Live Update Oddities - Not Updating?
« on: June 11, 2025, 06:31:25 pm »
hi - I run Live Update each time before I start MSFS 2024 (pc). I then get a message from the GSX menu inside the sim that GSX is out of date.

Check you are not still in Beta, or try the Offline installer.

This is quite strange. I'm for sure not on beta. If I run the Universal installer, it says GSX is 3.5.5, yet I updated to 3.5.6 yesterday. There's some strangeness with the standalone live updater that reverts to 3.5.5.
As I write this, i'm using the Universal Installer to update again to 3.5.6. Once it completed, I closed the installer, then I opened universal installer again, and now it says '3.5.6 is installed. 3.5.5 is latest'. And the 'update' button is orange. What could be going on?

Cloudflare replication delays. The installer doesn't know anything about the latest version, except what it can see from the internet. Version 3.5.5 doesn't exists anymore since more than a week, and even the beta channel is completely empty so, even if you didn't exit out of it, it would show 3.5.6 and will download that, because we don't have any other version online, and every request on the beta channel domain is automatically routed to the release channel.

However, if your local cloudflare node suffered from a replication delay, it will show an outdated copy of our server, one where 3.5.5 was still the latest version available. Some nodes updates in minutes, some in hours, some take some days, it's completely outside our control, your only recurse is:

- Not assuming it's an installer "bug"

- Use this weird information (your installed version being newer than the latest one) to know it's a network problem.

- Use a VPN to connect to another node, or use the Offline Installer, or wait until the problem will fix itself. It always does.

Thanks - yesterday everything seemed to resolve itself and 3.5.6 was the latest version.

Today though, I opened the universal installer, and now GSX reports 3.5.5 is the latest version. I didn't update, but instead opened the sim. In the GSX menu at the bottom is a green hash line reporting my version of GSX is "GSX Pro Test 3.5.6". Should I ignore the update prompt from the installer to revert to 3.5.5?

Other issue I'm having (with this 3.5.6 test version) is GSX becomes unresponsive in the sim 'Loading Menu' is displayed and couatl has to be restarted.

Ignore everything and just use the Offline installer. Same as the Beta channel, the Test channel has been removed entirely, it doesn't exists anywhere on our server.

Coming back to this - I haven't used either the universal installer or Live update in the last 4 days. I've noticed I think starting yesterday, that the universal installer is reporting 3.5.6 is latest, but I have 3.5.8 installed.
In the sim, I still get the green hash line at the bottom of the gsx menu reporting 'test version 3.5.8'. All is working as intended, no issues with performance or services.
How do you recommend I update moving forward? The offline updater doesn't list what version its updating to.

that the universal installer is reporting 3.5.6 is latest, but I have 3.5.8 installed.

The installer reads the version online, that's its reality. We don't have 3.5.6 anywhere on our site but, the problem is, you are not connecting to our site, you are connecting to your local cloudflare node that must have simply delayed in replicating our origin server, it will probably in a few days. That's why we have the Offline installer: to cover exactly these cases.

Sure it does, it shows the version when you start it, with the readme for the version as well.

Thanks - I was meaning on the webpage.

as of today, Universal install is reporting 3.5.8 is latest.
Odd how this had stayed for a few days, and then reverted to 3.5.6 as latest.

That's Cloudflare magic happening on your local node we really don't understand.

We don't have any control over what individual nodes do. We just send an API request to "forget this file", or "forget this folder" or "forget this entire domain", which we obviously sent (multiple times) and of course, I can see the changes on my own local node (I'm in Switzerland, so I am randomly connected either to the Frankfurt node or the Milan node) happening it 20-30 seconds at most, 100% of the time. What the other nodes in the world do, is completely a black box to us.
