Title: Runtime error
Post by: robertorizzo on March 29, 2012, 09:54:43 pm
After installing Microsoft Security Essentials in my Vista 64 and some windows updates, now i'm getting this message and Couatl ends.

RUNTIME ERROR
Couatl.exe has requested the Runtine to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support for more infos.

Any way to fix it?

Thanks. Roberto.

Removed the two 2005 files (I still have 7 visual C++ 2008 and 1 2010) I had and installed vcredist_x64 and _x86, it doesn't let me install vcredist_IA64 since it says my processor ...something.
I did not run windows update since it was the last thing I did before this issue with couatl.
But still i get that message and just after loading the plane couatls ends with the runtime error i posted above. Should I reinstall gsx?

It seems you have a problem with audio drivers, what crashed it's NOT Couatl, but the OpenAL .DLL we supply with it, with we don't write, it's the standard OpenAL redistributable wrapper.

Try this OpenAl download from Creative:

http://connect.creativelabs.com/openal/Downloads/oalinst.zip

If doesn't work, try to reinstall GSX. If still doesn't work, try to check your audio drivers for updates. Sometimes it's best to use the audio card manufacturer drivers, but sometimes it's best to use the default Windows drivers. Try in both ways.

Downloaded openAl from creative. didn't work, then reinstalled gsx, didn't work, then updated the audio drivers from Asus Mainboard support, still the same error and still the same report:

Please help.

As I've said, it's not certain the audio drivers from the board manufacturer are the best choice. Try to remove them, and use the default Windows driver.

Wait.
I disabled every protection from Microsoft Security Essentials, no firewall, no malware protection, no anything protecting else, now i have only red lines and....GSX works again.
Now I must look very close one by one to know which is the problem.

I don't see why, after I've clearly said it's a problem of the audio drivers, you are touching the security settings, as if they had anything to do with audio.

As I've said in my last message, try to uninstall the mainboard specific audio drivers, and use the default Windows ones.

Funny thing. I have the same problem.

I basically did everthing the forum said from creating a new account and running fsx and gsx to removing sound drivers, reinstalling C++'s, reinstalling OpenAL, etc and it still doesnt work.

Ive already spent about a week and a a half doing nothing except figuring this problem out.

I noticed that when GSX is installed and FSX is opened, the error message pops up and i guess the GSX folder gets deleted in the fsdreamteam folder in the fsx folder. so what else can we all do. i cant think of anything else here.

Are you sure GSX isnt bugged?? Or maybe there was something in the latest update that doesnt work well with the C++'s??

You shouldn't post twice on the same issue, which was of course discussed here. That's why your duplicate message has been removed. It's only more confusing for us and for other user opening a new thread about a problem which was already discussed.

As explained above, the problems in your system that might cause this could be several.

FIRST, we should know WHAT really crashed, and to do this, as explained on other threads, you have to use the Windows Event Viewer, located under the Administrative Tools section of the Windows Control Panel, and look in the Application Log, for errors related to FSX.EXE or COUATL.EXE. Any such event should have details about what really crashed, post it here so we can see what's wrong with your system.

i opened up the event viewer. i came across both FSX.EXE. and COUATL.EXE errors.

Then why you haven't posted the error, as asked in my previous message ?

If that wasnt posting the error then what do i say? Im not too sure how to handle that program you told me to use by the way.

If that wasnt posting the error then what do i say?

You only posted your error in your first message, but that's not what I've asked, my later reply was:

THIS is what I've asked to post. The above sentence includes all the information you need to use the Windows Event Viewer, just do as I've said, don't care about the other parts of that program.

Don't post twice about the same issue in two different threads, I've replied to you in the other one. Your problem is related to your audio drivers, look the other thread and reply there, only.

Virtuali: I forgot to mention that i reinstalled windows (7) and gsx was working perfectly fine

Pertaining to the windows event viewer, what do i do now that i know FSX.EXE and COUATL.EXE errors show up?
