Title: Missing airport buildings
Post by: Jolun on July 26, 2011, 09:41:54 am
Hi,

For all my Fsdt airports there are now airport buildings. I have the Addon manager menu but not the Couatl menu (there is a Couatl folder in the FSdreamtem folder). Should I un-install all my Fsdt addon's or it is it enough to un-install one and then reinstall?

Edit: I have un-installed all Fsdt scenaries and installed KFDW (re-booted win anfter uninstallation and after insatallation) but I'm still mssing airport buildings and the Couatl menu.

/Jonas

If only Couatl is missing, than it's 100% sure you haven't correctly set the antivirus, please follow this to the letter, don't skip any step.

- Uninstall the scenery. Reply YES when asked if you want to remove the Addon Manager and the Couatl Engine. Reply YES to both questions.

- TURN OFF your antivirus. Don't just exit from its interface, but turn off the real time protection. Actual wording changes between products, however, it's the option to scan every file that gets open in real time, without user intervention.

- Reinstall the scenery with the Antivirus TURNED OFF. Don't launch FSX yet.

- Configure the antivirus to exclude the following files from scanning:

YourFSXFolder\bglmanx.dll
YourFSXFolder\fsdreamteam\Couatl\couatl.exe

YourFSXFolder it's usually C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X, if you installed it in the default folder.

- Now you can turn the antivirus back on, and launch FSX.

- Check you are seeing BOTH the "Addon Manager" menu AND the "Couatl powered products" menu under the "Addons" menu.

Hi

I followed tour instruction. But I can't see the Couatl menu. The coutl.exe file is there as well as the bdlmanx.dll. I use Norton 360. I used the "fast Controll butoms" to switch it off. The Couatl.exe starts and run when I'm running FSX.

The Couatl.exe starts and run when I'm running FSX.

Do you mean you opened the task manager, and saw the couatl.exe process running ? Did it keep running, or it closed it down ? Is still running when you are inside FSX and don't see its menu ?

Check the following folder:

%APPDATA%\Virtuali

and see if you have a Couatl.err file inside. If you have, post its content here.

Yes it is running when I run the FSX. I could see it in the task manager. What does %APPDATA% mean? is it my path to FSX?

No there was no Couatl.err inside only a file keyMapping file

Just type that in the blank area of the Windows Start button, and press ENTER, it will open a folder.

That's not the very latest version. Can you try reinstalling the scenery again, so it will get the current one online ?

Ok but i downloaded the scenary (KDFW) yesterday? Where do I get the latest Couatl?

I downloaded KJFK but it's the same problem no Couatl menu, no buildings. Now the log file is empty and no Couatl.err file

Just reinstall KDFW, will get the current version.

Note that, it's slightly older than yours, but it should work, we put it an older version that used to work, while we fix the problem with the last versions.

This can't be

- Uninstall the scenery. Reply YES when asked if you want to remove the Addon Manager and the Couatl Engine. Reply YES to both questions.

- Reinstall the scenery, check you get the trust question, reply YES to all questions.

- Don't worry if you don't have the menu at the first launch, exit from FSX, wait a bit to be sure it closes cleanly, the launch it again.

Are you absolutely sure that you followed exactly those steps ? Your Couatl build number should be 2141 now.

Well, yes i'm sure I have followed your instructions.  This is the content of the log file:

When I start the FSX I don't get any questions regarding the newly installed secnery? On the other hand I'm quit sure that I have "told" FSX to trust your s/w, but could that be some problem with that?

Where do I change trusted modules?

That's not the current version. However, it's an older version that should work anyway, because it was dated in June, and was online for the past two months.

This doesn't matter, because the installer will always get the version that is online when it's run.

You should have seen a downloading bar towards the end of the installation. Do it again, and be sure to notice this.

When I start the installation I get one question regarding if I woud accept to intstall this s/w from company. This question do I interpret as "trusted question", ref above.

When I start FSX I don't get any teusted questions. Think I have told FSX that your s/w is to be trusted.

Accepting all the software from a company it's just one of the 3 options possible within the same Windows trusting question (the one with the Yellow shield and the Windows-styled dialog), then there will be the FSX trusting question, asking if you want to run the module just for one session, or for all subsequent sessions too.

If you trusted all our signed modules, it's normal this would happen, and it's not a problem.

I'll ask it again, have you got the latest version now ?

No couatl menu

Do you have the Couatl.exe process running in the Task Manager ? If you have it even after FSX has closed down, it's a problem, and will not work.

Try to terminate it manually, and restart FSX.

Note if Couatl.exe is loading together with FSX, and check if the menu it's there, and check if it disappear automatically from the Task manager when you close FSX.

I'm sorry, but I really don't know what so say now, this means it's working absolutely fine.

Looking at your log, however, there's something strange, it seems it runs, but it doesn't do anything.

Can you please enable the log again, run FSX, go to an FSDT scenery, wait for the scenery to load (even if main buildings are missing), then exit from FSX and post the log ?

I never seen this message. Can you please be more precise, maybe doing a screenshot of it ?

If it's happening at installation, it's possible it's just because you ran the installer too quickly after FSX closed down, without allowing for Couatl to quit too, so the installer can't write anything because it finds all the files locked from writing since the process is still running.

The log contains the information on my start up. Start FSX and then select KDFW and after that the scensry have been loaded I go to the log file. Yes it is very empty.

You mean it's really empty, or it's similar to the one you posted before ? Can I have a look at it ?

That's the normal security alert that Windows will give if you open ANY installer! It's absolutely normal, it's just asking if you want to run that installer, signed by that company.

It's always looked like that, and every installer of any software you run in Vista or Windows 7 will show the same warning, slightly different if the software is not signed.

Going back to this question. Is this trusted question going to pop up after the security alert pop up window (can't remember how it is for other s/W)? I have the UAC activated. Is it therefore I don't get this trusted questions?

The trust question you posted the screenshot, is to ask permission to run the INSTALLER (Windows still doesn't know anything about what it contains) only.

THEN, after you completed the installation, you should get other two trusting questions, one to ask permission to run the Addon Manager, another to aks permission to run the Couatl engine.

In any case, you said Couatl IS runnig, it's pointless discussing about trust issues, because if it wasn't trusted, it wouldn't have launched at all, not running without doing anything, like it seems to do now. And, the Addon Manager is running too, because the Coautl log shows it has connected to it.

So, your issue doesn't have anything to do with trust problems or UAC or so, it's just strange Couatl is running  and doing nothing...

You need to wait a bit, because we have a special diagnostic version that I can send you. I'll send you a Private Message when it's ready.

It works now!  ::) I uninstalled my Fsdt scenaries and KSFO. Then I re-started my computer & installed KDFW. Thereaffter I re-started the computer. I started FSX at some other airport than Fsdt. The Couatl menu came up and it worked. After that I installed the rest of my Fsdt airports and KSFO (re booted computer). There where a lot of warning popups the first time I started FSX but after installing an new version of addon manager and a re-boot it finaly worked.

Yes, because by reinstalling (it could be any scenery) you got the updated Addon Manager/Couatl we have online now, which fixed the issue that was found when installing KSFO, which caused exactly that: Couatl running, but not doing anything.
