Addon Manager Problems
« on: October 28, 2014, 08:49:31 pm »
I recently purchased the quality wings 757 which requires the addon manager from FSDT/virtuali. I installed it, clicked yes to all the FSX prompts and it crashed. I went in with another plane and looked for the "Addons" tab on the menu bar and it did not show up. I tried uninstalling the QW757 and re installing with the standalone addon manager first, no luck. I have tried all of the suggestions on the Quality Wings forum and none have helped. If somebody could help, I would greatly appreciate it.

- Go into Control Panel, Uninstall the QW757 and reply YES to the questions "Do you want to remove the Addon Manager ?" and reply YES to the question "Do you want to remove the Couatl script engine ?"

- TURN YOUR ANTIVIRUS OFF.

With the antivirus still disabled, reinstall the 757 and reinstall the Stand-Alone Addon Manager.

- BEFORE launching FSX, configure the antivirus to exclude the following files from scanning:

YourFSXFolder\bglmanx.dll
YourFSXFolder\fsdreamteam\Couatl\Couatl.exe
YourFSXFolder\gauges\QW757.GAU

- Now you can turn your Antivirus on, and launch FSX

- Note if FSX asks permission to run the Addon Manager and the Couatl programs, reply YES to both

- When FSX loads, check if you have BOTH the "Addon Manager" and the "Couatl powered products" under the "Addons" menu.

If still doesn't work, be sure you are NOT running FSX into any of the "Compatibility" modes under Vista/Win7 ( right-click on FSX.EXE, select "Properties", select "Compatibility" and be sure NOTHING is enabled in that page)

If still doesn't work, maybe you also have inadvertently Un-trusted us as a Publisher, so nothing signed by us will run.

To fix this, go to the Control Panel, under "Internet Options", look for the "Content" tab, there should be a "Publishers" button, that will list the software publishers that you trusted, and another tab with untrusted publishers. If you see "Virtuali s.a.s", remove it from both tabs (especially if it's under untrusted)

Did this work? I'm curious because my sim freezes up for about 7 minutes at a time during flights and if I leave it alone it will start running again. It runs okay for random amounts of time and then will freeze up, again for about 7 minutes, and then start running again. It seems to be something with the add-on manager because the sim runs flawlessly when the QW757 and the add-on manager are uninstalled. I do not have any other products that utilize the add-on manager.

Not sure if this is related to FSX hanging up.. In the meantime, I'm going to try this anti-virus fix and report back..

Your version is quite old.

Since it's not possible ( if you ran any FSDT installer recently ) to get this version by mistake, then only possible explanation, other than not having installed anything in the last months, is the antivirus is blocking the installation of the current version so, all the previous indications about antivirus must be applied.
