result was not good. For some reason after some time using the scenario, approximately 5 minutes, my screen is black and FS closes. All I have is that the standard error message saying that microsoft fs needs to be closed and asking if I want to send the error report to Microsoft. With this, I can not program the FMC of any airplane and I can not taxiing to the gate after landing because my FS closes! I already checked and the scenary is activated. I remember that already install and uninstall several times and I'm tired of it.

   I noticed in other posts that you always put the blame on the user's computer instead of checking imperfections in your work, so if you put the blame on my PC again, please return my money because I will not format my HD because of this scenery! I have some others sceneries, and will buy more but this time only the AEROSOFT, Tropicalsim or FLY TAMPA because they works! I await a solution.

Take a close look at your scenery library... it sounds like you have a freeware version of JFK active, or some other scenery of New York, like Mega Scenery, perhaps... I had similar funky behavior with Zurich, because I had forgotten to remove a free version.

If you really had read other forum posts, up to their conclusion, you would have noticed that ALL problems were eventually fixed by users in ways that didn't had anything to do with the scenery, from drivers problems, to corrupted texture in AI models, to other products in conflicts, etc.

And, of course, your statement that we don't check for bugs in our scenery instead, are clearly refuted by the fact that the few issues (which didn't resulted in crashing anyway) in the scenery have already their fixes posted on the forum, and the current installer already includes all of them.

There is a reason why we offer a Trial. Since it's not possible to anticipate all the possible software/hardware configurations out there that might create problems, we offer the product in Trial version, so anyone can freely test on his own system. The Trial is exactly the same as the full version, there's no expiration date, there's no limit how many times you can test the scenery for 6 minutes, exit from FS, tweak your system, launch it again, test the scenery again, and so on.

I really had another scenery freeware, but I already uninstall it. I have also mega scenery, there is some
known conflict between them? I am uninstalling the megascenery now, I will see what happens. Thanks for your help!

I think the most probable cause of a crash after some minutes, is a corrupted texture in one of the AI models, because it takes some time for the AI traffic to fill up the sector around JFK. It would also explain why you don't see it at other airports, because it might be a model that, becuase of the traffic schedule, appears only at JFK, or appears at other place too, but perhaps after waiting much more.
