Runway Flickering & Bleeding ... found a fix for me
« on: July 24, 2010, 02:16:46 pm »
Hi this is my first post so I am a newbie in the FSDT community. Purchased PHNL, KJFK & KLAS last week and absolutely loved them all  :D.

Had similar runway bleed effect (flickering and turning green) on RWY 4R & 26R as reported by a small number of forum users. Tried a few things (i.e., routine check for foreign afcad, used the updated afcad from Virtuali with MSL 13.2, etc) but effect was still there.

My Fix: Opened MS stock phnl file APX05420.bgl with Airport Designer Editor to compare the airport elevation values. Stock airport altitute value was lower so I increased it to 13.15 feet to better match FSDT's updated afcad.

Tested and flickering solved  ;D. Not sure if this solution will work for all as I do not have UTerrain, MegasceneryX etc, but do have FSGlobal. I run FSX SP2 under Win 7, 64 bit, ATI 5870.

Your solution seems to be exactly backwards to what it should be. Flickering usually accours when two surfaces are both visible and are too close to each other in the altitude axis so, making them exact the same altitude would only increase the problem, not fix it.

And, the default AFCAD should be excluded anyway by our own so, it shouldn't visible in the first place. in fact, since I still can't see any flickering, this must been caused by something else so, your fix might be only valid in case someone has this "something else" installed, which we don't have identified yet.
