Addon Manager Causing CTD **SOLVED**
« on: June 21, 2016, 05:48:50 am »
Hello,
I am trying to figure out what I might be doing wrong. I am running Windows 7 Pro 64bit. I have excluded any folder that has to do with P3D from my antivirus scan.
I completely disable my antivirus while installing the Addon Manager.
I have installed the latest graphics driver for my GPU.
If I install the latest Addon Manager it causes P3Dv3.1 to crash to the desktop.  If I uninstall it, P3Dv3.1 works perfectly.  Then I reinstall the latest Addon Manager and P3Dv3.1 crashes to the desktop.  Then I uninstall it and P3Dv3.1 works perfectly.
Actually it works so perfectly without it that I can pause in the middle of a flight and leave for several hours, then come back and finish my flight with no problem.
Then I reinstall the Addon Manager and P3Dv3.1 crashes to the desktop.
There is a very clear pattern here that suggests that the Addon Manager is not installing correctly, even though I am installing it as administrator with UAC turned completely off.
I have no FSDS airports installed right now, and GTX is uninstalled also, so it is only the Addon Manager that is causing the CTD every time it is installed.
What is happening?  I own every beautiful FSDT airport that is available, plus GTX and I cannot install any of them because I can't get the Addon Manager to work at all.
Please help me. Below is the Windows Logs:

Hi,

same here on FSX Acceleration,Win7 64bit.

FSX crashes right after launching it tonight.

After some testing I found out, that the only way
to get it running again is to deinstall the addon-manager.

Reinstalling the newest version of it and coutl causes CTD again.

Strange because I had never problems before and I am an FSDT customer from
the beginning.
And I did not change anything in the last days.

The last thing I did with addon-manager running well was doing the SODE-action
"moving the dreamliner out of the hangar" in the DD Warsaw-scenery.
No idea if there could be a relation to the addon-manager malfunction.

I have no anti-virus program running.

Regards,Jens P.

I'm having the exact same problem tonight.  I had a GSX crash when I went to request a parking spot at an arrival airport so after the flight I went and downloaded the latest Addon Manager and now I can't even get FSX to start.  I have a CTD every time.  I'm running FSX SP2.

I might be wrong, but something that I've noticed is that the Stand Alone Addon Manager used to make a text entry in my dll.XML file, but since I've upgraded to using the latest Addon Manager, it does not make any text entry in the dll.XML file.
Is this something that is wrong? Should I try to manually put a text entry in my dll.XML file based on the entry that used to go in there with the older versions of the Addon Manager?
Is the fact that the installer is not putting an entry in my dll.XML file what is causing P3D to crash?

You have crashes on .NET. These CANNOT be, in any way, have anything to do with the Addon Manager, which is a native Win32 app, not related in any way to the Addon Manager.

You also have crashes on Simconnect, but it's the FSX version. Nobody every reported a crash of the FSX version of the Simconnect library IN Prepar3D.

Do you use the P3D Migration Tool maybe ? From what it looks like, the Addon Manager is TRICKED by that dangerous software to THINK is running under FSX, so it's normal it will crash!

Disable the P3D Migration Tool, since it cannot work with a product that properly recognizes P3D and it must identify it as such.

Hello Umberto,
Yes, I do have the migration tool, but it is disabled.  I normally keep it disabled.  Do you think that it could still effect P3D when it is disabled?
I will uninstall it and try to reinstall the Addon Manager.
I could use the migration tool to install some addons, then just uninstall it when I'm done using it, if that will solve the problem.
I don't even have FSX installed on my computer, but for some reason I did, at some point, activate all of the Simconnect.exe files.  I can't remember for what, but I had a reason.

It doesn't seem to matter what I do.
I completely uninstalled the migration tool, reinstalled the Addon Manager and P3Dv3.1 crashes to the desktop.  Then I uninstall the Addon Manager and P3Dv3.1 works perfectly.
I remove all of the FSX Simconnect files from P3D and try to start it with the Addon Manager installed, and P3Dv3.1 crashes to the desktop.  Then I uninstall the Addon Manager and P3Dv3.1 works perfectly.
I have purchased all of the FSDT airports and GSX, and I cannot use any of them until I can get this Addon Manager working the way that it supposed to.
Please help me to get it working.  What in the world can it be that causes P3Dv3.1 to work absolutely perfectly until I install your Addon Manager, then it crashes to the desktop every time until I uninstall it.

Thank you,
Bob

Is there a specific reason why you are still using 3.1 ? 3.2 and 3.3 are much better. Yes, we support 3.1 but, we cannot test right now And maybe you have a minor hotfix version that we haven't added to the Addon Manager, so it's recognized by the installer, but something has changed in some internal memory locations what we need to support for each build, otherwise there will surely be crashes.

What's your build number ?

Hello Umberto,
I appreciate your response and support very much.
The version I have installed now is Prepar3D_v3_Academic_3.1.2.15831
I have not learned how to install scenery and aircraft outside of the of P3D main folder.  I've read some posts on it, but do not understand enough to be confident in doing it.
I know that if I do it that way, it would be much easier to upgrade P3D with every little update that they offer, but for now, it would be very, very difficult for me to uninstall and reinstall P3D every time they release a minor upgrade. Especially since I buy soooo many addons and airports.
Right now my P3D is running extremely good. I get very good frames and I do not get OOM errors, even flying over Drzewiecki Design's dense New York City scenery.
If P3D comes out with a real earth shaking upgrade, I will uninstall everything again and perform the upgrade. Hopefully by then, I will learn how to install scenery and aircraft outside of the P3D folder, which will be a big help in future upgrades.

Thank you,
Bob

Who told you to reinstall P3D every time there's a minor upgrade ??? I think the last time I reinstalled it, was when 3.0 came out.

Updating to a new minor version can't be easier:

- from the Windows Control Panel, Uninstall the P3D Client ONLY

- download and install the updated P3D Client

- as an additional step, you should also download and install the PD3 Content, otherwise no apps with a menu (like GSX) will work.

I didn't know that it was easy to upgrade P3D.  I'll try that and let you know how it works. I learned something knew today.

Hello Umberto,
I updated P3D to v3.5 just like you said and it worked fine.  I had to also install the Scenery update, but everything went fine and I didn't have any problems with my addon scenery and aircraft that was installed.
The best thing is that now the Addon Manager seems to be working fine.
I will start installing all of my FSDT and Flightbeam airports now. I'm really excited about that.
Thank you so much for your help.  I'll let you know if I have any more problems, but I don't think that I will. As far as I can tell, you can mark this thread "Solved".

Thank you,
Bob
