GSX setting not saved (The fix did work perfectly!!)
« on: March 15, 2013, 04:48:44 pm »
Hi Virruali,

As you can see in the Subject, GSX setting isn't saved.
I changed the Boarding time, Follow Me Car speed and so on,
and hit the "Apply" and "OK" button but the setting window doesn't disappear.
And when I restart FSX everything went back to the default settings.
I've searched this topic in the forum, and
I gave "full control on the %APPDATA%\Virtuali folder", but
I'm only user of this PC (Admin).

What should I do ?

Thank you.

Elly

This is not normal, and nobody ever reported it before. Settings not save are probably just a side effect of this. Check your %APPDATA%\Virtuali folder and see if you have a Couatl.ERR inside, if yes, post its content.

Thank you for your reply.

I realized this issue tonight, but it seems this issue began long before.
Anyway, I got a long err file and the contents are almost the same so,
I C&P the latest part (nothing in March).

Is this telling you something meangful?

Only that you had errors, but not recently (as you noticed, there's nothing in March). But you previous errors seems to indicate you had a problem creating files, like a possible permissions problem, which can also affect saving your settings.

Hi,

Admin setting is OK.
Isn't it strange that, though error happens many times threre's no record in err file?

So, I C&P latest log file.

I noticed the last line, "UnicodeEncodeError: 'ascii' codec can't encode characters in position 20-24: ordinal not in range(128)".
Doesn't it have something to do with this issue?

Thank you.

Re: GSX setting not saved (found the cause of this issue!)
« Reply #6 on: March 16, 2013, 09:22:10 am »
I found the cause of this issue.
The clue was  the word "UnicodeEncodeError" in the log file.

So I changed the Windows "system locale" from Japan to USA.
It worked!!
But I can't use other Japanese foftwares,
So I saved the GSX settings, then changed "system locale" back to Japan.

I wonder the other people using their mother language don't have this issue.

Anyway, thank you so much, Virtuali !

Elly

Ok, I suspected it had something to do with the system locale, we'll try to fix this.
