Terrain error + Couatl Scripting Engine Crash
« on: June 12, 2015, 08:27:46 pm »
On a fresh install of P3D v2.5, I have installed FSDT KLAS, as well as GSX, KFLL, KHNL and Hawaii 1.

At KLAS, the airport is on a raised plateau.
I know all about these kinds of errors and, normally, how to fix them, but the only way I can find to fix this is to deactivate the Pilots FS Global mesh layer for North America, which seems rather drastic.

Also, every time I start at KLAS, the Couatl Scripting Engine crashes.
After it crashes, the buildings at the airport all disappear...

Can I fix this or not?

I installed with Anti Virus (ESET) deactivated and the products have been activated.
I do not remember having these kind of problems in the past.

Thank you.

Couatl is still crashing, though not every time, any ideas?

I found this on AVsim, I also own the VRS Tacpack...

More info testing KLAS with P3D 2.4:

* With the TacPack dll in the dll.xml file disabled KLAS works all the time (couatl.exe does not crash) either running Active Sky Next or not running Active Sky Next.

* With TacPack dll enabled in the dll.xml, running Active Sky Next seems to mitigate the conflict between the TacPack DLL and couatl.exe AND KLAS works without coutl.exe crashing.

Terrain elevation problem solved by using FSGenesis Mesh, instead of FS Pilots Mesh, and disabling the mesh_terrain.bgl.

See some threads about this:

Doesn't happen here, and nobody reported this before. Not as a specific problem with KLAS, anyway. Could you please try the Couatl 3 Public Beta here, and see if makes any difference ?

Thanks Umberto.
Is the attached fix from Alessandro's post included in the latest KLAS installer or not?

Regarding the Couatl crashes, if I disable the VRS Tacpack.dll, then Couatl runs ok, so it appears to be a conflict between the two. Is it possible that you can provide a fix for this?
I will ask VRS if they can look into it too, see post.

Hi to all,

Please replace the original files on Klas scenery with this one (backup your original file first), the mesh is oversampled at 4M/pixel, rember to put Klas scenery above the mesh scenery on FSX library.

Regards.

Sure, that post was from 2009, so that file was included in the installer shortly thereafter.

Couatl surely doesn't have anything to do with this, because it doesn't try to read the terrain, which is something I suspect the VRS software might be doing, in order to simulate a ground radar.

Perhaps, what's really happening, is the Tacpack.dll module is crashing at KLAS precisely because of the mesh we added to fix the plateau effect, which is fairly hires, in order to "win" against any 3rd party mesh, and this crash of the Tacpack.dll is bringing down Couatl too for some reason.

In fact, the problem with Tacpack.dll at KLAS was already reported here:

http://www.fsdreamteam.com/forum/index.php?topic=11810.0

And the only thing specific to KLAS, is that mesh, but otherwise it's fairly simple scenery, and doesn't use many Couatl features (like KLAX or CYVR, for example).

If the fix was included, then it didn't help me with FS Global mesh unfortunately.
I fixed the problem 99% by switching to FSGenesis mesh though.
There is a small part, maybe 1 US street block in size, behind the main terminals that floats above a sloped part of terrain mesh but that's all. Good enough to fly into and out of.

And this was a known issue, which was discussed in one of the thread I linked in my previous reply. This user doesn't even have FSDT KLAS installed, and he had the same problem:

I don't have KLAS (yet... is there a 2.0 in the works?), and have exactly the same issue.

You can reduce the problem by using the FTXVector Configurator tool to disable the AES for KLAS.

I think he was probably meaning "disable the AEC for KLAS", not AES...

That didn't work either but thank you for your time and help.
The problem, as you say, is not FSDT's but Pilot's, who need to fix their mesh.
