Of course, as being discussed quite a bit these days, the latest version requires the VC++ 2013 runtimes instead of the 2005 used by the previous version so, if you never installed the runtimes before, you had to download them from Microsoft, but the updated Stand-Alone installer comes with them, and will install them automatically, which fixed the issue.
