FSX ADE for JFK v2 V1.2
« on: May 29, 2014, 11:35:12 pm »
Has anyone got a tweaked ADE file for KJFK v2 for the latest version of this scenery? There are alot of AI traffic aircraft parked too far forward and in odd places so was hoping a Kennedy 'specialist' might have one to hand?

You should instead make a list, parking by parking, of what you believe are errors so, we can check, parking by parking, if they really are errors (and fix them in the official AFCAD, of course), or simply limitations of the AFCAD system in FSX.

For example, changing the parking radius would affect the type of AI that will be allowed to park on a certain spot, but it will also affect jetways, setting it too small might reject airplanes that were supposed to go there so they will be forced elsewhere, possibly even in remote areas, if there aren't any other spaces large enough, but setting it to the correct size, would have the jetway from the nearby parking moving instead of the correct one so, in this case, it's nothing that can be fixed, because there will be a problem one way or the other.

That was just an example, to indicate that something that might look like an "error" of the AFCAD, has been made intentionally, with sound reasons.

But please, make a list of the things you believe should be changed, and we'll have a look at it.

Okay, so i actually dont believe this is anything to do with your ADE, It just wouldnt make sense to have so many aircraft fluffing up their parking positions...but anyway here is what i get in FSX....Maybe ive missed a trick  ???

Let me add, also that i have only used your Kennedy airport in FSX. I did remove it some time ago just due to the frames side of things but i have reinstalled it this week and upon checking all was in place spotted this..

We'll check this. I only see a couple of AI placed a bit too ahead, but nothing serious, in the 1st and 3rd screenshot. I don't see any problems in your 2nd screenshot.

There are some overlapping wings there, but it's no big deal. The first thing I do with new scenery is tweak the afcad to suit my AI.

I would tweak the ADE too but i find certain sceneries will present errors with the display after compiling changes, Taxi2Gate and some of Aerosofts work do this which just puts me off even trying!

I use Airport Design Editor 9X to make changes with radius sizes and airline codes for parking...

Also screen 2 shows a Delta 767 squeezed in right at the top of a very narrow gate position...there are instances all over the ADE for JFK where heavies park really far forward including American Airlines and British Airways stands which are not included in the pics...

That's the problem, there's no real perfect solution. Umberto could fix the parking spot locations and sizes for you to your liking but it might  then not work so well for anyone else. As you're well aware from spending time at AIG, not every AI model is setup to use accurate parking radius or code for that matter. Best options really are to wait for someone to upload or share their work and hope that it works better in your setup or start tweaking it on your own.

Also can you confirm if the scenery is meant to look this way in terms of the bridges and roads underneath...they all look this way

Well, that's how it looks. I agree that's something we should improve, but it's not really a bug or an anomaly: it's just that we haven't remade the ground texture in that specific place when switching from JFK V1 ( that didn't had 3d taxiways ) to JFK V2.

Ok no problem just wanted to be sure.  ;)

Im going to try AFX instead of ADE9X to edit parking spots. I am 99.9% certain that this 'KJFK_FSDT' file is the one i should open and then compile onces changes have been made right?

Yes, but keep in mind the AFCAD will always be automatically downloaded online when installing JFK or doing a Live Update. Of course, a backup of your file will be made ( with time and date of the backup ), so there's no risk losing your changes, but you should be aware of this.

I have saved both updated files. A few LAST things and then im done with the questions...

At JFKv2 all AI aircraft have their wheels sunk into the ground, now i think i read somewhere this was to avoid flickering? But i haven't seen this before in any other scenery so i wanted to confirm that...

Also i read somewhere Geneva was due an update is this right?

Basically yes, to avoid flickering and keeping the ground 100% native FSX, which saves the fps.

It's the same for all our other recent sceneries (KDFW, KLAX and CYVR) . There aren't many other 100% native FSX sceneries out there...

That's not one the highest priority to be updated. The next one getting a remake like JFK V2 will likely be KLAS.
