Numerous Install Problems
« on: July 14, 2011, 06:32:44 pm »
I'm having numerous problems installing your scenery on a newly rebuild system after the blue-screen death (not hardware related). I have made several attemps to install the JFK scenery to my system (including fresh downloads of the scenery & the addon manager) but get no trial version, no buildings, just ground detail without the "Couatl powered products" menu under the "Addons" menu. Please note that I have read several related posts in your forum and have turned off my eset anti-virus and disabled the windows firewall to install the product.

Btw...the activated JFK scenery exists on my old drive ( now "D") which is still attached to the system but the old Windows 7 64bit install has been removed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...Darryl

Are you missing ONLY the Couatl menu ? Do you see the Addon Manager menu at least ? If only Couatl is missing, than it's 100% sure you haven't correctly set the antivirus, please follow this to the letter, don't skip any step.

- Uninstall the scenery. Reply YES when asked if you want to remove the Addon Manager and the Couatl Engine. Reply YES to both questions.

- TURN OFF your antivirus. Don't just exit from its interface, but turn off the real time protection. Actual wording changes between products, however, it's the option to scan every file that gets open in real time, without user intervention.

- Reinstall the scenery with the Antivirus TURNED OFF. Don't launch FSX yet.

- Configure the antivirus to exclude the following files from scanning:

YourFSXFolder\bglmanx.dll
YourFSXFolder\fsdreamteam\Couatl\couatl.exe

YourFSXFolder it's usually C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X, if you installed it in the default folder.

- Now you can turn the antivirus back on, and launch FSX.

- Check you are seeing BOTH the "Addon Manager" menu AND the "Couatl powered products" menu under the "Addons" menu.

Kind of works following your exact instructions. Only problem, works in administrators log-in and not on standard like the rest of my FSX add-on's.

Only problem, works in administrators log-in and not on standard like the rest of my FSX add-on's.

There are many addons that requires your user to have admin rights, for example, on Flight1 forum, running FSX as administrator is suggested to run their wrapper so, it's not normal.

If you installed FSX in the default folder under c:\Programs (or C:\Programs (x86) ), running it as administrator is strongly suggested, because programs running with non-admin rights can't write in that folder, and this will cause issues with countless of addons.
