The bumps/ speculars look great. This is going to be well worth the wait.
What does dumping the fs8 ground mean in terms of performance? Perhaps the performance advantage (if any) is negated by the bumps/ speculars? Just curious.

Good question Ron I figure the better the video card you have the better performance you get with the shader stuff but I wonder how much do we really lose with the legacy code running is it enough to make a difference? frame rates aside the ground looks really fantastic and the shaders of course will enhance it greatly.

Simply amazing this looks very realistic!
How would you describe performance? Same or better/worse?

Where is the HD grass? was it in the concrete?

Please tell me your at least going to do this for the remaining Hawaiian Airports, if not for PHNL as well?

That's too late for them.

Virtuali,

Alright, if this is a "new" technique that you are developing, etc. its understandable; but, can we hope to have it in other future products or is this a "one shot deal;" due to size of the airport, dev. time, etc.?

And, if its not too early to ask, might we hope for some good news about the "UNOFFICIAL" announced stuff as well?  Or has it been pushed further down the developmental "pipeline" for obvious reasons?

As always, I'll wait patiently for it...

We'll decide on a case by case basis which future products, apart for KDFW, will have it. It's meaningless now, to discuss about unannounced products, we are working on KDFW, let's focus on it, please.

Already answered about this last week:

I just want you to know that I think your innovative production methods are amazing, and I am looking so much forward to this new technique AND the awesome DFW airport.

Is the youtube video showing only wet surfaces? Because they seem way too reflective for airport pavement. I can understand when it is soaked, but otherwise, airport pavement is not reflective like that. It almost looks shiny.

Then again, does not really affect me as I only use FS9. But, since you posted it, I thought I would give you my opinion.

Is the youtube video showing only wet surfaces? Because they seem way too reflective for airport pavement. I can understand when it is soaked, but otherwise, airport pavement is not reflective like that. It almost looks shiny.

The first part shows dry pavement but, the Time of the Day is late noon, which has been choosen to maximize the effect, because it would be otherwise very difficult to see, giving the low res and high level of compression on YouTube and on internet videos in general.

In any case, shinyness alone is not a property of wet surfaces, what gives the wet effect, is reflections. As you can see, in the first part, where there's no rain, there are no reflections, just the diffuse shine created by the low-angle of the sun over the pavement. With rain, shinyness goes down, and is replaced by reflections.

The effect is much toned down at different times of the day, but is still visible ( live on a PC, not on video ), and even if the shinyness is less, bump mapping will increase the perception of the small ground details, like pavement cracks, that would have been impossible to obtain just by regular texturing only, because they would always look flat, regardless of the resolution used.

And, what makes a lot of difference "live", at all times of the day, is the fact that the tarmac/concrete has shinyness, while the grass doesn't have any. This create the most realistic contrast, between the different surfaces, which will appear really "different", not just having different colors.

I seem to remember that Cloud 9 has a similar effect for rain for Orlando. Is this not correct?

I think this is a great looking airport. My only question is What kind of powerhouse computer would you need to run this with great graphics also is this going to look good for fs 9 as it does in FSX.. Thanks
