AFCAD problem
« on: September 17, 2008, 03:30:44 am »
It seems in the provided AFCAD that Runway 14R/32L is not properly aligned to the scenery, I have witnessed yesterday AI planes attempting to take off with about a quarter of the runway behind them. :o

To compare: The real airport...

And the AFCAD layout...

Notice the difference?

I understand that AFCADs are easy to find, but the only one that I have located on AVSIM has failed to impress me (No American Eagle). This also leaves the issue that AI planes are going to think part of the runway is in the grass.

Any suggestions apart from making a new AFCAD? (I don't have the resources).

I believe that is done on purpose.  That allows planes to take off without having to cross over the intersecting runway.  I think it was modelled this way as that is how it is done in real life for the smaller aircraft that use the runway.  I might be very wrong though.  Anyways, I don't see how aircraft are going the grass passed the runway.  That shouldn't be happening.

Yeah, maybe so. Guess that Runway is out of the question for a 744, then. Always a compromise, that FS...

Oh well, I still have 32R for my heavies. :D

Cheers!

Oh, and AI in the grass was meaningless speculation, bydaway*. ;)

Would anyone on these forums actually understand this "inside joke"? :D ;)

Isn't 32R basically the same length as 32L by looking at the AFCAD?
