Title: Couatl GSX Launches but doesn't close normally **SOLVED, not a GSX problem**
Post by: Hawk on June 24, 2022, 03:20:36 am
I just started having an issue with the inability to exit the custom vehicle location editor using the "Y" key.   When I launch "Customize Airport Position", Couatl launches normally and I see the green Couatl icon in my task bar.  Once in that menu I select the "Customize Vehicle Location" option and that module launches and places the SIM in SLEW mode with the editor functional but the green Couatl icon disappears from the task bar.  After making changes to various object positions I then press the "Y" key and the SIM exits SLEW mode, but the remains in the object editor mode.  The only way to exit the editor is to click on the main P3D/Add-ons menu and re-select the GSX option to "Customize Airport Positions" again.  This places me back at the "Customize Airport Position" page, where I can exit normally.  It also returns the green Couatl icon to my task bar.  Exiting this way seems to save any edited position changes made in the editor.  I also noticed that leading up to this issue I was seeing messages stating that there multiple instances of Couatl running. I tried updating GSX/Couatl.  I did a cold boot and updated GSX using the Universal Installer, then re-booted again but it made no difference.  I have never encountered this behavior before.  Can you suggest anything to me to regain normal function?  BTW, I did install a new aircraft recently (VRS FA-18) and a carrier add-on f(rom SimWorksStudios).  I think I saw the Couatl installer open during one of those installation processes however I uninstalled them and still have not regained normal functionality.

You title is not accurate, because it seems you haven't understood the explanation I gave you in the other thread so, let's do it again:

When I launch "Customize Airport Position", Couatl launches normally and I see the green Couatl icon in my task bar.

Ok, I understand where your confusing came from. You assumed that Couatl started with the editor, because you saw the icon appear in the Taskbar and you assumed it was supposed to exit because the icon disappears. That's not the case, Couatl didn't started at that time and didn't exit at that time, and it was never supposed to "exit". The icon you see is NOT the icon of the program itself, it's the icon of the editor Dialog, which happens to be the same as the Couatl program (because it belongs to it), but it doesn't indicate in any way the running status of the couatl program ITSELF.

The one and only way for you to know if Couatl started ( when starting the sim ) or Exited ( when closing the sim ), is checking the Task Manager, that will tell you about the Couatl program ITSELF.

Couatl is ONLY supposed to start when the sim starts, and it's ONLY supposed to Exit when the sim closes.

After I finish with adjustments I press "Y" to Exit and nothing happens.  I remain in the edit mode but no longer in Slew.

So your problem is not the Couatl is not exiting, since at that time is not supposed to exit, but some kind of error must have happened when you pressed the Y key to return to the dialog.

If you have logging enabled in the GSX Settings, exit the sim immediately as soon you see the editor "stuck" the way you describe, and see if there's a log there.

Thanks.  I will create a log to see if anything is obvious.

I attached my log but don't know what I am looking for.  I launched GSX as described in my first post and then I attempted to exit using the "Y" key.  At this point I exited the SIM.  I did not attempt to edit any object positions.  Thank you in advance.  I know you are very busy.

You said your problem happened only when you enter the editor, but fail to exit. But your log shows you just warped to a Gate, open the menu and quit the sim, without ever opening the editor so, if any error would have happened in the editor, it's not there.

As I've said, exit the sim immediately as soon you see the editor "stuck" the way you described, and see if there's a log there.

Since I always backup my P3d config and ini files with Lorby, I restored my last version prior to the recent installs and the issue went away and now everything is fine.  This issue is resolved.  I think something got corrupted.  Thanks for your input.

I pinpointed the incompatibility.  As I said in my June 24, 2022, 03:20:36 a post, I had installed F/A-18 Superbug aircraft add-on and the TacPack add-on that is required to go with it (both by VRS).  After removal and restoration of my old ".ini" and config files things worked normally.  When I re-installed them, my issue returned. I was able to reproduce this multiple times through a series of install and uninstall of those two addons.  I will contact the software manufacturer to see if they can come out with a patch that prevents this incompatibility.  Their software is P3D Version specific, therefore I do not know if the same thing happens with P3d V4+ or earlier versions, but it definitely happened with V5+.  Anyone else having this same issue, I hope this post is useful to you.
