Title: My KLAX shots. Love the scenery!!! (FS9)
Post by: newmanix on October 27, 2011, 08:40:43 am
A lot of people can't seem to get KLAX working in FS9 including a close friend. Something about missing buildings?? So here are 2 shots before bed showing just how damn good this scenery looks in FS9. One in night textures, and one in day textures.

Now compare that to Blueprint! Be patient FS9 people! Umberto and team will get it working for you soon!  ;D

How is the fps impact in comparison to the Cloud9 version?

Well my last demo flight was with CS757. The taxi and climbout was smooth as silk, but the approach wasn't so great. But I did install high res ground textures around the airport. So after I uninstall the textures I will check it out again. The smooth departure was before the installed textures.

Here is another beautiful shot. Or advertisement for HSBC!!!  :D

Also, it should be noted that this airport has dynamic shine!!! Note the shine on those windows. The shine goes away when you are in an area not visable to the sun in real time. What a treat!!

Say what you will about FS9, she is more beautiful than ever!  :o

Ok let's try a normal JPEG upload so I don't piss off Umberto...

EDIT: Auggghhhh!!! It looses quality like this!!! But okay, i'll play by the rules...

Those who live in L.A. know about the heavy fog we had last week... ::)

Thank you Skimmer!!!

This one was an attempt to look like a model airport. I am still learning how to do this properly. This is the first time I ever tried this so...

Wonder who would be the first to noticed it...yes, all metal and most of the glass surfaces have specular highlights, including smaller objects like light pylons, the metal fences around the airport, metal baggage carts, and many other. We tried to make it as similar as possible to the FSX version.

I cannot wait until I am home from school so I can buy this beauty and fly in and out of it.

I admit, I was very plesently surprised! Looks like if we continue to get FS9 sceneries, we are getting enhanced features too! ;)

Umberto, are you at all pleased with FS9 sales so far??

They are decent, but way less than the FSX version. I'd say that, assuming it will continue this way, FSX represents right now about 80% of the market, the 737NGX was probably what gave it the biggest blow, and of course the new hardware that keeps coming out.

Is still too early to comment on the future, or if we could afford to support a sim with only 20% of the market share (today, but what will happen in 2012, when MS Flight will hopefully be released and Prepar3D maybe gained some traction ?), and in any case it's not really useful to commit on a decision for the *next* scenery today, considering that even KLAX itself was given a definite green light for FS9 only AFTER we started working on its conversion.

Well let's hope sales will continue to increase. It doesn't have AES yet ;)

Umberto, add me into FSX percentage, I just haven't purchased my copy yet because of other things going on right now.. Will be deffantly getting my version of KLAX for FSX here soon as possible though... So I'm going to be in that percentage for the FSX users.. I know some of you all who still are using FS9 love your FS9 but I love FSX even more & I don't think I could ever go back to FS9 after flying FSX.. Everything is so much more crispier & clearer & water looks fantastic with the waves.. I'm still yet too see birds.. I thought there was suppose to be birds in FSX.. I haven't seen any birds yet. Course I don't really want to see them on the end of the runway but i haven't seen them sitting on the jetbridge either..

Last thing I want is to have to try & do a Miracle landing on the Hudson like The US Airways pilot did but would be nice to see a bird on the jetway seeing when FSX came out they said there would be birds on it..

Thanks for the feedback! Yes, the airport looks stunning for an FS9 scenery, simply amazing!

No problem! Now go buy it!!!! :D I'll post some more when I get time!

TRUST me buddy, I want to so badly, but the only think holding me back is that I have been hearing many people complaining about bad fps. Plus, I am running FS9 on my laptop, and they aren't the best specs either! I seriously don't know what to do!!! Gaaaaahhh!

Install the Trial and check for yourself.

Stunning shots guys! I downloaded the demo and also had a frame rate hit but hopefully with the new GPU on its way, things will improve! Ill be buying it for FS9 only. Which that brings up a question, in that 80% of people who bought it for FSX, how many of them got it for both sims? Maybe a lot of that 80% use the scenery for both FSX and FS9? I sure hope we continue to see FS9 scenerys made by FSDT! Thanks a trillion FSDT and awesome shots guys!

We can't obviously know, the only clear data we see, BOTH from sales AND from downloads of the Trial version, is that FS9 is about 20% of the market now, while it used to be about 40% for the past years.

It's very likely the NGX737 release gave a strong blow to FS9 and, coupled with the fact that people WILL update hardware, sooner or later (nobody use the same system for more than 5 years), seems to be reasonable.

Can someone comment which of the surrounding office buildings are included in KLAX?  I know FSDT stops at airport boundaries but it looks like some are included along World Way and Century Blvd (which definitely adds to the feel of LAX in real life, in my opinion) though less than Cloud9.  Just curious.  Thanks.

The other 20% of FS9 users will purchase KLAX after it is AES'd.  ;) I think there was just a few like me who made the exception to 1. show support for the scenery right away and 2. just HAD to have it right away. Sales will increase. Also keep in mind a heavy shopping season is ahead.

Another statistic a bit "in the clouds"...we haven't been able to see a measurable sales "surge" of a scenery that never had AES for years and was heavily requested (Cloud9 EHAM, for example), that would really make any difference along the lifetime of a product.

Yes, there's some kind of a "mini surge" in the first month after AES support is released, but after a while sales goes back exactly to the same levels as they were before AES, I don't think having AES impacted for more than 10% of overall sales for the whole lifetime of a product, Cloud9 KLAX never had AES.

The only case were having AES or not might do a difference (forget doubling the FS9 marketshare against FSX), is if there are two competing sceneries of the same airport, with the same quality, one with AES and the other without, AES might shift the balance in that case. But if a scenery is visibly better than another one for the same airport, people will always choose the better looking/performing one in any case.

So, the actual 20% might become (maybe) a 22% with AES...

With all due respect, if AES impacted sales that little, you would not be spending as much time and resources developing your own type of AES product... Which is why I believe your product will be free. It's the sales of the actual sceneries that it will help impact as well as the fact that you will no longer have to wait for Oliver to get around to AES'ing a completed scenery which delays sales when he is slow. You MUST admit, the AES type of software has a huge influence on sales of sceneries. More than you are admiting here.
