Title: GSX Pro No Sound **UPDATE**
Post by: Andy764 on November 16, 2025, 06:00:29 pm
Hi,
Recently all sounds from GSX have stopped working (9 times out of 10.)   I have checked the settings are outputting to correct device and al shows as ok.
I've restarted Couatl engine and still nothing.
All other sounds from MSFS 2020 and Prosim work as they should be.
I've attached both the ini file and a ERR file from the Virtuali folder.

Thanks
Andy

I am having the same problem, and I have tried everything to get the sound working. I am using MSFS2024 SU beta 4, I have uninstalled GSX several times and still cannot get the sound to work. The notification badges show up like 'boarding requested' but there is no voice or external sounds like baggage loading it's like the sounds are muted. All other sounds that are used in MSFS2024 are fine.

There are no issues whatsoever with GSX sound, and of course we are all been using SU4 beta since it came out. Check all the following:

- the correct audio device is selected in GSX

- windows is not automatically muting the sound when an app is out of focus, it's an option that will cause this.

-the correct audio device is selected in GSX: The same audio device has been the default as long as I have owned GSX. Just as a test when I select a different audio device such as a headset, the whole app resets and starts to load all over again like it's just starting up for the first time. When it is finished loading there still is no sound

- windows is not automatically muting the sound when an app is out of focus, it's an option that will cause this:  all the apps I have running in MSFS2024 have sound except GSX, that includes SayIntensions, BeyondATC, and Fenix and any other addon app I use.

Other than confirming there are no problems with GSX audio, I only listed the two most common cases, that doesn't mean you can't have other non-GSX related issues that should be solved in other ways so, let's add the less common ones:

- an issue with the audio drivers. GSX uses OpenAL audio, so it's required the audio drivers supports it. Sometimes it's best to use the default audio drivers that are included in Windows, sometimes it's best to use the custom drivers (mainboard, audio card) supplied by the hardware suppliers, there's no rule, you can only try.

- if you have removable devices (wireless headsets), you must selected again them in GSX after they are activate: they are not picked up automatically.

- if you have devices that go into low-power mode, they might disappear from GSX. We have some defensive code to prevent those device to sleep, but it might not always work with all of them because, again, it depends on their drivers.

- a conflict with some other audio-related apps like messengers, chats, etc.

All these cases has been discussed and solved in the past following users reports, so I'm not making them up, they are just the less common ones.

Thanks for the info I'll take a look at all the possibilities you posted and see if something might be the cause. Just strange that it just started to happen after all this time using GSX.

For my case.  It works occasionally..  Like maybe once or twice in every 10 flights/usage.
I'm a creature of habit so the boot up routine is always the same.
MSFS - Wait for it to load fully, then Prosim modules followed lastly by CFY TQ control panel.

GSX is working all of the actions happen even the "subtitles" in the screen corner.  Just no audio.  (nothing from GSX anyways, ground calls, ambient vehicles, pax boarding etc)

I've tried with the generic windows drivers as well as the updated version from ASUS.
Theres nothing on this PC other than FS stuff, no messengers, Whatsapps ir email programs.  I don't have a microphone so I ruled any conflict between input and output out.

Thank you for any further pointers you can give.

A GSX log might be useful.

Umberto, ok did a lot of messing around with the sound. Still dos not work with the external speakers, however if I change all three settings to my headset which is a Logitech pro X wired headset the sound works. So I'm not sure where to look, you mentioned something about a GSX log to Andy, where can I find that?

Make sure in the GSX settings page (Under troubleshooting) that the Log files option is ticked.
The log file should then be located in Appdata\Roaming\Virtuali folder.

Mine actually worked last night so when it fails next time I'll attach a log file.

Thanks for the info, can I ask how did you get it to work?

I also do not have sound at all. That happens only with GSX Pro MSFS 2020. In my case no options appear in the GSX settings page to select the audio output.

How can that be not caused by GSX ???

Of course it's not "caused" by GSX. If your audio device is correct in GSX, and you still have no sound it's either:

- Your audio device doesn't support OpenAL, it's usually a driver issue, sometimes the drivers supplied with the card/mainboard are better than the Windows ones, in other cases the default provided with Windows are better.

- If your audio device is wireless, try to see if you have settings to preventing going to sleep mode.

- Another possible issue is windows lowering down the volume for out of focus app automatically, but there's a setting in Windows to prevent doing this.

Thing is for me I have never changed my audio settings as long as I have owned GSX which is since I have owned MFS2020. I have moved over to MSFS2024 and even then didn't have any issues, it has always been RealTek(R) Audio, Since I can't figure out what has changed on my end I am now using my monitor speakers for GSX.

I covered this in the last part of my reply:

A GSX log might be useful.

As mentioned my lack of GSX sound is intermittent.  Today it did not work.  Log file attached in case this can shed any light.

Thanks

Exactly what you said for some reason Windows is turning my speakers off for GSX, I downloaded a program called EarTrumpet which gives you the ability to raise or lower the volume of all apps that are running. The program can be found in the Microsoft Store, Umberto, thanks again for all of your help, I now have sound coming back out of my speakers for GSX!

For the benefit of Others..  I may have found the problem, although I do not know why  this has become a problem.
As previously and helpfully suggested I downloaded that Ear Trumpet software and checked the levels of running Apps.  In my case there was NO Couatl entry in Ear Trumpet so naturally no sound from GSX, I restarted Couatl and the icon appeared and I had sounds.

It appears that in my case when starting Prosim Audio, it stomps on and replaces the Coautl sounds module.  As soon as I start Prosim Audio I watch the Couatl icon disappear from the Ear Trumpet app and all my GSX sound go away..  Generally Prosim and its modules are always started after FS2020 has fully loaded. The reason for it being intermittent is probably because I have started Prosim prior to loading the flight without realising it and on those few occasions it has worked correctly.

I do not know why this happens/ has started happening but now I know I can get round it.  If anyone has any input before I ask the question of Prosim please do comment.

I am running MSFS2024 not sure if that has anything to do with it but I have Ear Trumpet running all the time. Once I loaded the simulator and started a flight, I went to the taskbar clicked on Ear Trumpet expanded it and noticed that the slider for GSX was all the way to the left I moved it to the right and had full sound. Is prosim a stand alone app for MSFS2020? It should show up in Ear Trumpet if you expand it

Prosim is an entirely seperate Avionics module that works with MSFS in my case over the network.  The Audio Module shows separately in Ear Trumpet.
What I was saying was:

When MSFS starts GSX/Coautl starts with it (Thats correct) If I open up EarTrumpet it shows the Couatl icon correctly and working.
If I start the Prosim Audio Module after the flight has loaded then it stomps on the GSX/coautl audio module and that disappears from ear trumpet (GSX still works but without sound)

Prosim has to be started after MSFS so that it can see it on startup.  The work around is to Open Prosim and its modules after MSFS has loaded but prior to clicking "Fly Now"   Failing that right clicking on Coautl and restarting it also works.  :D
