Addon Manager not updating
« on: May 29, 2019, 11:45:02 pm »
I have downloaded the new stand alone addon manager and installed as instructed.  4.5.0.17 and it still says to update it.  I ran the Couatl updater and it failed to update.  I uninstalled the previous version of addon manager which in my sim was 4.5.0.17 and no joy and installed the new version.  When I ran the addon manager setup it instructed to download and install the new version of GSX2, and yet nothing works.  I did download the stand alone version TODAY 05/29/19 and it said 4.5.0.10 the file name downloaded today.  In the sim this reads 4.5.0.17 after 4.5.0.10 installed, so............  what is going on here?

Update:

So far this is what I"ve found.  Sounds like there's a deeper issue here then just the addon manager.  I was running everything over the weekend just fine and all I did was simply loaded in CLT and ran a GSX configuration to customize an airport and things go haywire.

Steps I've taken so far and repeated
Ran live update
Unistalled the stand alone addon manager
reinstalled the stand alone addon manager
uninstalled and reinstalled KCLT (thinking the problem my be there)
ran live update again
uninstalled GSX1 and 2
reinstalled GSX1 and 2 (running from the downloaded location in My Documents)
restarted PC
ran live update again

and these are the results

KLAX no buildings
KCLT (Addon manager error)
PHOG No buildings ground textures load ok

I have not checked my other airports but am assuming some are working and some are not after all this happened.  I was too tired trying to work on one thing when the rest went bonkers. Again it was all working fine one day and now it is not.

uninstalled GSX1 and 2 reinstalled GSX1 and 2 (running from the downloaded location in My Documents)

Please clarify what do you mean with "reinstalled GSX 1 and 2". The way you wrote it, it seemed as if you did two separate steps ( or 4, uninstall 2 things and reinstall 2 things ) and, since this is clearly not possible, since the one and only GSX full installer we have online INCLUDES GSX Level 2, so you surely cannot install two installers, which don't exists, maybe you assumed they are, and used an old "GSX1" installer, and a later GSX installer and, if you mixed up their order, it's very likely a big mess will happen, since you cannot downgrade a full GSX installation with the latest installer, and put an older one on top of it.

In addition to that, installing the Stand-Alone Addon Manager is NOT required anymore (since at least 2 years), since the current Live Update can update all FSDT products automatically, and the Addon Manager is of course included with every installer.

Just follow this. To the letter, don't do anything else:

- Uninstall ALL your FSDT products, including the Stand-Alone Addon Manager (found as "Virtuali Addon Manager" ). Reply YES to the question "Do you want to remove the Addon Manager ?"

- Reinstall all your FSDT products using ONLY the CURRENT installer available online now.

- Do not install the Stand-Alone Addon Manager. Do not install any older installers you might have.

- If you had a customization file for KCLT in the %APPDATA%\Virtuali folder, remove it.

- If you already have SODE 1.6.4 installed, you MUST rename these two folders from KCLT and KSDF:

Addon Manager\Simobjects\Misc\FSDT_Jetway_KCLT should be be renamed as FSDT_SODE_Jetway_KCLT
Addon Manager\Simobjects\Misc\FSDT_Jetway_KSDF should be be renamed as FSDT_SODE_Jetway_KSDF

Otherwise the jetway will not work.

Ok I also missed one thing too.  I needed to install GSX first after doing alll of the uninstalls.  If I miss a step somewhere then things get screwy.  Correct?

Just follow my procedure TO THE LETTER. It doesn't say anything about the reinstallation order. It only says to reinstall all FSDT product using their current installers so, you can safely assume the installation order doesn't matter.

Hi Virtuali

I'm sorry for being so daft. It sounds like here we're talking about scenery's that already installed. I've followed your directions which in part reads:

1 - "Uninstall your FSDT products, including the Stand-Alone Add-on Manager (found as "Virtuali add-on Manager" ). Reply YES to the question "Do you want to remove the Add on Manager ?"
2 - "Reinstall all your FSDT products using ONLY the CURRENT installer available online now".

The GSX Control Panel makes no reference to scenery, I thought it might since I can't find the new installer.

Online, I don't see any reference to an "install tool" except the Add-on Manager. On the FSDT site I find the Add-on Manager that we're not supposed to use. Specifically, where can I get this new "CURRENT installer" & what's it's name?

Tkx for your great support!
Doug

Nowhere I ever said you had to use the GSX Control Panel. You use the WINDOWS Control Panel to uninstall stuff (like any other Windows program) but I don't see any reference to this in any of my post: I just said "uninstall", assuming that you know that a Windows program is uninstalled from the WINDOWS Control Panel.

"Online", of course means THIS WEBSITE and, I guess the "Products and Downloads" page should be the first obvious choice to find our installers. Where else ?

I know. Regarding my reference to GSX I was just thinking out loud. Sorry. Yes, I'm very familiar with the workings of Windows7.

>>I don't see any reference to an "install tool" except the Add-on Manager.<<
I mis-quoted, Sorry again. Should've read "Reinstall all your FSDT products using ONLY the CURRENT installer available online now". The "Current installer", is that the Add-on Manager? "Do not install the Stand-Alone Add-on Manager"... this is what's throwing me for a loop.

"Online", of course means THIS WEBSITE and, I guess the "Products and Downloads" page should be the first obvious choice to find our installers. Where else ?
Again, is this the Add-on Manager currently available?

As an aside, I'm using scenery I purchased back in 2017 - not sure if that matters or not.

Why you keep worrying about the Addon Manager, when I clearly said NOT to use it, since it's not required anymore ?

This is what the side bar on each and every product page on our site says about the Addon Manager, in the place were it USED to be a download link for it, for example the GSX page:

http://www.fsdreamteam.com/products_gsx_level2.html

And all the other page of the site say the same thing.

Standalone Addon Manager

The Stand-Alone Addon Manager is no longer required. Just run the FSDT Live Update from the Desktop, to keep all your FSDT products constantly updated.

So, in this case, with "current installer", I mean "the current installer of any FSDT product you need to reinstall". Which cannot be anything else, since we REMOVED all Addon Manager download links, and placed that alert in place of the download link, just to make it clear it's not required anymore.

That doesn't say much. But why even worry ? I said to download the latest installer, and that's the only thing you can find online right now so, even if you are not sure if your installer is old or new, just download it again, and then you can be sure it's the latest version.

I thought my other sentence was pretty clear on this:

- Do not install the Stand-Alone Addon Manager. Do not install any older installers you might have
