Thanks Orion. I am away from my machine for a couple of weeks but will definitely fly your mission when I come back to the US of A.

Thanks Orion!

I tried out the mission last night and it worked like a charm  ;) I was never able to get SF2 to work, so I am happy the NATOPS mission is working so I can hopefully fly some multi's. Do you guys still use skype or ventrillo?

Couple questions on the mission:

1. Is there a tanker in the air like the SF2 mission, or plans to add a tanker? a KC-135 (freeware updated by Sludge) would be awesome in the delta pattern
2. I adjusted javier's carrier speed in the sim.cfg file, will this affect the NATOPS mission? What speed should I use?
3. I thought I heard the PLAT camera cross hairs and data (numbers shown on the display e.g. wind, carrier #,) were updated, was this included in your mission?

Cheers,
Capt

Thanks guys.

Capt:

What was wrong with the original SF Carrier 2 mission?  Thought you had it working, at some point anyways.

I haven't been flying much recently, but I still use Skype if you'd like to contact me.

1. No, and no.  This is somewhat stripped down compared to SF Carrier 2, due to time constraints (wanted to get it out as soon as possible), and from when I flew, I found that not many people ever went to the tanker anyways.  Although, someone in the session is still free to fly their own plane, while others use J.R.'s In Flight Refueling gauge to refuel.

2. As long as the max speed (MPH) is greater than or equal to 35 MPH, and you didn't change the acceleration or deceleration constants, everything should be alright, I think.  The worst that could happen is that your carrier would slowly get out of sync.  For the record, in case anyone wants to know the default values, you should have this in your USS_NIMITZ sim.cfg:

[DesignSpecs]
max_speed_mph = 50
acceleration_constants = 0.07, 0.07               //Time constant (effects responsiveness), and max acceleration (Gs)
deceleration_constants = 0.05, 0.05               //Time constant (effects responsiveness), and max acceleration (Gs)

3. Nope, the PLAT camera wasn't updated, to my knowledge anyways.  Well, not to the extent that was being talked about.  The PLAT Camera included in the Combat Hornet, SF Carrier 2.5 (updater and PLAT Camera Utility) and San Diego NATOPS Carrier Mission installer all have a working windspeed indicator (that wasn't present in the original release).

Orion,

I never could figure out what happened to SF2, it used to work, but now when I load in multi or private the load bar gets to 100% then crashes FSX. It is probably something I did on my end, but no amount of uninstalls and reinstalls cleared the issue.

1. No worries, guess we can tank off each other or in the hanger.
2. Thanks, I will check these numbers against mine.
3. I tried looking for the post, couldn't find it. Thought Raz or Sludge mentioned a reworked PLAT cam display (thinner crosshair lines, realistic data) somewhere on this forum.

Cheers,
Capt

Capt:

Crash?  As in a crash to desktop?  If so, can you go to the event viewer, find the event where FSX crashed as a result of loading the mission, and tell me the faulting module?  Does it still occur when using my SF Carrier 2.5 update?

1. No lower deck refueling, either, sorry.
2. No problem :).
3. Eh.

no dice with SF 2.5  ???

Here is the event viewer error description for the CTD from FSX:
Faulting application fsx.exe, version 10.0.61637.0, faulting module terrain.dll, version 10.0.61637.0, fault address 0x00056ab6.

Do you have scenery packs/addons near San Fran?

Define 'near'? I have a NAS Fallon scenery add-on, could that be it?

Try lowering your settings.  I've read that flight sim will throw you a CTD citing terrain.dll when running out of memory.  Since San Francisco is a "detailed city" in FS, you may be running out of memory due to the extra load.

Also, have you modified the default 737 in any way shape or form?

Orion, the B737 might be it!

I removed all aircraft from my FSX simobjects folder that I don't fly, including the B737  :-[, so I will try putting the B737 back see if that helps.

Oh yeah, well, there you go. :P

If you don't want it to appear in your aircraft selection list, in the aircraft.cfg, you can add panel=blah or something for each repaint there is, and it won't show.  With the missing panel, in theory, it should still work as AI.  I'm not sure if it'll still work as mission AI, though.

orion:

1. is it possible to use the VRS rhino for this mission?
2. can i fly this mission in Single player?
3. is it possible to use the plat camera outside this mission? i.e. adding javiers nimitz through aicarriers2 in SP
4. does it have aerial refueling, or you have any aerial refueling missions?

thanks in advance

1. Yes, you can change your aircraft once you're in the session lobby.  Refer to the SF Carrier 2 PDF documentation for instructions on changing aircraft in a multiplayer mission.
2. No, but you can log into your LAN instead of GameSpy and fly the mission there, which will be effectively single player.
3. No.
4. No, the San Diego NATOPS Carrier Mission does not include refueling.  SF Carrier 2 (and 2.5) provides an AI Boeing 737 which you can refuel from by flying in close proximity behind the aircraft.  If you would like to refuel from other players in a multiplayer session, or from an AI aircraft in single player, you can use J.R.'s In-Flight Refueling Gauge.

Fael...

1.  Im guessing you can select any aircraft you want for this mission.  Just be warned if you select something (say the VRS), EVERYONE has to have it.  Otherwise strange things will happen.  Ull stay the same but if others have a default Hornet, they will revert back to the Blues paint and back and forth.

2.  I dont think its a single player mission, but you can simply load it on startup and not broadcast it or dont allow others to enter and it ends up being a single player.

3.  Not sure, definately have to ask Orion.

4.  No aerial refueling.  When I asked Orion to alter his mission, I specifically asked (and he delivered) no refueling planes, since we came up with multiples and other errors.  Also, the flight path would be weird, since to keep the WoD (wind over deck) component, the carrier course (~250 deg) and wind direction (~238 deg) have to be steady.  This makes pattern work much more consistent with real world carrier patterns.

Hope that helps a little

Fellas...

Thinking about sometime around 2-3pm Central Time (zulu -6).  Let me know what youre up for.  Maybe just get on Skype and fire up the new mission.  No carrier patterns or rules, just see if we can all get on without errors and go from there?

Additionally, for those of you that dont have the Sludge Hornet and Combat Hornet integrated... I talked to JR tonite and he said it was time to let her rip.  So Ill be working this weekend to get an integrated Sludge/Combat Hornet installer out there.  Ill also try to talk to Serge about letting me include the Centennial paint on the integration.

As well, I've done some tweaking on the Sludge this week.  I think you'll like the subtle changes.  And, IF I CAN GET FRAPS WORKING, Ill show you an easy Pirouette.  Its such a great reversal.
