We are happy to announce a never seen before on Flight sim feature, to be included in the upcoming KDFW update:

RWSL Lights

Dallas-Fort Worth is one of the first airports in the world that experimented a new kind of runway alert lights, called RWSL. It's made by 3 different lights systems:

REL (Runway Entrance Lights)
THL (Takeoff Hold Lights)
FAROS (Final Approach Runway Occupancy Signal)

REL and THL and strings of red lights that turn on automatically when it's unsafe to enter the runway (REL) or when it's unsafe to takeoff or land (THL). FAROS it's also an alert to indicate there's an airplane on the runway, and it's represented by flashing the PAPI.

The feature is implemented thanks to our exclusive Couatl Python engine, and it's fully interactive with AI traffic and the user airplane. The actual behaviour and location of the light system has been implemented according to the official specifications. You can read more on the RWSL web site: http://www.rwsl.net/

The RWSL system is going to be implemented in the future in 22 other major US airports so, we expect to make this a standard feature for our upcoming sceneries, which is convenient because, the other airport were RWLS was tested, it's KLAX...

This will be available in the next days as KDFW version 2.0, as soon we finish some additional testing, and will be of course a free update for all KDFW customers, in FSX only. There's no FS9 version planned, since it's programmed in Python using our FSX-only scripting engine and it relies heavily on Simconnect.

See below some screenshot of the RELs in action, which are particularly useful in low visibility, so you'll know it's unsafe to cross or enter a runway, even if you don't see the AI which might just be departing.

Very cool but I could have sworn I've seen this before (in a freeware scenery and isn't this in ImagineSim's KEWR - maybe not though...I could just be imagining that).  But I am almost positive I saw this years ago in a freeware scenery for FS9.

Nicely done!!! Cool

This "in-pavement" lighting system also turns green (in reality) for a GO trasition clearance [progressive taxi guidance], giving safe taxi & preventing incursions; does your's do that too?  I noticed that was missing in the KJFK package, too; hope you'll included them there as well in all future releases & updates of all CLASS B airports that support them (inc. KORD).

And... if you could give the pilot/ATC controller the ability to make requests for approach light stage controls, that would be quite awesome, too. Cheesy
Also, any other FSX "Tool" features yet? Huh

No, they don't. Not a KDFW at least. RWSL lights are red and they are either on or off, then don't have other colors. Check the explanation of the system here:

http://rwsl.ll.mit.edu/DFW/index.html

There's a flash animation that demonstrate the system, and nowhere in the RWLS documentation green lights are mentioned. You might refer to a different system, not RWSL. We have added RWSL only now, which is made by RELs, THLs and FAROS.

If you could direct me to some documentation that clearly explains how it works, we might consider it: it shouldn't be too difficult for KDFW, since all approach lights are custom anyway, so we can control them in any way we want.

Like I said, he's talking real world and you're reading things that aren't there.

I was refering to both real world and upcoming sceneries:

Since KLAX appears to be leading the poll with a significant margin, unless there's a drastic change of votes in the next week, it's quite safe to assume it will be done, that's why I've said it's good that real world KLAX has RWSL as well: it just fits in having implemented them in FSX.

It would be a really cool if the current second place KMIA would be done at the same time as KLAX buy the other guys who are finishing up the Hawiian stuff. I would be sim overload if we could get LAX and MIA released within a month of each other.  Grin

I see Umberto already commented but if you took a second and actually read what he said completely, the key words are "which is convenient because..."  That was the indicator that they were planning on doing KLAX seeing as it is leading in the poll.

Any chance of incorperating RWSL into other FSDT airports?
