Title: $5 sale over at Iris everyday until Dec 25th
Post by: cmpbllsjc on December 09, 2010, 12:17:13 pm
Hi guys,

Just saw this over on the PMDG forum and though I would pass it on for those that dont frequent that forum.

Iris is having a $5 sale on the F-14 which was only for 24hrs and maybe over already, alhough I just bought it and got it for the sale price.

Right after that the next plane went on sale for $5 which is the Christen Eagle and will be $5 for the next 24hrs. After that another plane will be $5 until the promo ends on the 25th.

Here's a quote from their front page.

"In the leadup to christmas, we have great pleasure in providing ALL our products at a MASSIVE 50% off their normal standard pricing!! Not only that, JUST ONE product will be chosen to be part of our daily FIVE DOLLAR FRENZY!!

Our FIVE DOLLAR FRENZY promotion will commence on 09:00 GMT on the 8th of December and last until 09:00 GMT on December 25th 2010. Every 24 hours one product will be picked at random from our product range to be priced at just FIVE DOLLARS! So be sure to grab yourselves some fantastic stocking stuffers before santa grabs them all!!!!"

Hopefully Umberto wont mind me mentioning this here since its another company, but since they deal in planes and not scenery hopefully he wont mind.

Looks like some good deals on a/c that I typically woudn't purchase, but for $5 its not a bad deal. Off to buy the Christen Eagle now and hopefully the A-10 pops up in the next few days as the $5 plane.

Let me know how it is.

I got the F-14 last night and flew it for about an hour but am going to uninstall it and place it in the recycle bin since I ended up not liking it very much and the canopy is way to dark. The F-14 felt a little like freeware quality to me.

Today I got the Christen Eagle, but have not installed it yet. I think it will be ok since the Long Island version even with the FSX tweaks was not bad.

The A-10 I will wait for it to be $5 before I buy it, but if for some reason before the last sale ends its not $5 then I will get it for the 50% off price, but I have a feeling it will be $5 at some point since they dont have all that many planes to keep switching the sale to everyday.

Well I tell ya cmpbllsjc, I like the sale price and the plane and the cannon effects but thats all I'm gonna say on this site cause after all this is FSDT. In a few days I will post a pic or 2 with A-10s at HNL.  ;D ;D

Saw that, the Tigershark is also on sale again.  That tells me that only certain planes are getting the $5 Frenzy treatment, looks like I may need to settle for 50% on a couple of them.

Well, fortunately your assumption is wrong. For those of us who want the A-10 or other planes for $5 we will be able to get them, as posted by Iris's David Bryce as per this post  http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?t=46821 :

"For strictly 12 hours only, from 9am GMT to 9pm GMT Monday the 13th of December 2010, EVERYTHING, that's absolutely everything on the IRIS Storefront is just $5.00 each!

This offer MAY not be repeated, so grab what you can when the clock turns 9am GMT!"

If you live in CST, this offer will be from about 3am til 3pm.

I'll let you know how my $5 A-10 works out for me :-)

Went in this morning and found the A-10 was $5 and immediately clicked add to cart.  When I found everything at $5, I was like a four year old in a candy store.

You and Me, Mr. Hamilton - just kids at heart. ;)

However .... If you guys had waited a little longer for your earlier purchases, like I did, you would have got them all for $5 AUS. :D ;D

PS: Mr. "cmpbllsjc" - Thanks for advertising this Sale; I don't think I would have spent the time looking at PM's or others forums for the announcement(s); just happened to see it posted here. :)

Isn't that what I said in my post above yours?  ;)

We did get them for $5 prior to today. The sale is every day from now until Christmas, its just that today everything is $5, rather than only one product being $5 per day and then another product the next day, continuing until Christmas.

No problem James. I was actually tipped off to it from a post in the PMDG forums the other day so I thought I would spread the word for those interested in pickup up some new toys for a cheap price. Frankly a  lot of those products are probably ones I wouldn't normally buy since I prefer to fly airliners in the sim, but for $5 what the heck right. Gives you a little variety when you dont want to hop in a tube for a few hours.

Regards

No, you didn't say anything about being a kid in a candy store.   ;D
I guess David Brice has been raking in some serious cash, everything is still $5.

LOL, yeah. He said that the sale was so good that he reached his max sales limit with the credit card company yesterday. A lot of people tried to buy but couldn't get their products, so he said he would extend the sale.

On a positive note, he also said that sales from this promotion are so good that he might be convinced to change his pricing structure in the future. I'm guessing that he may lower prices and go for more volume, rather than ask a lot of money per unit and not sell very much.

I still have yet to install the A-10 that I was so anxious to get for $5, but frankly I never would have paid $50 for it, unless of course it was something I had to have, but I think $50 for some of their planes is a little steep.

I'm sure the same thing happened to captainsim with there 9.99 sale, I always believe that if you price your stuff right then more people will come but when you start asking for something around half of $100 us dollars it doesn't help and your not going to get more people like that I'm not saying to make it super cheap but make it reasonable. glade the sale went well for them.  ;D

While your concept sounds well, it doesn't always work. Simmers have this perception that lower price means lower quality, thus they are inclined to turn away from what may be a better product than they have been purchasing in the past. It's not like I ever had a customer tell me my prices were TOO LOW! Oh wait, yes I did...

There's no Ctrl-E for a quick flight in the A-10. There's a quick start toggle switch, then you can hit Ctrl-E. But that's only if you are lazy, like me.  :D

Simmers have this perception that lower price means lower quality... but I think $50 for some of their planes is a little steep.

We also have the perception that a higher price means the developer values his efforts to be worth more than they actually are, and this sale basically proves that point.  He walked away with a good chunk of change from my pocket that he never would've seen otherwise.  When you ask for that kind of money, you need to be able to bring it in the form of high quality models with very in depth systems like those from PMDG.

Just for clarification purposes, the second half of the quote was made by someone else and are not my words.

My abridged thoughts are that developers should get what they deserve for their products. But some developers value their products at a whole different level than what similar work may entail. That I speak from first hand experience. Running some source material through a compiler and calling it great doesn't make it so. But that's a something saved for discussion elsewhere... ;)
