Uninstalling Addon manager and GSX before installing required?

It it was required, we would said that.

Just read the announcement post, it's all there.

Surely not, and we would said that. As explained many times already, the only time you need to reactivate a product, is when you change major hardware components, or reformat Windows.

Ok, maybe a little dense.  Figured it out.  You just spoiled us with the in sim updates . . .

It has always been like that, and the manual explains that too.

There are minor updates we can apply without restarting FSX, and major updates that requires quitting from FSX and downloading and installing the Stand-Alone Addon Manager. This is clearly a major update, because it required to update several files (including the Couatl.exe itself) that can't be written while FSX is running.

Some posts have been removed, because this is the ANNOUNCEMENT post only. We would like it to keep it that way, possibly discussing just things about the update process itself, not GSX bugs you found.

If you found a problem with GSX, please open a separate thread with a proper subject, so it will get a better chance to be noticed. Posting all sort of issues into the announcement thread, will only result making it unreadable.

Sorry, but whatever I do, no new download appears.  Huh
Any way you could be a bit more specific? Like... providing a link for example?

thank you

...what is where???

All the informations you need to apply the update, of course:

Quote
To get the update, you have the following options:

1) As a Live Update, you'll be notified of a major update, which will require to DOWNLOAD and INSTALL the updated Stand-Alone Addon Manager for FSX

2) By downloading the full GSX installer.

If using option 1) the Live Update program will present you the Stand-Alone Addon Manager download page with a download link, but of course that link is repeated on our Home page and on each and every "Info" page for every product.

If using option 2) the GSX full installer link is where it has always be: on the "Products" page, which is were you find all full installers of any FSDT product.

If you mean you haven't got a notification from Live Update, it's because, as explained on the manual, an *automatic* notification will only come every 24 hours since the last automatic check.

But of course, you can check for new updates every time, using the Couatl menu, "Check for Updates" option.

Is there any way that during the update install process, that you can optionally install the new afcad to each airport? Having it update every time and replace every afcad that is made, it pretty much eliminates the possibility if user customization if the afcad is always being updated. I think that this has to be one if my biggest pet peves that comes along with gsx. I know that it makes a back up copy of the afcad that is being replaced.  Its quite annoying always have to remember to back up for one just in case the install process does not make the back up file and two to have to rename and replace the newer one with the one that I have customized the way I want.

Or any other suggestion is to only update the afcad every so often and not every time or every other time there is an update.

Thanks

No point doing that, since if the AFCAD which was there in the scenery folder before updated is different than the one we have on the server, a BACKUP will be made, with current time/date.

This doesn't make any sense: the installer WILL make a backup, if a backup is not made, is because the AFCAD was identical and no, we don't use an unreliable time/date check, but a real MD5 hashing of the file so, you can be sure if the file is different, it WILL be backed up.

and two to have to rename and replace the newer one with the one that I have customized the way I want.

This has even less sense, it takes 1 second to rename the backup.

This does even *less* sense than the other two combined: are you suggesting we should restrain from updating our own sceneries, in order to allow to customize the AFCAD ? Sorry, no. We update our files when we decide to, most of users don't customize their AFCAD and expect bugs to be fixed as soon as possible, those able to customize an AFCAD, are SURELY able to rename the backup file to continue their work.

In any case, it's not that we update the AFCAD "too often", the AFCAD might not have been updated, but it's downloaded anyway, because the installer found YOUR AFCAD on your scenery was DIFFERENT! As I've said, it doesn't matter if it's newer or older, making a date comparison would be too unreliable so, if the local AFCAD is *different* it will be replaced with the one from the server.

Sorry, I might just be plain stupid or blind:
but for the love of it I have no bloody idea which version I got.
I followed your instructions, downloaded "setup_addonmanagerX.exe" (14.1MB), double-clicked it...

...and nothing.
tried the same procedure by right-clicking the .exe with admin rights and this time:

...still nothing.

I can not find any update or .cfg file anywhere.

I would be very much obliged if you could be a bit more specific (and not state the same crap as you did in your previous post) because to some of us newcomers, it makes absolutely no sense at all.
I have no bloody idea where I can get the new update from,
I have no idea what version I got

...and I have no more patience wasting my time asking you for some simple help after spending $40.00 on a wonderful addon, but some horrible support.

Unless you don't come up with a plain and simple answer and stop referring to this stupid email we all got, I will be forced to write a plain but very detailed review on AV-Sim.

Regards
