Cloud9 F-104A/G Starfighter
« on: May 06, 2010, 10:37:02 pm »
Hola,

Is the Version 1.03 26/10.2005 Manual the latest release?

I suspect one of the patches has modified the start routine and I'm unable to keep the aircraft started after using the process mentioned.

Thank you in advance.

Here's my problem, I can't spool up the aircraft.

1, GPU procedure completed

2, Engine Shutoff valve switched to OFF (as per patch, External Fuel ON, Pylons selected - SP2 procedure).

3, FUEL Booster Pump 2 switched to ON (more than one position?).

4, Starter Switch 1 clicked on and released (more than one position?).

Engine only spools up to about 25% but never exceeds that and then shuts down and the pit goes dark.

I am missing something here?

An extra note, if I move the throttle once I'm at 25% then it shuts down.

I'm sorry, but I don't know what to reply, other that nobody reported this problem.

Have you tried loading the default Cessna before selecting the F104 ?

So, load the default Cessna 172 at a default airport and go cold & dark? Then from in the game, select the F-104 & Aviano?

I think the problem must be with Cold & Dark in FS9. What is the procedure, with the default Cessna 172 to make sure I'm completely reset to Cold & Dark? Does "Ctrl-E" toggle all?

Must admit, other aircraft are working fine.

Do the F-104G "Gen 1 & Gen 2" switches need to be toggled before the GPU is disconnected?

The Automatic Fuel Shutoff Valve should be "Off" and do I leave the Red switch cover up?

Andrew,

I do not know why, but I think there is an error in the Cloud9 manual. I can start my 104 without any problems with the given procedure you posted above and what the C9 manual says, however I have the FUEL SHUT-OFF switch - ON, guarded! Try it this way, it should work.

I also looked up the procedure in the real F-104 manual, the pre-start checklist also calls for FUEL SHUT-OFF switch - ON, guarded. Next item is REFUEL switch - OFF, guarded. Maybe this step was falsely given as "Make sure ENGINE SHUTOFF emergency switch on left console is OFF" in the C9 manual.

Happy J-79 starting ;)

Ray or Anyone Else,

I gave up on this awhile back, but decided to fly some of the old aircraft again for fun.

Can you explain how the "Guarded" - "UnGuarded" switch works? I'm guessing (literally) that the "Red" guard is flipped open, then the switch is turned on and then you close the "Red" guard.

The guard itself, does not modify the position of the switch but rather just keep you from bumping it by mistake?

Solution found by DieselTen @ AVSIM.

Manual error. The manual v1.03 under "System Procedures" > "Engine Startup-sequence" > 2) Make sure ENGINE SHUTOFF emergency switch on left console is OFF;Switch is actually "FUEL SHUT-OFF", it needs to be "ON" and guarded. With the Cloud9 aircraft, setting the guard is manual (not auto like some).

Finally now I can get it started.

Sorry for the bump, great to hear you could solve the issue Andrew. Hope you have/had nice flights with the 104 already!
