In a previous' post it has been mentioned that FSDT needs source material before they proceed with an update. ;)

And, since detailed aerial photos haven't been published yet, and time is passing and KORD will undergo ANOTHER major upgrade soon, which should hopefully be the final one, it might be better to simply wait for that, and (IF and WHEN aerial photos wil be available), make one big upgrade, with the airport in its final configuration.

Hi Umberto,

Obviously, assuming aerial photos and other required reference and resource materials become available, would you consider updating KORD after the MAJOR upgrades, which (like you said) hopefully will be done soon?  Or, are you waiting until the ENTIRE KORD modification is completed, which is scheduled for 2014?

If it's the latter, would you consider doing at least a couple updates to hold us over 'til 2014?

I know you've already touched on this, I just wanted to be clear.

Their's a possibilty that the major overhaul might be done before 2014 with all things considered. ::)

O'Hare is going through phase 2.......They have shortned 32L-14R to 9500' , some of the new cargo hangers are already in place......What photos do you need for any updates? I know 27R-9L or A.K.A, the north runway has been open for sometime now. There is going to be a new south tower, that started ground breaking a week or two ago......If I can help, let me know!!

Cheers,
Doug

Aerial pictures straight from the top, at about 1 mt/pixel resolution or better.

The reason for a major upgrade at O'Hare International was to add a better runway layout, with the old runway 18/36 being closed simpley of its short length. On airport diagrams its shown as taxiway WT. 9L/27R IS in use as well O'HARE tower North. The rest of the runways won't be open until either late this year or more so until next year. A so called West concourse(terminal) might not be built at present because both United and American Airlines are both opposed to it. Bottom line is this: Some changes have made sense and others changes miss the mark. ::)

The USDA FSA has aerial photos at 1 m/pixel resolution from 2009. I've attached a reduced resolution overview.

Wait hold on!!! The reason for the expansion is because King Richy AKA Mayor Daley thinks a redesigned airport layout will decrease airport delays! King Richy also doesn't like the idea of Atlanta having the "busiest Airport Crown" so making everything east-west should do the trick, right.....?? Depends who you talk to......Also Runway 36-18 has been closed for years!! Its used for taxiway movements ONLY!! Right now Lake O'Hare has been drained/moved so that runway 10C could be built.......
Last the west terminal was talked about only if Chicago got the Olympics.......since that horse never left the barn no need for it, or at least for now!!
Want to do some reading Google this:o'hare modernization program or go to this web site:

More later.....Doug

One of my points in fact is why close down the 14/32s(14R/32L is 13000ft long and 200ft wide) which never makes any sense at all :P If anything, the problem with the runway layout is not using it correctly with major air traffic patterns, takeoffs and landings. Another thing what I was saying about that west terminial was pretty much irresponsible considering that the commercial aviation traffic has'nt fully recovered and as such United Airlines and American Airlines principal gripe with the situation in hand as both air carriers have said the west terminal is not needed!!!!  ::)

Looks like we have Hi-res pics available not sure about the rest of you I just want the updated runways so when flying online it's more realistic not fun when I cannot accept what they are operating for landing and takeoff not to mention runway numbers.

Those are not the kind of photos we can use, I've already said we need straight from the top pictures at 1/m pixel resolution or better.

In any case, even if the construction stopped today, and the needed updated pictures of 2010 were available today (those posted by JFKpilot are from 2009), we couldn't start it anyway, since the KORD team is busy finishing KDFW, which has been already postponed twice so, no way we'll stop it again.

To my knowledge the cargo area has already been moved since they were in the way of runway 10C/28C. :)

As for the cargo section 80% will remain as is, the others will be moved south and west.....There is a shot of the new 9R-9C at the botom of the shot is where Fed Ex is moving.....

I was at ORD last week and noticed having shortened 32L has helped traffic flow a little. They were landing 28, 32R, 27R and departing 22L, 32L, and 27L. It is definitely bizarre but is improving as they make updates.

I realize you guys are busy, so this would fall way down the priority list, but just FYI: there's fresh imagery available on Google Earth. Nice resolution and colors, and only a month old, so it reflects all the progress that's been made at the airport in recent years.
