Getting FSDT airports to work with GSX in FSX
« on: April 29, 2025, 08:46:02 pm »
I have been trying to get my owned airports (Hawaii 1 & 2, Honolulu, LAX) to work with my FSX Gold/Acceleration for a couple of days and have finally found the correct procedure (for me). I'm listing it here in case anyone else might find it useful. Even though the airports are seriously out-of-date (PHOG is missing the enormous parking garage they have there, for instance) they are still better than the the stock FSX airports, and since I bought them I'm still going to use them. Be sure you have your FSDT license keys/serial numbers before embarking.

1   Remove all FSDT sceneries in FSX.
2   Take all your FSDT installation files (for airports and GSX) and put them in another directory (e.g.,..\FSDTold).
3   Download new airport and GSX files from FSDT. Put them a different directory (e.g.,..\FSDTCurrent).
4   Install all of the airports.
5   Start FSX and verify that all the airports are there. Start a flight at a gate at each of them. If the airport looks odd (buildings not fully rendered, missing runway, taxi & apron markings, etc.) be sure you don't have multiple instances of the scenery installed. Go to the FSX Scenery Library and delete multiple instances so you have only 1 of each airport.
6   You will likely find that GSX is not listed under the FSX menu bar \Add-ons.
7   Shut down FSX.
8   Go to the SODE website (https://sode.12bpilot.ch/?page_id=1471) and download Installer_SODE_v1.7.1.msi
9   Download and install GSX & GSX Level 2. These will install SODE v1.8.0., which does not work with FSX Gold/Acceleration (at least in my case).
10   After GSX is installed, go the Windows Control Panel\Programs and Features and uninstall SODE v1.8.0.
11   Run the Installer_SODE_v1.7.1.msi previously downloaded, which runs in FSX Gold/Acceleration.
12   Start FSX and check each airport as before to see that GSX is functional.  Open the Addon Manager for each airport and register your serial number/license key for each if necessary.

I hope this may save you some time and frustration. I think that, overall, FSDT have done a wonderful job with their airports and GSX and I've gotten many hours of enjoyment using their products.
