Hornet ILS works at airports but not on carriers???
« on: December 26, 2010, 04:01:16 am »
I have FSX with the Acceleration pack. I also have AICarriers2.

I am using the NEW Realistic HUD.

I am able to connect and land using ILS at any airport but when I go to do so on any carrier it does not work (both default fsx & Javier's carriers).

I am using freq's 111.00 for defaults and 112.00 for Javier's. The cross-hairs are there but no beeps, no turns when it should and no landings?

I've been trying to figure it out for a few weeks now and give up.

ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

A detailed explanation to your query would, I guess, be beyond the scope of this post, and I would let J.R. take it on. But, let it suffice to say that "you cannot couple the 'Autopilot' to the 47X/57X that is available to you through the "New Realistic HUD"".

The ILS cross hairs & TCN DME available to us through this addon mod is just another 'landing/approach aid'. These frequencies are hard coded into the New Realistic HUD and are not coded into the Carrier, and that is the reason, that you cannot use it with autopilot.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply.

The thing that I don't understand is that I have viewed videos on youtube of others using it successfully. Are you saying that ti will not be possible to ILS to a carrier?

Otherwise, what would I need to do to make it work?

THANKS!

Oh, I think you got me wrong.

You CAN ILS to the carrier. But, when I say this, what I mean is that you will get the ILS cross hairs in your HUD while you make an approach to the carrier (Default or Javier). You will also get DME information. With all this information available, you can manually fly the aeroplane to the deck (as in, YOU control the speed, descent, AoA, attitude etc).

However, you will not be able to 'Couple' (using CPL mode) this TCN/ILS info to the autopilot of hornet and make automatic approaches.

If you have already seen youtube videos of people using 'New Realistic HUD' to make automatic carrier traps, that would really be news to me. The only way (I haven't done it, so I won't be sure) anyone could CPL the carrier ILS to autopilot would be, if you use a scenery carrier (static carrier). But, not on AICarriers boats.

There are other specialists on this forum (Orion, Neutrino, FSXNP, Sludge, Razgriz to name a few), who would probably provide you with more information. I am only telling you what I know about how the new HUD works. I may of-course be incorrect.

It's Christmas, so people are probably busy with their real lives. Just hang on, and someone more authoritative on this subject will provide you a clearer picture on the subject.
