installation problem
« on: September 20, 2008, 09:23:22 am »
I have a problem installing Zurich for fsx/sp2 on windows xp. The setup went fine but when I opened fsx and checked the scenery library Zurichx was missing. I installed O'hare and JFK and they showed up in the scenery library. Also, when I manually added Zurich
to the scenery library none of the buildings showed up but they did in O'hare and JFK. I don't know why Zurich is not working?

There could be two reasons:

- You are using an old version of Zurich. Download the current installer in this case.

- The installer for Zurich didn't complete because the scenery.cfg had an error, so scenery files are missing and it wouldn't work even if add it manually.

What should I do if the scenery.cfg had an error?

You don't think to be able to fix it, just post it here, I'll check it out for you.

There's nothing wrong in your scenery.cfg

If it had a problem, the Zurich installer should have detected it.

You aren't using the most current version, probably. Download and install the installer now. Check if Zurich is added to the Scenery Library, and check the Addon Manager runs on the top menu bar.

I installed the latest version of ZurichX but it still does not show up in the scenery library. The addon manger shows up and works just fine.

You mean, the scenery hasn't been added to the Scenery Library, but you haven't seen any error message in the installer ? This is wierd.

Try adding it manually, then.

How do you install it manually?

I haven't said to install it manually, you only need to add it manually to the Scenery Library. This, assuming that our installer haven't said anything about errors in the scenery.cfg.

Just to be sure, because this is an easy mistake to make: the scenery.cfg that you sent me and that looked correct, is NOT taken from the FSX folder, right ?

Because in FSX (opposite to FS9) the scenery.cfg that is actually in used is not in the FSX root folder. Instead, is located at:

%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Microsoft\FSX\Scenery.cfg

You should have sent me THIS file to check for errors. If you sent me the one in the main FSX folder, it doesn't do anything, is only used as a backup to repair the installation so, it's the same as when you install FSX fresh.

The scenery.cfg that I sent you is from %appdata%/Microsoft/FSX and not the fsx folder. When I manually added Zurich to the scenery library nothing showed up and sometimes when I clck FLY NOW! and the scenery loads it crashes when I get to 100% and I checked the report and it said the following files included in the error are fsx.CFG.txt, dxdiag.txt, scenery.cfg, fdr.dat, and DLL.xml

Can you check if the files were installed in the FSDreamTeam folder at least ? This would at least mean the installation completed.

Check the FSX\FSDreamteam\Zurich folder, it should be 224MB in size.

All of the ZurichX files are installed in the FSdreamteam folder and the total size of the folder with Zurich, O'hare, JFK, and Couatl inside is 567MB.

So, let me recap:

- You haven't got any error messages in the installation.

- The scenery wasn't added to the scenery library

- If you add it manually, it doesn't appear anyway

- The Addon Manager works

- The scenery is not even running in trial ?

This simply can't be. Are you using FSX + SP2 or FSX + Acell ?

I already bought the scenery and registered it and I am using fsx/sp2, not acceleration.
