No addon-manager entry in menu
« on: March 20, 2013, 11:16:38 pm »
Unfortunately, the addon manager entry in the addon-menu is missing. I’ve tried all that is described here, but the problem still exists.

- anti-virus is deactivated, bglmanx.dll + couatl.exe are excluded from scanning
- there are no (un-trusted) certificate entries of Virtuali in the internet options
- standalone addon-manager is installed
- GSX has been reinstalled a few times
- UAC is deactivated

The security messages appeared during the first start of FSX after the installation of GSX (also after deleting entries in trust-section in fsx.cfg) and I agreed all of them. However, the add-on-manager is still not working.
I hope you can help me solving the problem.
Thanks and sorry for my bad English.

Thanks for the answer.

I've exactly followed the steps mentioned in the tutorial, but there are still no entries in the addon-menu.
During every start of FSX now appears an error message, after I've executed step 3 in the tutorial:

couatl.exe - application error
The application could not be started correctly (0xc0150004). Klick on "OK" to close the application.

In addition, there does not exist any folder which contains the simconnect.dll with version 10.0.61259.0 after the repair of the Acceleration Expansion Pack.

Is there a solution to fix this?

Please, double and triple check this, because that would clearly indicate the cause of the problem, which is of course nothing related to any of our products, but is in fact your Simconnect installation being corrupted.

The folder is supposed to be under the \Windows\WinSxS folder.

There are folders with the versions 10.0.61242.0 and 10.0.60905.0, but no folder with version 10.0.61259.0:

- x86_microsoft.flightsimulator.simconnect_67c7c14424d61b5b_10.0.61242.0_none_e079b46b85043c20
- x86_microsoft.flightsimulator.simconnect_67c7c14424d61b5b_10.0.60905.0_none_dd92b94d8a196297

Furthermore, there are the following files that seem to belong to simconnect.dll in the folder C:\Windows\winsxs\Manifests\

- x86_microsoft.flightsimulator.simconnect_67c7c14424d61b5b_10.0.61259.0_none_55f5ecdc14f60568.manifest
- x86_microsoft.flightsimulator.simconnect_67c7c14424d61b5b_10.0.61242.0_none_e079b46b85043c20.cat
- x86_microsoft.flightsimulator.simconnect_67c7c14424d61b5b_10.0.61242.0_none_e079b46b85043c20.manifest
- x86_microsoft.flightsimulator.simconnect_67c7c14424d61b5b_10.0.61259.0_none_55f5ecdc14f60568.cat
- x86_microsoft.flightsimulator.simconnect_67c7c14424d61b5b_10.0.60905.0_none_dd92b94d8a196297.cat
- x86_microsoft.flightsimulator.simconnect_67c7c14424d61b5b_10.0.60905.0_none_dd92b94d8a196297.manifest

That's all I found relating to simconnect.dll

Do you think I have to reinstall FSX to repair the simconnect.dll? Unfortunately, I have no idea how the dll-file has been corrupted.

There are folders with the versions 10.0.61242.0 and 10.0.60905.0, but no folder with version 10.0.61259.0:

Those are from the original FSX and the SP1

Furthermore, there are the following files that seem to belong to simconnect.dll in the folder C:\Windows\winsxs\Manifests\

This means you had installed them at one time, because you still have the manifest files, but you lost the folders containing the actual .DLLs, which means no FSX addons that requires SP2 or Acceleration will ever work.

An Acceleration Pack REPAIR should fix it. If it doesn't, I'm afraid you don't have any other choice than to reinstall the whole FSX.

I've just removed all add-ons and FSX itself, rebooted my PC, applied CCleaner and reinstalled FSX again. I activated it, then installed the Acceleration Pack and also activated it. After that, I installed GSX immediately (also with antivirus off), started FSX, messages appeared and I accepted. But there are still no entries in the Addon-menu (respectively there is not any menu, because there are no add-ons apart from GSX installed).
The folder with the simmconnect.dll in version 10.0.61259.0 in C:\Windows\winsxs\ exists again. In addition, there is no entry relating to "Virtuali" in the certificate list in the internet options. Furthermore, there are entries for bglmanx.dll and couatl.exe under the Trusted-section in the fsx.cfg.
Unfortunately, I have no idea why GSX does still not appear in the menu. :(
Do you still have any ideas to solve this?

You might have fixed your Simconnect problem, but that doesn't mean you might have fixed all problems, try one of the other solutions posted here:

http://www.fsdreamteam.com/forum/index.php?topic=7545.msg62899#msg62899

Especially the VC++ libraries part.

I again followed exactly all the steps apart from step 3 of the link you've mentioned. But there are still no entries in the addon-menu.
During FSX is started, the task-manager says that couatl.exe is working, but there is not any effect one can notice in FSX.

you can activate the Simconnect diagnostic mode to see what's wrong with your install:

Open notepad, and copy the following text:

Code: [Select]
[SimConnect]
level=normal
console=1
RedirectStdOutToConsole=1
OutputDebugString=1
; file=c:\simconnect%03u.log
; file_next_index=0
; file_max_index=9

Save the file as SIMCONNECT.INI in this folder:

Documents And Settings\YOUR LOGIN NAME\Documents\Microsoft Flight Simulator X Files

At the next FSX launch, you should see a text window with diagnostic message, that should tell what's going wrong. Let me know what you are getting, so we can have an idea what's happening.

Only the first few lines are important: if the window scrolls too fast, you can use the "Pause" key on the keyboard to pause the scrolling. Post here only the first 10 lines or so of the diagnostic, but it's important you post the first 10 lines.

The diagnostic tool monitors the following:

-----
0.00000 SimConnect version 10.0.61259.0

0.46583 Exe Launched: Path="fsdreamteam\couatl\couatl.exe" CommandLine="" Version="2.0.0.2348"
0.48984 DLL Failed to load. Check for missing dependencies.
0.48992 DLL Load Failed: Error=-3 Path="bglmanx.dll"
> 1.86734 [ 0, 1]Open: Version=0x00000004 Name=Couatl"
-----

Any more lines do not appear, even until the FSX is closed.

Edit: I even went through these methods of resolution without any success.

0.48984 DLL Failed to load. Check for missing dependencies.

That's just confirms what I've said: missing dependencies means some system .DLL in your installation are either missing or corrupted.

The only dependencies our modules have, are the following:

1) The Simconnect DLLs

OR

2) the Microsoft VC++ 2005 runtimes.

Since your Simconnect now appears to be working, because the diagnostic works and shows the correct version, it leaves only with the MS VC++ 2005 runtimes, either missing or corrupted.

Repat all the possible steps about fixing the MS VC++ 2005 runtimes, this is nothing related to any of our products: if they are missing and/or corrupted, it will affect other software, even unrelated to flight sim.
