I seem to remember that Cloud 9 has a similar effect for rain for Orlando. Is this not correct?

If you refer to just the rain effect, then yes, Orlando had it because it uses a default AFCAD ground layer, so it has rain effect, just like any other FSX default airport. More recent airports we made, like KLAS, Geneva and PHNL, all have rain effects too, because of a combination of AFACD+custom ground.

What will be different in KDFW, and has never done before by anyone else, is the ground layer will also use FSX Shaders so, it will get effects like bump mapping or specular highlights. Bump mapping, in this case, is extremely effective to increase detail without increasing texture resolution, and to let the roughness of the asphalt/concrete surface appear way more realistic, since it reacts to the changing light and the viewing angle.

The rain was shown in the video just to demonstrate that using this method, doesn't lose any of the other features and, on top of that, would also add DX10 compatibility, that right now we don't have for all airports.

It's just too early to discuss performances. However, we are obviously trying to achieve similar performances to our other sceneries.

Good to hear, I just hope that it performans the same or better than the default version. I dont know what it is about the default DFW, but that is one of the few default airports in FSX that gives me a bit of performance trouble. I can fly into the default KMIA, KLAX or KJFK with Extremely Dense scenery complexity and 100% AI and still get about 25 to 30 FPS, then I try that at DFW and get about 16 FPS, even with traffic turned off.

Maybe if the FSDT version of KDFW proves to be a hard airport to maintain good performance, we could get more tweaking options for it as far as objects we can turn off or remove.

I should add that for pratical purposes,no one wants a lag in performance with either FS9 or FSX Smiley

I'm sorry but I have to ask it.

Will this drive up the price of our product? If so, what about the FS9 product?

Price will be decided at the end of the product. Of course, it wouldn't be very smart for us, to price it above to what the market is prepared to accept.

If so, what about the FS9 product?

All the FSX versions of our products already have several features (YouControl, ParkMe, more complex Textures), that we obviously spent time to develop, and which are factored in the product price. No difference here, it's just one more feature, which can't just be included in FS9, because FS9 doesn't support it.

Man, do i wish i had to skill to do that,  ive been trying to update my hometown airport with custom ground polys and custom buildings for a long time.  The buildings i got down to a fine art but when it comes to ground poly's, i ask myself why does it have to be so hard to make for FSX.  Huh Grin

Great work on the scenery, ill defiantly get it.  Smiley

Thats the whole point of scenery though you put time and effort into making it and it turns out amazing.  Sure its alot of work but it is so cool when its done.

Depends which dual core you have. for fs9 you should be ok for fsx with dfw its gonna difficult.
