GSX Pro apparently installed ok but not showing in MSFS2024

Hi,

I haven't done much airliner flying for the last six months, but went to do a couple of flights recently. Unfortunately, GSX seems to have become non-functional on my system. Not appearing on the menu bar, and not popping up with the function key either. Tried a few un/re-installs but no joy, tried removing possible clashing addons, likewise.

I then stripped my 2024 system back down to factory fresh, with nothing in the community folder, de-activated, uninstalled and then activated and installed GSX Pro again. Still no joy.

I also have a full 2020 system, and GXS is working fine on that. So I more than a bit puzzled. I've been searching through the posts here and elsewhere but can't see an equivalent issue/solution.

Your installed screenshots looks fine so, your situation seems very strange, because:

- "Not appearing in the menu bar" can only happen if the product is not even present in the Community folder. Even if the software didn't run at all, you should AT LEAST see the menu icon. But if it wasn't present in the Community folder, the installer wouldn't indicated it as "Installed"

- "not popping up with the function key" this is instead normal: you can't use the hotkey until AFTER you opened the menu once from the toolbar and closed it with either the hot key or the X icon.

- About the 3rd image in the Config page, it's entirely normal to be blank in MSFS 2024, which is explained in the orange text saying why it's empty.

Are you sure the two GSX packages in the Community folder are Symbolic links (with a small arrow) and not real folders ?

definitely symlinks, and GSX is definitely, (or seems to be definitely) not there in the menu bar. I'm very aware that the menu bar in 2024 is another one of those things that seems to have been a bit crippled compared to 2020, no tool tips and a bit unreliable, but I can't think of any reason why it would pick on GSX to just ignore.

I have just tried deleting those symlinks and creating my own symlinks (actually junctions) but that didn't make any differernce.

I also tried putting the symlinks in the "Community2024" folder instead of the "community" folder. Again, no difference.

I do have a copy of //42's  "Flow Pro" menu replacement package. I've not installed it yet but I'll try that tomorrow in case this is all down to some weird bug with the menu in my 2024 system. Nothing would surprise me.

I'll be more than happy to discover I'm doing something stupid here, but I can't really see what that could be.

OK, tried Flow Pro and it's not seeing GSX either.

Also tried with actual folders, rather than symlinks, in the community folder - no better (I've put things back now)

So pretty much run out of ideas other than reinstalling 2024. And I'm not prepared to do that at this point.

After many further failed attempts to get GSX to appear, I've ended up doing a complete re-install of MSFS 2024. I tried a "verify and repair" but that didn't work, so a completely fresh install was necessary. With all the fun and games that entails - it's not that complex a procedure but all the defaults and location stuff seems to have changed since my initial install. At least my control settings survived the reinstall.

So GSX Pro now working again.

I'm fairly sure I must have had a dodgy SU4 update. A couple of other weird things kept happening, and one of them at least was confirmed as a bug known to occur with some (but not all) SU4 updates.

That's very likely because, as I've said in my first reply, even if you had a completely faulty GSX installation from the software side (=couatl engine not running or not even installed, for example), if the package is in the Community, you should always see at least the toolbar menu icon, possibly with a not working menu, because the menu is just an html file (not depending on any software), so it should always work as long the package is installed.

Yes, it does feel like an SU4 issue. And I'm still getting odd little weird things happening after the re-install. Which is not terribly encouraging, as the chances of getting any kind of resolution before maybe SU5 seem slim. I can't even seem to replicate specific issues, which means reporting a bug to Asobo is impossible.

Oh well, not much I can do about it I guess.
