Error Messages during re-installation of GSX
« on: April 30, 2018, 11:01:26 am »
I recently refreshed my PC after having a major FSX issue and when i tried to reinstall GSX, I got two error messages... "Runtime Error (at 150:1749): Out Of Range." as well as "Error 3 running C:\Program Files (x86)\Addon Manager\Coutl_Updater2.exe which means The system cannot find the path specified", which appeared after I clicked 'OK' to the Runtime Error.

Please would you be so kind as to refer me to a solution to this, as I would like to try and get my FSX up and running again...

My specs are:
4GB RAM
750GB HDD
Windows 8.1
and I am running FSX SP2

Thanking you in advance

Dominic Scott

This has been discussed in another thread:

http://www.fsdreamteam.com/forum/index.php/topic,17960.msg125846.html#msg125846

As explained in the other thread, the error means the Couatl_Updater2.exe is MISSING and the only possible explanation for this error is that your antivirus has mistakenly removed it, since we surely install it with GSX, so either you haven't configured it correctly, or you might have some other software which is acting like an antivirus, and is doing this, causing the error.

Some defective antivirus just remove the Couatl_Updater2.exe because it's downloading something (assuming it might be dangerous), which of course, is the main point of an updater...

But then you shouldn't see the "Error 3 running C:\Program Files (x86)\Addon Manager\Coautl_Updater2.exe which means The system cannot find the path specified" which, as the message says, it means the .exe wasn't there anymore. Are you still getting that error ?

Please create a log of the update process, this way:

- Go the the Addon Manager folder with the Window File Explorer

- Open a new command prompt there, by typing "CMD" and then Enter on the blank address bar on top of the explorer windows.

- Type the following:

Couatl_Updater /LOG=log.txt

The updater process will run normally, and will create a log.txt file in the Addon Manager folder. ZIP it and attach it to a post, so I can have a look at it.

I'm sorry but, your log shows the Couatl_updater2.exe cannot be found, which can only indicate some kind of external interference from another software, most likely the antivirus because, if you can see the file, the only possible reason for the error is the antivirus blocking from executing the updater so, it looks AS IF it was removed, even if it's not.

- Configure the antivirus to exclude the Addon Manager folder from scanning

- Run the Updater again

Be sure you don't have ANOTHER software which is doing the same thing, like a defective anti-spyware or similar.
