-
AMAZING!!!!! I cannot wait much longer for KLAX. ;D
-
WOW...the new International Terminal completed! Seems it's still under construction, at least on 6/24 when I visited the airport! :o
BTW how did you get the data on the new terminal, looks great...Darryl
-
A marvel. But did we see night shots already ? I don't remember.

Is it just me, or is the area, west of the terminals a little sparse/empty? ???
(the area in question, is visible in pic #04)
As far as I can recall, there's some 'satellite-terminals' - and some buildings... I don't know - it could be the angle...
Anyway - I hope someone could shed some light on it...
The airport looks very nice indeed! Can't wait for this one... ;)

That area it's not done yet. The scenery will include every building inside the airport perimeter, but when it's released, and it hasn't, yet.

Right! Thanks alot for clarifying, Umberto! :)

Umberto, could you please shed some light on TBIT? Will it be modeled in its current shape or with future expansion buildings?

It wil be done as it's expected to be at the end of 2012, with the whole west section completed.

I'm lovin it :)

Indeed. Still a long way to go yet. For those who dont know LAX: The project still needs the the Imperial Cargo Complex. The entire east cargo section yet to be completed. The Century Bvld. Cargo buildings and fire house. The UA and old DL hangar area & gates. The midfield hangars, AA,CO,FX, fuel tank area, Coast Guard, Flying Tigers (LAWA) building, LSG building, remote gates. And may I assume the airport hotels on Century will be completed as well as the Direct TV, Boeing, and Reytheon buildings on the South side with 405 fwy? This was done in the old FS9 version. Perhaps an August release? Looking beautiful.
I am looking for errors but not many pictutres here to go on...

Well, it's looking wonderful and I know that if the "Dreamteam" makes an airport, I'm going to buy it because theirs are always the best by far. My only problem now is what do I do with the payware airports that I'm uninstalling to be replaced with FSDT airports?
1. A yard sale
2. A trade-in program sponsored by FSDT (hint)
3. Convert them and use them in X-Plane
Any suggestions?

Yes, uninstall them, store them on a hard drive, or trash them. Although, converting to Xplane may not be a bad idea. As C9 KLAX may very well be the most detailed scenery Xplane will ever see... :D

Wow that is absolutely incredible! Great work guys! Can't wait.

Looking really good guys :) My only question is, whats the big, new structure in image #4 thats on the landside of the airport in front of the TBIT where there are parking garages now? Didn't read about it in the construction plans, would be happy to learn about it!
Do you guys think that you will continue to update the airport after the east side of the new TBIT is completed?

Wow!! Stunning! Simply stunning! Just out of curiosity, does anyone know what those "satellite terminals" are on the west side of the airport? Are they for charters, or overflow? And then, I'm assuming they lead underground somewhere, or are they taken by buses? Just curious.

Those are the remote gates (the offical term) They are used for several resons. Mainly, for like you said, overflow and charter. Usually only airlines serving the international terminal use these gates. They are also used for day parking for longhaul flights from Asia that sit for several hours before turn around. Airforce One and related military aircraft park out there as well when the President is in town.
When flights are delayed they will be towed out there due to much needed space at the terminal. I am not sure if we are keeping them once the new terminal is complete. Oh and pax get there by airfield bus.

It looks....wow. I'm ready with my VISA card ;)

Very interesting indeed... Thanks for that clarification, newmanix! :)
I remember I boarded our Air France flight from those terminals... we were picked up by (several) buses, and transported half-way across the airport...
The reason for that - I believe - (and that the flight couldn't leave from the terminal/gate (T2?)) was a 4-hour delay from Paris, due to bad weather... That we then, caught up with the weather in Copenhagen, is another story! ;)

Yeah. That sounds about right. When flights are delayed and inbound aircraft need the gate, they get the boot the remotes. It's a total pain in the ass because the tugs are very slow. Limited to 5mph so it takes bags forever to get out there and delay the flight even more. When I was a Duty Manager for Qantas a few years back, we dreaded the remotes which why we used/use T4 and TBIT.

Nice. Could I request that the next preview have some night lighting shots too?

Okay this is amazing, BUT I am in the EU vacationing, and I am still visiting your website even though its 85 degrees outside in the mediterranean sea!!!!!!!!!! June has only 3 days left:(
-
Looking at the pictures, I seriously doubt, that it would be a june-release - or even in july? As someone in here mentioned before, there's still quite a bit to do - so IMHO I think august is looking more of a possibility...
Hang in there... it's gonna be awesome! :)
-
aoaoh come on. YOu're just killing me. no, no, better. I am going to kill myself ! ;)
Jeez, why not a release in september ?? If so, it will just take FSDT a year to finish this airport...
I don't understand anything anymore. And you (FSDT) have a full time working team ??

Yes, we have a full time working team, and it IS working full time on KLAX. The issue is, this scenery is really unique and the time taken to do it WILL SHOW instantly. KDFW was ALREADY a top-notch scenery, which used solutions unequalled by anyone else, and gave extremely good performances and good looks too, for an airport of such size. We might have been satisfied with it, and just monetize the experience, by doing exactly the same at KLAX.
Instead, we raised the bar again by several notches, which means KLAX will made any other big airport scenery out there looking outdated, including KDFW. The screenshots posted don't give the faintest idea how much better the scenery is compared to the old generation, it's almost as if we have a new sim running, and it has to be seen live to realize this. And wait until you'll see the first night shot, because they are going to be like nothing else.
We are quite sure the quality gap is to be so large, than it's worth waiting, because everyone would want to have it once it's out.
We were discussing release dates because we initially planned to re-use some of the old 3d buildings (re-textured, of course) we made for the Cloud9 version, at least for the peripheral section of the airport (Cargo, etc.). We tried that and, decided to redo everything from scratch: the difference in quality of the new stuff was so large, than the old stuff throw in didn't really fit well. So, the whole scenery, down to the least significant small building, will be made with the same attention of the main terminals. This means release date will slip, but it's still something we anticipate to do this Summer.

Thanks you Umberto its always very interesting when you speak about scenery development, I noticed the buildings in klax have bump mapping and the textures look amazing, I'm very much looking forward to some of night shots when ever you guys have time. to me airports at night are tricky in the sense since working myself years ago as ramp personal myself, some airports at night are very very dark. so in fsx I feel developers have to play around with the lighting for it too look very good in the sim, but lighting is very important to the atmosphere of the whole scenery and realism.

Umberto, you are killing me! (http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c255/VORJAB/faint.gif)
If it turns out to be true (which I am rather sure when the words come from you), I'm thrilled to think what to expect.
I am aware many of the mentioned jawdroppers will be for FSX only but I am 100% positive even the FS9 version is going to be smashing.

Its great that FSDT has been able to raise the bar on realism once again :) There's nothing wrong with waiting a bit longer for a superior product. ;)

No, within a couple hundred feet of the north runway approach. In fact the approach lights are located 20-30 feet outside the park boundaries.

Umberto, that is amazing. :o :o
Thanks for the update. I look forward to being blown away.
VERY excited for KLAX.

Umberto, do you need close up shots of this building? I notice you left it out. Also let me know if you need closeups of the TSA baggage screening tower on the north side of TBIT.
EDIT: Took this with my iPhone this morning. Hope it helps. Also note the surrounding area.
-
Also the wrong tipe of trees were used, and the area is sunken below the ramp with bridges going over it. This area will not be filled in for obvious reasons.

The utility plant renovation project and T6 renovation project started.

I just came back from there for the annual ZLA dinner we VATSIM guys put on. Comparing the shots to what is going on there, this is SPOT ON. The only thing missing is Los Angeles Air Force Base![1][2] :P
BL.
[1] Yes, there is really a Los Angeles AFB.
[2] Don't add it. 1: you don't need it; 2: you don't want it.
-
1: you don't need it; 2: you don't want it.
If the AFB shares runways with LAX, like the one at HNL, it should be included.
-
There is no AFB at LAX. You will see military aircraft there which is VERY rare, but when you do, it's usually C-5's and C-17's. They park at the remore area.
The only military aircraft you will see there every day on the hour are the Coastguard dolfins...
-
The military base is around a mile away from LAX and is basically a large office complex that controls the USAF's Space Defense (satellites), etc

There is no AFB in LAX.
There is a USAF office or building complex in El Segundo. No runway...no tower.
The nearest Air Base in LAX is the US Navy missile test center in Point Mugu.

Okay, to set things straight: at LAX Airport, there is no Air Force Base. There IS an Air Force Base just south of the LAX Airport in El Segundo. Just because there isn't a runway or a tower, doesn't mean it cannot be an Air Force Base. Yes, it is essentially just a building or two but it IS an Air Force Base.
Here is the website:
www.losangeles.af.mil/
-
LAX does not have an Air Force base.
Correct, but apparently there is one just south of it.
-
Hello,
I used to work at the Air Force Base. It's called the Los Angeles Air Force Base not LAX Air Force Base. It is a Research and Development facility and it resembles more of a University/Corporate campus than it does an Air Force Base. I think the place has as more civilian researchers and contractors working there than it does military personnel and the only aircraft you'll see there are the helicopters that fly in the VIPs. But if you want to put it in your scenery that would be great but be careful when you take pictures, I've seen security/snipers at the roof tops. ;D
-
A really bad attempt at a panorama I took today...

Cheers! ;)

This is a new tendency and I like it! So much care, detail and innovation goes into flightsim products today! I remember the old days were there were years between quality products, and the low end was REALLY low end.
Thank you for what you are giving us by selling us your products ;)
