Chicago frame rates really poor in P3D
« on: April 23, 2017, 02:16:10 pm »
I have 9 FSDreamTeam airports and at all bar Chicago the frame rates are fine. 20-30 on average.

But at KORD they're around 10-12. Settings in P3D are identical for all airports. Why is the performance at KORD so bad?
Cheers,
Ray.

Are those numbers with or without AI or weather?

With Ai. Max of 250 and light cumulus. I can get around 28fps at Aerosoft Heathrow with same number of Ai.
Cheers,
Ray.

You cannot possibly know if the AI impact is the same, even at the "same number", because this doesn't take into account which models they use (their polygon count), and how many *DIFFERENT* liveries are loaded and how many *DIFFERENT* models there are at any given time. The more different stuff is loaded, the more the impact.

That's why it's always wrong to test a scenery with AI enabled. If you want to know if the scenery is a problem, always test with 0% and NO weather.

I agree so I have now disabled Ai and set Wx to clear skies. I have positioned the Cub at Rwy 32L, slewed to 900ft and turned right to a heading of 045. With a 2D cockpit and pressing W to remove all but 3 small gauges the fps is now in the 60s.  ???  Turn Ai back on (50% and limited to 250 Ai) and it plummets down to 13 or so. But leaving it alone for a couple of minutes and it recovers to 25.

It would seem it takes a couple of minutes for everything to stabilise. That's really strange.
Cheers,
Ray.

That's confirmed what I suspected, it was the AI. It's not strange it goes up a bit after a while, since AI usually takes a while to settle in. Again, this is vastly different depending on their livery, models, schedules, departing parking spot, arriving runway, etc...

Thanks Umberto. I'm very relieved. Do you think there are some Ai where the livery textures may not be fully optimised?
Cheers,
Ray.

Difficult to say, without looking at all of them, one by one. Most likely, is something still derived from FS9, which usually cause issues.

Thanks. I think I'll ask the question on the MyTraffic forum. The problem is definitely not with FSDT scenery.  :)
Cheers,
Ray.
