3.6.1 or 3.6.2?
« on: July 27, 2025, 10:25:39 pm »
Now I'm confused...when launching FSDT Installer, I'm told the latest version is 3.6.1 and the installed version is 3.6.1. However, checking the release notes, these refer to 3.6.2 being the most current version 🤔

Ok, looks something went wrong over here then. Because here it says 3.6.1 is the latest and trying to update still gives me 3.6.1 when finished.

I'm unable to update at all. I'm still on 3.59.

And here we go again...

This time with 3.7.0 reported as installed and latest version while release notes (and the warning message you get inside MSFS) reports 3.7.1 being the latest version.

I fail to understand how this can be so hard to make work properly 🤔

Edited to add I thought I would try to use offline installer but quickly realized that one has not been updated for over a month according to the title. So no reason going that route.

...and edited again to report, suddenly it's working where I was now able to update to 3.7.1.

Really odd but happy it's back to normal again without having to spend too much time reinstalling GSX etc.

I thought I would try to use offline installer but quickly realized that one has not been updated for over a month according to the title. So no reason going that route.

You are referring to the FORUM POST, that doesn't automatically mean the Offline installer ITSELF hasn't been updated, because in fact it has.

The problem is likely your local cloudflare node that hasn't been updated with the latest version. We don't have any version other than 3.7.1 on our server, but nobody connects to our server directly, you all connect to your local cloudflare node, and of course every time there's an update, we use the SAME (single) API call to communicate cloudflare with a list of updated files, so their nodes would know they must refresh their version.

Most nodes do this in seconds, some in hours, some might be stuck for days. There's no way for us to know that, it's completely outside our control and you can verify this is the case, if you use a VPN, so you would connect to a different node, showing the problem has never been GSX, the FSDT Installer or the FSDT server, it was JUST a cloudlfare network replication delay.

Fair enough but don't you think it would be nice also the title was updated? For your customers to know what version they can expect to download. Rather than having your customers download the offline installer to find out what version it actually is.

About the Cloudflare nodes not being updated which I've seen you referring to many times, that again does little to help your customers when they are not getting the latest version when using the update functionality in your software. Using this platform to distribute updates was your choice, not your customers choice. Putting the blame on a service/platform you chose to use for your software feels quite stupid IMO.

All good now though and I'm on 3.7.1 which is the latest version both according to what is reported in the UI as well as in the release notes.

Rather than having your customers download the offline installer to find out what version it actually is.

If you suspect you need the Offline installer, you should ALWAYS re-download it: it's offline!

This means, knowing if it's the latest version or not, is not really your concern, it's enough for you to know the Offline installer it's always updated (so you must download it again), and it surely is, for every smallest code change. Because, the Offline installer contains only the main GSX code and the latest installer, so it can't be always used as a replacement for a normal Online installation.

Well, luckily, I haven't had to use it that many times during the years I've been using GSX and I hope it will continue that way  ;)
