View/shadow optimization?
« on: February 03, 2019, 09:42:29 pm »
What do these options do? Also, what's the best way to reduce/minimize/eliminate the stutter/pause when approaching the airport? I'm on FSX-SE

View optimization turns on/off objects that are behind you. Shadows optimization removes shadows from your airplane and AI after your viewpoint is higher than a certain amount.

They will help with fps, but view optimization will likely made stuttering worse because, as usual, when you want to gain fps ( by destroying/creating things sooner), you lose smoothness.

The one thing that have a visible impact on reducing stuttering is, instead, the Anti-popup. And of course, for the same reason explained above, the more you raise it, the more you reduce stuttering, the more you lose fps because, the only way to reduce stuttering is to destroying/creating stuff less often, which means loading more stuff at the same time and/or loading earlier, which means lowering fps.

And of course, on FSX, the more object you load, the more you risk OOMs (Out of Memory), because not everything might fit in memory, although KDFW being an old scenery won't probably risk this like more recent sceneries might.
