XClass World entry in Scenery Library
« on: November 30, 2013, 02:11:46 am »
Hi Everybody,

I have purchased the CD version of XClass which covers the entire planet.
When I install the landclasses, I see a few entries in the scenery library that refer to each continent (such as Europe, United States, Canada, etc.). One of the entries is "XClass World 2007 cloud9" (I have included an attachment to show it to you). I have been wondering what area this entry is covering. When I checked the directory by clicking on "Edit Area", it refers me to the XCLWRLD folder that contains subfolders for continents already, so I have no idea of the purpose of this entry. Could someone enlighten me?

Another question: Is this product still in development and will be updated in the future?  I have flown around a few places in Europe and USA, and while the accuracy and quality is excellent in Western Europe and the US, I have noticed that Eastern Europe (parts of Russia and Ukraine in particular) is noticeably behind the aforementioned regions when it comes to representation of smaller cities. In other words: Landclass information on vegetation is very good, but there is a lack of smaller cities and villages. In comparison, the landclasses from your competitor "MyWorld" do cover smaller cities/villages in Eastern Europe, but they are not as accurate in other regions. So I wanted to know if there will be future updates coming, especially since this product is still compatible with the new P3D V2 which is attracting more and more interest (and I guess also interest in XClass).

I would be glad to get a response.

It covers the "rest of the World", areas not covered by the main areas, like Pacific Islands, South-East Asia, etc.

Accuracy for a Landclass product depends on the original data sources, not all countries in the world have the same coverage quality. Yes, of course developers can merge data from multiple sources, and we did that, but for the areas that represent about 90% of our market, namely US and Western Europe.

Not sure we'll do any updates, also because the product's rights still belongs to Cloud9, we only licensed from them the right to sale and support. It works without any issues under P3D, you might just have to use the Migration tool, because the installer doesn't recognize P3D.

Hello,

Thank you for your response. Your statements make sense.

As far as the "XClass World 2007 cloud9" entry, I have one more question: There is a "scenery" subfolder besides the continent folders inside the "XCLWRLD" folder. This scenery subfolder seems to refer to the "World"-entry in the scenery library. However, when I open that subfolder, it is empty. I wonder if the installation was correct. Is the scenery subfolder supposed to contain some files?  I think so, since otherwise it would be useless.

Please let me know.

Sorry to dredge up such an old post but this is EXACTLY by question too.  This folder is empty for me as well.  I have the e-CD and wonder if there is something wrong with the installer?

Please let me know as well.

Thank you.
