Out of Memory issues and potential remedies....
« on: April 17, 2015, 10:32:18 pm »
Okay i'm pretty sure someone, somewhere has posted this before but i can't explain this at all....About a week ago i was getting Prepar3d 2.5, OOM'S at FSDT KIAH with the Ifly 747 v2, aircraft heavy on VAS.   My OS is Win 7 64 Pro.   Did some research on cures for OOM issues.   Found 2 potential tweaks to maybe help fix OOM  issues.  One was the 4gb patch and the microsoft registry tweak to increase the size of the desktop heap.   First applied I applied the 4gb patch to Prepar 3D, The OOM'S decreased somewhat but stills getting some and therefore applied the Microsoft desktop heap size fix it tweak to the registry.  NO more OOM for now, seems to work.   ....I can't explain this at all but it works for me. I am curious if anyone else has tried this and has gotten a result too? Links for both below...

The 4GB patch is totally useless on FSX SP2 and P3D, since both executables are already compiled by default with the LARGADDRESSAWARE bit flag, so the patch is not doing anything other than setting a bit which was already set. The only sim that could benefit from that patch was FS9.
