180° ambiguity error in f-18 radar?
« on: November 21, 2008, 07:45:46 pm »
Hello
I run Vista + FSX + Acceleraton on my new PC (Radeon HD4870 X2)
Used f-18 for an intercept on AI traffic.
Radar aquisition worked fine.  Target range switching indicated the target distance properly.
Even the *Next Target* function did its job by adding the aircraft type designator on the radar display.
However the target appeared 180° false on radar display.
I saw the target dead ahead but radar indicated target in trail position.
This persisted in various ranges and in all lateral directions  i.e. saw target on my left side, radar indicated opposite.
(some kind of al quaida sabotage;-?
Any similar obserations here? Any work around?
Günter

I think you are just assuming that the graphic symbol that looks like a "tail" is representing the tail of the aircraft you are following. But instead, it represents the heading the target is following. Once you see it this way, everything will fit...
