Issue with Aerosoft Oslo v2 after update 1.03
« on: February 11, 2014, 05:25:04 pm »
After installing the latest update (1.03) for Aerosoft Oslo v2 GSX no longer works but gives an error message saying there are no parkings available.

I found the problem but I'm not sure how to fix it. Looking at the screenshot below you can see that GSX uses the wrong BGL. I'm not 100% because there are lots of BGL found in that folder but I think the correct BGL would be ENGM_AFX.bgl

Is there any way for me to manually change what BGL GSX will use for a certain airport or is some fix/update required either from you or Aerosoft?

Try to use the function to disable a specific airport, ENG1 in this case, the disable_on_airports parameter explained at Page 19 of the GSX manual.

If that doesn't work, you might try moving the real AFCAD file into a separate folder ( doesn't Aerosoft use a separate folder with all their AFCADs ? That could be a good location ), and be sure you give it an higher priority on the Scenery Library.

Tried both your suggestions but unfortunately none of them worked.

When I tried disabling ENG1 via coutladdons.ini as described in the GSX doc I received a message GSX has been disabled for the airport and when I tried moving the correct BGL (or at least what I guess is the correct BGL, have to verify this with Aerosoft) into a separate folder and then adding this new folder in FSX scenery library above the original entry for this addon airport I was back receiving the error that no parkings were available at this airport.

To answer your question where Aerosoft store their afcads I think normally they are found under ...FSX\aerosoft\name of airport\Scenery. Below is a screenshot showing the Scenery folder for Oslo v2

You should also exit from FSX, restart it, and let GSX update the scenery cache.

I'm fairly sure they also use a separate folder for all their AFCADs from different products, I think it's Aerosoft\AFD or something like that.

Just did another test to make sure I did everything exactly as you suggested but still same thing I'm afraid...receiving the message no parking are available as soon as I press the hotkey for GSX.

You're correct regarding the AFD folder but it didn't hold anything related to ENGM.

If you move the .BGL to a separate folder on an higher layer, you can't also use the disable_on_airports method.

I haven't been using the two different methods at the same time.

I haven't been using the two different methods at the same time.

Then it will work with the method of moving the .BGL on higher layer, and be sure you restart FSX and let GSX update its cache. To force a cache update, remove the following folder:

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX\SceneryIndexes
C:\ProgramData\Virtuali\Couatl

You are not new having problems with updating the Scenery Library:

http://www.fsdreamteam.com/forum/index.php/topic,9807.msg77209.html#msg77209

It's possible this AFCAD has an error, but it also possible ANOTHER AFCAD has an error, which doesn't allow the cache rebuild to be completed.

Also, what the GSX scenery editor is saying now about the AFCAD being in use ?

And of course, you can also check your Couatl.LOG file, as I've explained in the other message from you, perhaps there's some diagnostic about this.

None of the two methods you've mentioned have worked and I already cleared the airport DB cache by deleting the files you mention.

A temporary fix was presented over in Aerosoft's support forum, to remove the flatten BGL incorrectly used by GSX. Will have to wait for a comment from the developer though how removing this file will affect the scenery since that file obviously is there for a reason.

Aerosoft released a new Alpha_Flatten.bgl file and with the new file GSX works just fine again  :)

The fix can be found here ->

I still don't consider the thing to be properly solved. As I've said, moving the normal AFCAD on a separate layer with an higher priority SHOULD have fixed it, because GSX will use the AFCAD with the highest priority.

That's why I've asked if, after moving the AFCAD to a separate folder, the GSX scenery editor still reported the wrong one, and why I've asked to have a look at your Couatl.LOG file, perhaps there was something else.

Well, I'm good with having the problem solved but if I find the time for it I'll do another test with the old file and let you know the result.

When it comes to this specific issue something was clearly wrong and not only at my end because other people noticed the same problem. However I might have some other issues because I've noticed the GSX airport cache doesn't update itself anymore after changes done to the scenery library. Now I have to always manually delete the cache files to force an update.

Do you have any tips on how I could troubleshoot that type of issue, you said something about I might have a bad/corrupted afcad but how could I find that? All my addon airports do work fine though, wouldn't I also see other problems with an airport with a corrupt afcad file?

That was just an hypothesis and, as I've said, the Couatl.LOG file might have some hints about this.

Haven't had the time to do any more testing with Oslo yet but this is what my Couatl.log file looks like and as you can see it seems there is a problem with a UK2000 scenery BGL (egbb_afx_UK2xTRM.BGL) but I've verified the file does exist and the scenery works just fine so not sure why the log reports the file as missing?

Re: Issue with Aerosoft Oslo v2 after update 1.03
« Reply #14 on: February 12, 2014, 04:16:38 pm »
So I now performed another test and this is what I did step by step

- deleted Couatl.log and Couatl.err from %appdata%\Virtuali to make sure I would have fresh log files
- manually deleted GSX airport cache
- uninstalled the Oslo scenery and then started FSX to let it update the scenery library
- installed the Oslo scenery and again started FSX to let it update the scenery library
- started FSX at gate 42 at Oslo and then tried starting GSX and got the same error about no parkings available
- exited FSX and moved the correct afcad file to it's own folder and included this folder in the scenery library above the original Oslo 2
- again manually deleted GSX airport cache (since GSX for some reason no longer updates the airport cache automatically)
- started FSX and GSX and same error again about no parkings available
- checked what BGL GSX was using and noticed the same (Alpha_Flatten.bgl) file was still in use
- went to check the log files under %appdata%\Virtuali but to my surprise no new log files had been created
- removed the new folder from the scenery library
- copied the correct afcad back to it's original location under ...FSX\aerosoft\Mega Airport Oslo 2.0\Scenery
- replaced the original Alpha_Flatten.bgl with the fixed one provided by the developer of the Oslo scenery
- started FSX and then GSX and all was fine

Still no log files found though for GSX under %appdata%\Virtuali and still GSX won't rebuild it's airport cache automatically.
