Support for P3Dv3 Avatar mode
« on: November 03, 2015, 06:07:00 pm »
Hi Umberto!

The new Avatar functions of P3D v3 plus the GSX knowledge of the aircraft shapes might enable the development of crew animations such as walk-around.

Would you consider developing such functions?

Cheers, Richard ;)

We already working on this, and in fact, we are working right now on a totally new GSX/Couatl sub-system, that will handle a powerful and very precise collision system, bypassing many of the the limitations in the sim.

Unfortunately, the objects we could interact with are not always under our control so, for example, the default collision system is not precise enough (and it would slow down the sim if more resolution was used) and doesn't have enough resolution to allow entire freedom of movement around the airplane.

You might have noticed that, you cannot go *very* close to the airplane with the avatar, because the default crash system works with "boxes" of a certain size, so there are things you cannot do. We already made some of the GSX stairs to behave like solid platform, so you can climb them with the Avatar, but you cannot go too close to the airplane, and you cannot go inside.

So, we might have interesting new ways to interact with our sceneries and our objects (like GSX vehicles), but some of the more interesting things on airplanes will not be possible UNLESS airplane developers will start creating their models WITHOUT a crash box. Maybe some 3rd party airplanes are already made like this, others might need to be updated in order to allow more interaction with the Avatar.
