Addon Manager crashes P3D 3.4
« on: February 06, 2017, 10:55:23 am »
I've tried to install the most recent version of FSDT KORD in P3D 3.4.22.19868 but the addon manager seems to crash it. Whatever I do I get the "a fatal error has occured" when P3D loads up. So I even went so far as to completely reinstall P3D from scratch. It loads ok, but when I install (as admin, virus scanner off) the most recent version of the addon manager I get the same error again. I noticed that when I delete the exe.xml and dll.xml in C:\ProgramData\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v3 the sim starts ok, but then the addon manager doesn't show so I can't use any FSDT or Flightbeam sceneries.

I installed the new PMDG 744 V3 when it was released a few days ago. Could that have anything to do with it? Untill then I had the error occur every now and then but I could fix it by deleting the prepar3d.cfg and have the program generate a new one. So I don't know if that was related to the Addon Manager. Now it clearly is.

I'm at a loss here. Does anyone have a hint?

Thanks

Matthias

I'm at a loss here. Does anyone have a hint?

Please contact me in private to arrange a Teamviewer session, because it's the only way I could see what's the problem in your case, since we are still unable to reproduce it in any way.

Hello Umberto,

this is the second time that whie editing this happens to me. only happens when editing GSX2. after this, the GSX dissapears from the addon menu.
Yesterday also, and i ended up having to reinstall a full backup of my pc, since is faster than reinstalling the p3d. I say this, because not even after restarting the pc, the gsx menu comes backup again in Addons. I tried uninstalling and instaling the gsx and it screws up the p3d so badly that it does not restart again.

Uninstalling reinstalling GSX surely doesn't screw up anything.

The problem is surely your restore of the whole PC from a backup, which clearly had returned your system to a previous state without the proper VC++ libraries which are installed when installing Prepar3D

How you could say restoring from a full backup is "faster" than reinstalling the simulator, is really beyond me...uninstalling/reinstalling P3D is very easy and shouldn't take more than 5 minutes.

Just the opposite I am saying.
When i restore the backup of all my drives to last week backup every thing goes back to normal and GSX comes back to the addn menu.
The question is what do we have to do, when an error of this sort (that only happens to me when editing GSX2) removes the addon from the menu. I tried everything, for starters, a live update2 to see if this returns the addon to its menu. nothing. The rest of the addons are perfectly there.
Any suggestions?
thanks

Also trust me that restoring the backup works perfect, takes me 3h while reinstalling my p3d with all its addons, etc takes me days

Just the opposite I am saying.

I understood what you said. That doesn't mean doing a restore is the right choice. It only shows that old installed worked, but don't mean the new GSX "screws up" anything. It only means your CURRENT installation has a problem, which is preventing GSX to work.

And the problem is, an update to something in your system that is causing a problem to the required libraries, so they now need to be fixed, and restoring from a full backup surely won't fix anything.

Of course, I checked it, and as you can see in the attached screenshot, GSX Level 2 works perfectly fine with P3D 3.4

Why you need to reinstall all the addons ? I routinely uninstall/reinstall P3D, and I never had to reinstall any addon. 5-10 minutes at most. Not hours, not days.

Umberto, this is not helping me much.
first yes, a full restauration of the system to a 1 week ago full backup, restores 100% of the files. and as i say yes it does work after that.
What i am asking  is what would you do if your GSX2 (the only thing that does not work after this) is not showing in addons, uninstall and install does not work. do you have any suggestions?
sorry i do not know what do you mean by the picture you sent.
I have a friend that this afternoon will give me the fix for p3d.cfg as to this not happen again, but my question is, once it has happen, how do you restore GSX2 with out having to reinstall?
thanks

Also trust me that restoring the backup works perfect, takes me 3h while reinstalling my p3d with all its addons, etc takes me days

Why you need to reinstall all the addons ? I routinely uninstall/reinstall P3D, and I never had to reinstall any addon. 5-10 minutes at most. Not hours, not days.
Lucky you! i tried that a couple of times when i had a problem and it caused an infinite number of problems. may be your disk configuration allows it to go smooth. not in mine.

Ok this is the thing. The first time i had this problem i uninstalled GSX using your uninst file. this is what yesterday did not allow me to enter the sim again and had to reinstall or whatever i do.
2 days ago, and today that i have had the same problem it worked when i uninstaled and installed gsx2 but using the windows remve program. this works just fine.
Maybe this can put a little light in this

And why you do that ? We *always* said to uninstall from the Windows Control Panel, not from the uninst.exe file, which might be related to an old installation.

Of course it works. The correct uninstaller is taken by windows by reading the registry, you are not supposed to start the uninst.exe file yourself.

Well, the windows registry is a mysterious beast, and nobody really knows everything about it. But I assure you the uninstall part is clear to me...

Now to mee too..
I had to reinstall AGAIN now. it has to do with the same airport, on the same parking position. I am going to uninstall the damm new LEMD Madrid from AS Simwings that came today. is a f....g mess. You tell it to go  to gate 515, and places the plane iin 505, some jetways are customizable by gsx2 others not, others it tells you that the jetway is isolated. others it crashes with this message i sent you, and u have to reinstall... i consider myself enough capable after customizing more than 34 airports with your gsx2.
I go with a fslabs 320 to a gate for a 320 and it places it on the wrong spot
I really can not understand how they launch a scenery of 33€ without the minimum basics on it. is worse than some sceneries of fsx or p3dv3. ridiculous
