Obsolete FSDT Install guide
« on: August 22, 2019, 08:32:55 pm »
I just installed KORD V2, and it put a desktop shortcut to an FSdt_install_guide.pdf file that dates back to 2009...it's full of references to esellerate, doesn't mention user-controlled deactivation etc.

The docs that come with the scenery also reference this long-obsolete guide.

We had to choices:

- Delay KORD V2 several other days, just to take more time to update the activation guide

OR

- Update it in the next days, hoping it wouldn't be so hard to figure it out, considering the software works exactly like before in the Addon Manager, so it's not as if you would have to do anything different. The only thing really different is the address of the web site to go to when you lose an order, and this is already covered in our FAQ page:

Well, of course there are always more than just two choices...I would recommend, in the interim while a proper document is prepared, a placeholder document that refers users to the website and the FAQ, rather than a decade-old document chock full of really outdated information, much of which should have been updated years ago.

I may know it's bad info, and you may know it's bad info, but a new user reading the documentation just placed onto his desktop by the brand-new installer will likely be confused and frustrated...and justifiably unimpressed.

First, the information is not yet obsolete, since Esellerate still works until September 30th, including the users support site to retrieve their old orders.

From your own point of view, meaning what your are supposed to DO to activate a scenery as an user, nothing has really changed: you still press the "Register Serial" button, type some Serial Number, and wait for a confirmation so, what difference does it make, if the software is connecting to Esellerate (and it still does, until the end of September ) or Soraco, considering even an Esellerate Serial Number WORKS on Soraco servers as well ?

The only differences are the Buy procedures, which shows outdated screenshots, but still, users will still have to press the SAME button as before ( "Buy on Web" in the Addon Manager ), it's just a different webpage will show, which still looks like a very standard shopping cart website, like countless of others so, again, what difference does it make, if the web page looks different, considering the sequence of operation the USER is supposed to DO it's the same ? We could have change the theme on the old Esellerate website, would that require an updated manual too ?

The only thing really different, is the offline activation, which incidentally wasn't even there in the old installation guide, even if Esellerate had that feature as well.
