Title: updating issues
Post by: mazelda on August 19, 2022, 01:23:50 pm
Hi,
Not really sure what's going on but i'm having issues with updating my software.
This only came to light today as i've just purchased gsx pro for msfs and it does not show up in the sim.
When i select the option fsdt installer it shows all my products for both msfs and p3d and next to some of those products it has the option to update. i select these and they all look like they are updating  ie % bar goes up, but after it has completed it still shows the update lit up as if it's saying i have an update available I have also tried running the other program fsdt live update which basically does the same thing but without the new look installer page. I know there have been issues with servers for gsx pro which for me is not showing up in msfs at all I've made sure couatl for gsx  msfs is allowed through my firewall I have also done this for  the installer and live updates.
I have no idea if these products have updated and why gsx pro is not showing up
any ideas would be appreciated

Thanks

Please check the other posts, because there are many that looks similar to yours, with several solution to try.

why gsx pro is not showing up

I had to install FSDT Installer over my existing one (you should've received the download link with your GSX Pro purchase). After installing the the new installer GSX Pro showed up.
The infinite update button problem remains though.

ok starting to go mad here :-\
I deleted everything i could find regarding FSDT and started from scratch, I have even redownloaded the installer again from the website. I then installed ONLY GSX pro  all my other FSDT products remain uninstalled.
but i still get the update box highlighting !!
I ran MSFS and GSX does appear to be working so that's something at least  but the issue is something in either GSX or the installer.
I have no idea what else to try

Any ideas Umberto  logs etc?

I'm pretty sure this is the same problem as what I've posted, why I thought I double posted.

Your video show the updater working perfectly. It just that maybe you assumed the "update" button would turn off if you have the current version. It's not supposed to do that, it really means "Check for Update", but that didn't fit the button, so it's just Update.

Ah, thats cool Umberto I was under the impression that it disappeared after it had updated.
I've got all my fsdt airports into msfs and gsx etc all still working. I will start with the p3d stuff later but leave the p3d version of gsx til last as I was having the issues of couatl not working earlier as well. Hope that will be it for now
looking forward to some of your p3d stuff getting onto the msfs platform

cheers

I want to jump in here as I'm a bit irritated. I've opened a similar topic where you said it is a newly reported issue and that the button should turn off after an update. Now I'm not sure what is correct, I assume the version posted here that it just checks for updates?

Quick question to the "update check" it takes quite a while and the log says it's downloading files.

1. Is this downloading just the check, you could assume that there actually is an update
2. How are we supposed if there actually is an update or if we are running the latest version?

Thanks :)

P.S. No thread hijack intended, just thought the follow up questions would fit in here

I think I have misunderstood your problem, I thought the button was doing something strange, like being stuck on constant updates or something like that. But it's entirely normal it's always clickable.

If it says downloading, than it is downloading, but that should happen after new files are released, not always.

If it doesn't download anything, it means you are fully updated.

Alright no worries, this can happen.

Unfortunately it is always downloading files. I can repeat this endless. Every time I click on update it seems like the same files are being downloaded again.

But what if it is downloading all of the time, the same files it just downloaded a minute ago. Over and over again.

I run the update and when it's finished and when I click on update again (or close the Universal Installer, start it again and click on download) it's downloading the same files it just downloaded.

Every time !

I doubt they get updated within a couple of seconds/minutes, every time. I mean I would get it if it only happens once or twice within a couple of minutes. But everytime ? No matter which day or time ? This can't be intented.

If it doesn't download anything, it means you are fully updated.

I've seen a lot of comments about update confusion. I think the changes to the UI that I've suggested here will make all the difference.

I already replied to you about that, even if those changes would maybe have the installer look "easier", they would make it less reliable.

This, when everything's working as expected.

These days, because of the issues with local cloudlare nodes, the updates through there are not reliable until the situations calms down and all nodes finally catch up. That's why we made an offline installer as an alternative for affected users, and none of the changes you were suggestion would have made any difference, if we cannot trust what we downloaded.

I have the same issue.
Already use the offline installer

I have made a video where you can see, that GSX is updating and updating again and again.
It is boring to see, but you can skip of course to see, that after the first update cycle, it starts again after clicking update.
(second cycle starts at 0:55)

You are continuing to post private videos nobody can see. You should make it UNLISTED, not Private.

I don't see any problems in your video, there's just ONE file, as far I can see, that is being downloaded twice, that's seems to indicate is the *only* file still not updated on your local cloudflare node.

Other than that, it's working correctly.
