hornet's landing gear retraction axis angles?
« on: November 08, 2016, 05:00:40 pm »
so this is a question about the real hornet rather than the sim, but since many people here actually know the hornet, I figured I'd ask here, sorry if this belongs somewhere else.

I've been trying to model a hornet in 3d during my free time, and been modeling it for years now, but I always give up when I try to model and rig the main landing gear. turns out that the shock joints are angled to the main and auxiliar arms, and I can't figure the correct angles so the piston will slide in properly. I'm using the acceleration hornet to study this, but obviously it's just a game model, it was probably done with not much concern regarding correct motion of the parts.

so I was wondering if anyone could help me out with this, like point out somewhere with a documentation specifying the correct angles or such, or maybe it's something more simple, idk, just open for ideas.

here's what it looks: http://imgur.com/gallery/9LokR

and in case someone is a 3d modeler, here's the file in 3ds max 2016 (student version) https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B53rqq20tuCJYnN4OTVicDNVRnM/view?usp=sharing

thanks in advance

I would recommend asking SPINs over at Sim Outhouse.  He is pretty knowledgeable on those type of details.

Interesting detail - over on the F-35 section of F-16.net recently there was some discussion about 'similar' matters so to illustrate some issues the Super Hornet Landing Gear was discussed. This page may interest you along with the PDF download?

The larger PDF was downloaded from this Boeing/McDonnell Douglas website with THOUSANDS of PDFs about their aircraft. Onesuch may hold the information you seek?

I am not an engineer - just interested - looking around the net an interesting perhaps PDF found here:

The link to the 1.3Mb PDF works in FireFox but not in IE 11 in Windows 10 so I'll attach the 74 page PDF below.
