Lights all over the airfield KEYW **SOLVED**
« on: February 17, 2021, 02:46:36 am »
Hello since the world update 3 today there are taxiway lights all over the KEYW airfield. I can't post a picture small enough here but I found a thread on MFS forums with a picture of the issue.

The problem has been already discussed in several threads on this forum, for example here:

http://www.fsdreamteam.com/forum/index.php/topic,24937.msg164703.html#msg164703

and

http://www.fsdreamteam.com/forum/index.php/topic,24936.msg164695.html#msg164695

It affects basically all airports that use custom shapes for runway edge lights ( called "Light Rows" in the Scenery Editor ). Asobo has of course already been notified about this and yes, it affects even some default airports which were added in the previous US update.

There's nothing we can do about it, other than waiting for a fix.

It looks like World Update 3 broke Key West. Now there are taxi lights everywhere. Another user posted a picture here: https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/key-west-airport-issue-since-world-update-3/366338. It appears that this may be a widespread issue across many third party products. I noticed taxi lights in the middle of taxiways at FSDT's KORD as well and others are complaining about this problem with other vendor's products.

Thank you for the update, so frustrating asobo seem to break things when doing updates so frequently.

We released a fix right now, just run the FSDT Live Update to get it.

This will only work for FSDT and Simmarket customers. If you bought the scenery on the MS Marketplace, you'll have to wait for it to be approved for release, we don't know exactly how much time it will take ( I guess many other developers are sending their patches now ), but we sent the update to the MS Marketplace right now.

Now, before anyone asks "why FSDT is releasing a patch, when they keep saying it's a bug in the sim and it's MS/Asobo that should fix it ?", I'll explain exactly what's really happening here:

It's very well know that it's enough to just recompile the scenery with the latest simulator/SDK to fix the taxiway lights problem, we found this hours after the update came out and I've explained it on the SDK section of the official MSFS forum too, so that's hardly news.

However, not all sceneries can be patched this way, because of ANOTHER BUG in the scenery compiler: if a scenery contains more than one Projected Mesh ( custom ground textures/markings/etc. ) it's not possible to compile it with the new SDK, because the resulting scenery won't show up all the ground textures correctly. It's clearly a new bug, because the same scenery compiled with the old SDK works just fine, but with messed up taxiway lights. This bug happens only if the scenery has at least TWO Projected Mesh elements.

The messed up lights affects ALL our airport EXCEPT Quiberon ( because it's a day only airport with no lights ), but Key West contained only ONE Projected Mesh, so it's the only one we could recompile without losing any ground textures/markings.

So, we fixed what we could from our side, that is KEYW, but for the others, we must wait for a real fix in the sim.

As of tonight 2/22, looks like they have not yet approved the update yet.

That's normal, we released the fix the 20th, which was SATURDAY, it would be unreasonable to expect the MS Marketplace fix would appear the next Monday. I've been told it should be avaialble sometime today.

Hotfix today fixed this issue!

Of course it did, even if we already fixed all our sceneries before.

The only one we couldn't fix, was Zurich, because it contained more than 2 projected mesh, so it couldn't be recompiled with the updated SDK ( which is what you were supposed to do to fix it before the Hotfix ), due to the OTHER bug fixed by the hotfix, which was not all projected mesh being visible if a scenery contained more than two of them. The hotfix fixed both issues, including at Zurich, so there's no need for an update anymore.
