We are pleased to announce the release of the promised O'Hare update, featuring the new runways 9L/27R.
The update is a FREE download for all customers, and can be obtained by simply download the current full installer, there's no patch available, since most of the files were changed anyway, and the installer will prompt you to remove the current version first.
Other minor enhancements includes cross-wind runway AFCAD, some objects fixes, and better winter textures.

Very cool thanks Umberto I'm my way to download now.
-
Thank you for this update :)
All went very well with uninstall and install process, and thank you for fixing that "issue" with writing to dll.xml and exe.xml, that i was so concerned about. ;)
I haven't flown to and from KORD yet, but so far, it's looks very promising.

So far so good on my end. Did a quick take off and landing and it all seems to look and work just fine. ;)

Anybody know if AES support still works with ORD v2? Will definitely be installing this, but may wait for an AES update if it doesn't work quite yet.

We haven't changed any jetway/parking position so, it will probably work. In any case, you'll be able to use it with GSX for free, in a few weeks...with GSX we'll do another update to O'Hare, adding all the docking systems.

No arguments with using GSX, in fact I look forward to it. GSX looks to be pretty nice. I just need something for the interim. Anyway, thanks for the reply.

Umberto, thanks for the update!
-
Not bad! It sounds like this update took a whole lotta work by all concerned! However, I expected this "new update" would have included taxiway November going all the along runway 10/28 from taxiway ZH to the intersection of M7 & SA4. I noticed scenery that previously didn't load until I was almost right next to it, now loads quickly and completely. Thank you all. I'm guessing the November taxiway issue will be fixed with yet a future update to KORD?

Thank you very much :)

Yes, we also increased loading ranges for many objects, the original scenery was released in 2008, so we were very conservative with those setting back then.
Thank you all. I'm guessing the November taxiway issue will be fixed with yet a future update to KORD?
Yes, we'll surely have another update, since the airport is still far from finished. For the next update we might consider giving it a "KDFW/KLAX"-style ground treatment, but in that case it's likely to be payware.
-
Let me start off by saying you have done a wonderful job. I have all but two of your sceneries. Sadly though my frame rates in Chicago have dropped from 10-15 to 3-6.
What can I do? All of the other airports I get flyable frame rates.
Thanks in advance.

AMAZING work on the update!! The only question I have is why wasn't the new air traffic control tower that opened up with the opening of 9L/27R included in the update? It's still the way it was in the original scenery: under construction.
Best Regards,
Robert

I'm guessing Probably when they do other update or the version with the "KDFW/KLAX"-style ground treatment like Umberto mentioned above.

just bought kord with the new patch vol 2.0 and it s great, dont forget I also have, JFK DFW KFLL and they are all fantastic kkeep up the good work

Umberto, any chance in the next update that the lights on the light poles at the terminals can be made to be turned on like they are in the DFW scenery? I just installed the 2.0 version and still have issues with the lights in the same manner like KFLL has where some of the lights on the poles dont all turn on as you get near them, or in some cases dont turn on at all. Last night I flew there and when I parked at the gate the lights came on at the terminal behind where I parked and 2 terminals over, but the where I parked only one of the lights came on and the rest of the poles never switched on.

The next update will probably be a total remade so, everything can be improved. In any case, lights weren't changed for the previous version, the update dealt mainly with new runways and taxiways.
-
Are you guys going to finish the north control tower or will that be included in the payware update?

Not sure yet, let's finish GSX, and Zurich updated first and start the new year with a bit less of work ahead.

The one thing I am confused about is, especially now since the KORD update was just the freeware one, will all of the to-be updated airports have updates like this? Freeware and then total redo (payware)? I am indifferent either way, just curious.
Thanks

We'll decide on a case-by-case basis, depending how the original scenery could be improved and how much workload would require, it's not really something that can be made as a standard policy towards updates.
-
Ah ok that sounds good. Will there be any order (or schedule) to those releases or will they just come as ready?
-
Don't forget the taxiway updates. Taxiway N goes all the way parallel to rwy 28
-
Does the O'Hare update provide full DirectX 10 compatibility? The FSDreamTeam version that I purchased some time ago (which may have been the updated version) did not render taxiway centerline lights correctly under DirectX 10, and I uninstalled it. Now that shaders fixes have been provided by Steve Parsons, there is little reason not to take advantage of running FSX with DirectX 10 enabled, and there is less reason for FSDreamTeam not to provide full DirectX 10 compatibility, since more FSX users are now running with DirectX 10 enabled. In fact, even if the O'Hare update did nothing to the centerline lights, does anyone know whether Steve Parsons' shaders fixes, alone, corrected the problem?

I thought the whole point of using the DX10 fixer, is to use sceneries that don't offer full DX10 compatibility "out of the box", like KORD. KDFW, KLAX, CYVR and JFK V2, which are the sceneries that we advertise DX10 compatibility, don't require the fixer, they already ran in DX10 before it was released.
In fact, the availability of the fixer could mean that it's probably less urgent to upgrade older sceneries, since they might be more usable now.
However, this doesn't mean in any way that we would not upgrade O'Hare and other non-DX10 compliant sceneries, this will surely come, but probably together with upgrades needed due to large airport changes.
-
is the KORD redo on the list for after Houston is released or is it on the back burner for the time being?
-

As explained, many times already on the forum, every scenery will be eventually remade, but the first one will probably KLAS, because there's a new terminal, on top of the airport need a DX10 upgrade.
-
I would hope that KORD is near the top of the priority list, seeing as a large number of changes to taxiway designations and runway configuration are underway and have been reflected in charts for some time.
-
installer will prompt you to remove the current version first.
Umberto
I didn't see any prompt. Now I have two of KORD in Control Panel>Program and Features. One is dated today and the other March 2012.

I didn't see any prompt. Now I have two of KORD in Control Panel>Program and Features. One is dated today and the other March 2012.
I can only repeat and confirm that you would see a prompt to Uninstall O'Hare 1.X, if you try to install O'Hare 2.x on top of it, and if you don't do it, O'Hare 2.x won't install, there's no question about it.
HOWEVER, if you removed files from O'Hare 1.x manually, the 2.x installer can't obviously detect the 1.x installation, so it won't prompt you to uninstall it first, and you would have two O'Hare entries in the Control Panel. There's a reason why you should always use the proper uninstaller, and don't remove files manually.
Now, depending what you removed manually, this might be a problem or not, the safest solution to clean up all the mess would be (if you still have an O'Hare 1.x installer at hand) doing the following:
- Uninstall O'Hare 2.x
- Uninstall O'Hare 1.x (or the other copy, if you don't see a version name)
- Reinstall O'Hare 1.x
- Uninstall O'Hare 1.x
- Reinstall O'Hare 2.x, using the *current* installer
This is the safest way to clean up any problem eventually caused by manually removing files.
-
Don't assume what I might have done or what I might have seen. I did not change or delete any files in 1.x and I will repeat that the prompt to uninstall 1.x did not appear anywhere in the installer.
-
Don't assume what I might have done or what I might have seen. I did not change or delete any files in 1.x and I will repeat that the prompt to uninstall 1.x did not appear anywhere in the installer.
I haven't "assumed" anything, but based my reply on your report that you haven't been prompted to uninstall 1.x so, if I made an assumption, is that your report of not having being prompted to uninstall 1.x is accurate.
Since it's absolutely and totally certain the 2.x installer WILL prompt you to Uninstall 1.x first, otherwise it won't proceed, and you now have 2 O'Hare entries in the Control Panel, the only possible explanation left, is that files from the 1.x has been removed, because you haven't been prompted to remove the 1.x and you subsequently installed 2.x over it.
The 2.x installer will not check *every* single file from 1.x to decide if it's there or not. It will just check for the APPR_KORD.BGL file, to be present into the fsdreamteam\OhareX\scenery folder. If it's not there, it assumes you Uninstalled 1.x. So, it would be enough that you removed, moved or unintentionally lost that file, for the installer to assume you removed 1.x correctly. The installer correctly use that file for checking, because it's a file that was included in 1.x ONLY, but it's not supposed to be in 2.x, which means it's enough to identify an 1.x installation from a 2.x one.
Now, whether YOU removed (or MOVED) intentionally that file from 1.x, or you lost it for some reason, it's not really relevant, and won't change the fact that, the 2.x install WILL prompt you to remove 1.x, under NORMAL conditions and, under NORMAL condition, you won't have two entries for O'Hare, because the 2.x installer won't go ahead if you don't uninstall 1.x first.
You will of course have proof of this, if you just follow my previous instructions, and it will be obvious to you that, once you perform the "Reinstall O'Hare 2.x" step, after having installed 1.x, you WILL be prompted to remove it.

Hey there everyone,
Any word on when an update will be done to show the actual & new runways 10L, 10C, 10R?
Sure would be nice to have a realistic, up-to-date KORD.
Thanks,

Hi Umberto,
As well, as with Micheal Cubine's post, I didn't see a prompt to uninstall 1.x when I installed 2.x. I now have two KORD's in my control panel. Looks as though 2.x is showing up in FSX as there's a 9L/27R. Also, the pauses are gone that I was experiencing with 1.x. And, I'm getting much better performance now at KORD. I read your instructions about installing and uninstalling 1.x and 2.x. I just assume leave things as they are as long as having 1.x installed doesn't affect 2.x in an adverse way. Please advise.
Thank you very much for your continued hard work in improving your products. It's much appreciated by everyone.
cheers,
Brian

When will that new over haul ORD begin ?
It has already begun. We don't have any release date, sorry. It's a total remake from scratch, though, not an update.

Thank you. I support your efforts to build a new version of KORD.

Just out of curiosity, Is the new KORD going to be 64 bit for the new P3d that is in the works? Many scenery mfgs already have the new SDK for Lockheed Martin from what I have been reading. However no tentative date for release has been issued.

There's no such thing as a "64 bit scenery".
But, don't you think that, according to our proven track record of supporting each and every new version of P3D since 1.0, it would be odd that, a new major version came, and we wouldn't support it ?
Many scenery mfgs already have the new SDK for Lockheed Martin from what I have been reading. However no tentative date for release has been issued.
If a scenery developer said in public they have such thing, it would in breach of the NDA agreement they must have with LM, in order to have access to it.

Hi,
The new version of Chicago your doing will this be just for P3Dv4 only? Or do you propose to do a version for FSX?
Thanks
Jason
-
The new version of Chicago your doing will this be just for P3Dv4 only? Or do you propose to do a version for FSX?
Yes, as we announced a while back ago, our last scenery for FSX will be KSDF, but after that one, we are going to use new native P3DV4 methods that requires a completely different approach, starting from the initial design, which would allow way better visual quality with no effect on performances, which is just not possible with FSX.
-
So FSX users will just have to use the previous version? Can I ask why you are not going to do anything for P3Dv3? I appreciate all the different technologies within P3Dv4.
Thanks
Jason
-

I afraid that's it.
Can I ask why you are not going to do anything for P3Dv3? I appreciate all the different technologies within P3Dv4.
- P3DV3 is still 32 bit, so it still has almost the same issues as FSX and, it's safe to assume that, if an user already have P3D V3, it will surely switch to V4.
- P3DV3 doesn't have some of these new features that might dramatically improve both quality and ease of development that V4 has.

Hi.
When can We expect new version KORD scenery for P3D platform? New I mean, new ground sign, layers taxiways and runways
Best regards
Andy.
-
New I mean, new ground sign, layers taxiways and runways
There will be no such thing. We are not planning for a minor update just to update signs, taxiways and runways.
We are redoing the scenery from scratch, because it's really showing its age now (it was released in 2008), and it would be wrong trying to patch it again, since we already did such update in 2011, when they added runway 9L/27R, which is the current version.
This means, it will take just like any other new scenery we made in the last years, from 18 to 24 months. Some work as already started on it, but I don't anticipate to be ready this year.
-
Note to self - Read the forum before you buy... Just downloaded and purchased the P3D version (I run v4) and went to fly out of KORD and 27L is showing as 27.....
-
Note to self - Read the forum before you buy...
Downloading and installing the Trial version BEFORE purchasing it, which is what you are supposed to do with a product that is advertised as being sold as a Try-before-buy method, is probably easier and better than searching the forum.
Also, because you might even decide that, even if it's outdated, the scenery looks better than the default one, and is at least a bit more updated (it includes 9L/27R the default lacks).
