Question about the effect of de-icing
« on: December 17, 2014, 07:09:48 pm »
Hi there.  I have a technical question.  We're working on integrating the FSCaptain de-icing procedures with those of GSX, to the extent possible.

Does the de-icing procedure in GSX actually remove any ice weight on the airplane by internally turning on structural de-icing?  And does it have any anti-icing effect by turning on that and perhaps the propeller de-icing behind the scenes after the player takes off?  Or is it a purely visual thing (the visuals are very nice)?

thanks

I think it's just a visual thing.

It's not just a visual thing.

The de-icers will turn On the FSX "Structural deice" command, which is not normally assigned to any key, and it will remove any ice that might have been formed on the airplane structure and might have an effect on the flight model.

We don't do an anti-icing simulation, like keeping the system on for a certain amount of time after take off, we of course considered doing it, but are in general a bit wary of touching plane systems that other products or the airplane gauge code might want to interact with too, so we took the approach of doing only a minimal interference.

We've about got it working and it's looking really good!   Can't wait for our customers to start enjoying this.

I'd like to make a small suggestion for improvement.  When you toggle on the structural de-ice "switch" in the background, first save the state it's in, then after you flick it on then set it back to where the pilot originally had it.  This will prevent confusion and possibly some support issues for you, and accomplish the ice clearing just as effectively.

Many thanks for your excellent product and support,
Dutch
