Title: GSX Level 2 TUTORIAL - Replace Jetways on a 3rd party airport.
Post by: virtuali on September 07, 2018, 05:09:20 pm
Here's a video tutorial, explaining how to replace Jetways on an airport (FlyTampa EHAM) that doesn't originally comes with SODE Jetways:

Do we have to do this for every single stand, within every single airport we fly to? (including the sim restarts?)

Do we have to do this for every single stand, within every single airport we fly to? (including the sim restarts?)

This has been asked so many times on the forum and, of course, is explained in the manual. EVERY setting you change on the airport customization page can be applied to a single parking stand, to several of them, to an entire terminal, or even to the whole airport in one click, depending how many gates you selected on the left side of the screen.

So no, you don't have to do for every single stand, it really depends how much precision you want. There are airports that have different jetway models on each parking. You CAN do that, but you don't HAVE to.

Yes, of course you must do it for every airport, and you must explicitly tell GSX to do that. While we automatically replace all default jetways in one go, it would be very wrong if we replaced jetways automatically at 3rd party airports, users and scenery designer would rightly complain if we did something like this

So no, it must be done under your control, and only in the way we did it: by means of airport customization + Exclude files, which means leaving the original scenery UNTOUCHED, and very easy to go back to its default configuration.

Sorry, but the tutorial does not explain how to change all jetways at the same terminal. What do you mean with "left side of the screen"?
Could you specify where we can do this?

Also, in one of the previous, you mentioned we can edit the logos for the jetways (with own images). Is this possible?

The tree-like structure on the left side of the parking customization window, allows multiple selection.

Standard windows here: CTRL+Click select multiple parkings, and if you click on a "root", like a terminal, it will select all gates in that terminal. If you click the airport itself (the topmost root node), it will select all parkings at once.

GSX always worked like this since it was released.

One more little question: my AI docks at default and SODE jetways. But when I make these GSX jetways, AI does not dock anymore. Is this expected behaviour?

Yes. GSX always worked on the user parking. No difference here.

Having all jetway animated will kill both the frame rate (the static jetway is MUCH faster than the animated one) AND will disrupt the whole simulation by spamming Simconnect with so many commands required to keep track and control even AI in addition to the user airplane.

So, after some troubleshooting I am able to add the new jetway, but the old one will not get removed after excluding it and restarting the sim.

@skyrat77

i had the same issue.

check under C:\Users\yourName\Documents\Prepar3D v4 Add-ons

There must be a Folder named "FsDreamTeam Exclude"

In my case this Folder was emty. The add-on.xml was missing.

You can create one via lorby addon organizer.

please GSX team the crew bus should be activated manually

that would be more realistic, in reality he does not come with every boarding and deboarding

I give up!
I tried to replace de BGL jetways from Aerosoft Zurich in P3DV4 and the following is happening:
I can click on the exclude button and can add my jetways, which I choose from the menu. After that, i quit and run the GSX2 exclude program, i restart P3D and voila, the Sode jetways have disappeared. I once again try to choose the jetway model, it reappears but when I choose to dock it, it says, there is only a default jetway. I go back in the settings menu, rechoose the jetway and edit it. I press the numeric 5 in the editor but its not working. I quit P3D and relaunch everything and the jetways have disappeared.

I have used several hours on this issue, no chance to resolve it. I did a reinstall, I did run the FSDT Live Manager but still no luck.
Its not as easy as it seems to replace the jetways, I cannot enjoy GSX2 and this is very disappointing!!!

just replaced default jetways in Aerosoft LSZH with SODE jetways, with just a few clicks....after i picked up my jaw from the floor i spent the next few minutes admiring the incredibly detailed models and textures, there are even smear marks on the glass panels of the jetway bridge

The way its implemented and how easy it is to replace default jetways is simply mindblowing! And i didnt even test the PAX boarding yet

It's because he used *exactly* the SAME airport, the reason why I quoted it. Have you followed the tutorial in this very thread ?

Yes, I even deleted the exclude file to start from scratch again, but still no luck.
Should I delete the lszh file in the airport section of GSX to start from scratch this way?
Everytime I relaunch P3D the jetways, which I placed there, do not appear, an when I go in the GSX menu, I need to do the whole jetway thing again.
I have the feeling, that it doesn‘t safe it correctly.

Yes, it is. Depending how detailed you want to be. For a quick global replacement, you might get away with a single model at all gates but, of course, if you want to get the real benefits of SODE, you should check every parking and do it right.

Same problem here. The changes you make are not saving to P3D. You Have to start from Scratch every time you exit P3D.
Been trying to get this to work for hours and followed the tutorial video to the letter. Somethings not right and its driving me mad.
Hope someone comes up with a solution.

Do you see an .INI file for your airport in the %APPDATA%\Virtuali\GSX folder, as soon as you start customizing (after you press Apply, of course) ?

Do i understand this feature correctly that it's possible to replace jetways in any airport?

This could be example ORBX Stockholm Arlanda ESSA?

Thx..

I think you can only exclude the jetways if thev'e been designed separate to the terminal building. Orbx ESSA have only static jetways.  If theyr'e part of the building you cant exclude the jetway to add another.
Hope you can. Haven't checked it out yet. trying to sort problems at EGKK at the moment.

Yeah, I wish I would have known/realized that before I purchased. Not that I don’t think the product is good, but I was hoping to replace some static jetways and didn’t realize they weren’t replaceable.

Dear fsdt- team,

it doean't work for me. I watched your tutorial several times, it doesn't work for me:
I tried to replace the jetways once at FSDT EDDM, there is only gsx v1 active, you can't manage to choose new jetways, and animated passengers
Then I tried to replace the Jetways at EDDF v2 from aerosoft; it didn't work as well.

Please advice in easy words in a step by step menu, where to find which data and what exactly is to do, in order  to get this version 2 of GSX running.

Thanks a lot in advance,
Sascha

And second questions: is it technically possible to add custom jetway logos via Simobjects/Misc?

dear Team,
dear virtuali,

would you please advise people, who don't know to deal with bgls, xmls and data like this, in an easy manual, how to get GSX V 2 running.

I purchased GSX Level 2 expansion
after that, I run the "full gsx installer including level 2 expansion"
after that, I installed it
In the installation process, I registered SODE
Then I started P3d v4.3
I went to the addon manager
after that, I registeres gsx2 with its serial
then I went out from P3d and restarted it

I went to an airport, EDDM or FSDT EDDm for ex., but it din't work
What did I wrong?

If I ask for "boarding", there is still GSX 1 running. I don't see any moving passengers
Could you please advice in an "step by step manual", how to get this running?

Thanks in advance.
Sascha

Mmh somehow the LSGG jetways did not go in when I run the live update. Guess I have to reinstall.

Umberto; I tried to add jetway logos via the Simobjects/Misc folder and I edited some textute files as well. Is it technically possible for a user to add new logos? Or would it need deeper modifications to the GSX database which a user cant do?

Thanks for your reply

same problem to me, i did EXACTLY what the video tutorial does, step by step. the first time i tried this, it worked perfectly. I even loaded the plane and the passangers showed through the glass. then i restarted the sim, to see if everything was ok, and the jetaway had dissapeard. so i decided to reset the scenery using the reset button in the customize airoport positions.  started from scratch, as the video says. and now i can not get it to work. if i press the button 5 to chck if is ok, it does not do the "ding" sound and instead, there is a message saying: "the jetaway does not resolve with any door". Read the manual, and there is no tip on this message what so ever. is desesperating.

Umberto, I FOUND THE GLITCH! that everybody is complaing about, regarding message "the jetaway does not resolve with any door"... for some reason you have to, after reloading the sim after creating the exclusion, and configurating the jetaway, if you do not do a restart of the coatl, it does not work .. i did this and now when i press 5 it PINGS! LOL i tried to post this on the forum and there is no way it lets me, even with my user logged in. maybe you should post it. ONLY PROBLEM: You need to restart the coatl every time you enter a scenery.. even if you restart the sim. odd.

doesn't work for me. It isn't a "step by step manual for P3D v 4.3 users. I've no idea, where sceneries are located in, which should be excluded etc etc.
There should be a step by step manual, starting like this

1) first we install GSX...
2)
3)
4)

Hi.

I recently purchased GSX V2 but i have problems installing jetways. For example at Aerosoft EDDM the "Exclude.bgl" option is there and everything runs smoothly according to the tutorial.
However, at Fly Tampa's LOWW this option is not even there. That goes along for a lot more airports of different publishers. Am i missing something here?

And something new. After the latest update of GSX, at EDDM, the scenery jetways are not excluded, and the GSX jetways appear to stand in the air. They are not attached to the terminal building. What a mess.

The GSX manual + this video tutorial have already provided several users enough information for them, since they shared several customization files for 3rd party major airports already.

Dear Virtuali,
they should first explain how to install GSX 2, after that we could talk about how to customize jetways

1) I 've purchased GSX 2 vis FSDT website
2) then I've installed the "Full GSX installer" including "level 2 expansion"
3) them I registered SODE for p3dv4
4) then I went to the "Add on Manager" , put in the serial of GSX 2, it told me, GSX2 is active

--> First, please confirm steps 1 to 4 are right.

After that , I wanted to costomize parking position with new jetways, it didn't work

Sorry I don't know, how to deal with the exclude file, and where these files can be found
in C:\, in P3d- foler , etc.

For the moment pushback etc is working, but only as it was in gsx 1
could you please explain by writing a text....(not Videos etc), how to get GSX 2 to work...and where to find which data??

Thanks

Yes, of course they are.

Didn't work doesn't mean anything, if you don't say:

- Which airport you tried to customize. Which kind of jetway it use.

- Assuming the airport jetways CAN be customize( they not already SODE and not static embedded in the terminal) if you enabled the exclude area for the parking you want to customized,

Sorry I don't know, how to deal with the exclude file, and where these files can be found

Quoting the GSX manual, Page 45:

Quote
Location of the Exclude files

After installing GSX, a new Scenery Area will be created, pointing to the following folder:

Addon Manager\Exclude\Scenery

This folder will contain all the Exclude .BGLs that will be created by the Control Panel utility

Not that this is really a required information to customize jetways, since the Control Panel does all of that automatically so, it's not you have to manage exclude files yourself.

Okay thanks, I'll check later at home, and will give a feedback whether it worked or not.

I intended to customize Aerosoft V2 - EDDF , Gate A69 for example, or FSDT EDDM Gate 212 or 203.
All of them are heavy Gates.

Please Umberto, don't let us down, this is not working correctly. I had the same ilusion, created a whole new airport with more than 40 gates off the whole terminal1 of LEBL. it worked. then, i restarted the computer the next day WITHOUT having touched a thing, and sometimes, with the same plane on the same stand, you enter the aiport and no jetways are there, others they are but it says that no jetaways are found that can operate that gate, others, the GSX2 does not start properly since the option to configurate that airport on ctrl+shift+f12 is not there... I restart the coautl and sometimes it fixes this and others it doesnt, others you have to restart the coatl 5-6 times.  Is erratic. I myself was also under the dilusion that i have created a great airport with your gsx2, after hours of hard work, read the entire manual (yes i am one of those stranges), shared with some friends the necessary files in the addon manager and the AppData for them to have it working, and they have this same problems.  IS NOT FINISHED. and it clearly was not ready to be sold. This is ok, but PLEASE dont publish things like this because it means that for you the product is good and ready. IS NOT.  I will wait for an update that solves all this crazyness. Hope you take care of it. Thanks.

You missed my point, entirely. My reply was ONLY meant to say that, as far as explaining HOW to replace jetways on a 3rd party airport, the manual and this video provide more than enough to be able to do that.

It was made in reply to someone that seemed to ask for additional explanations.

This doesn't obviously mean the editor is "perfect" (no software is, not even years after release, let alone less than a week), and doesn't have any bugs.

Bugs are obviously being fixed, when they are properly reported. A "doesn't work" comment, is NOT a proper report.

A proper report is something like:

- I want to customize this scenery, made by this developer (if it's not default), which uses (for example), custom jetways.

- I opened the editor, and selected Gate XXX

- I checked the Exclude button, then change the jetway to be a YYYYYY model with an ZZZZZ livery and no bridge.

- When I chose the Sixt LOGO, the program crashed with the following blablablabla error, which I'm posting here as a reference.

THIS is an Example of a PROPER report, which can lead to a successful reproduction for us of the eventual bug. A reproducible bug, is already a bug that you can consider fixed.

This comment is not useful at all, without having a look at your file, what you did, how the original airport was made. If you could send me your .INI file, and tell which scenery you used (default ? 3rd party ? which one ? ), it might check if there's something wrong with it, that might LEAD to understand IF there's something wrong in the editor.

Also, are you sure you installed the current Live Update ? With the last update, we fixed a problem that affected UK2000, but I'm sure it would affect many other aiports, that caused exactly what you are reporting: Jetways seems to be saved, but they don't reappear on a restart. It should be fixed now.

The issue of jetways in the air has been discussed in so many other threads, and it doesn't have anything to do with this thread, which is a tutorial on how to replace jetways.

If you searched the forum, you would have know it's caused by OrbX vector, and can be fixed by disabling the airport in the AEC utility.

Do not get too upset when answering questions. Not all of us can read the whole forum. After all it is your job. You do not get paid just for the software but for support too.

On the parking customization screen there is an option that reads "jetway exclude radius" under the "ignore aircraft preferred exit". That exists when customizing parking positions at EDDM but not in LOWW as well as other airports too.

Have you activated GSX Level 2 ? If it's in Trial, you can use it only at EDDM and other 2 Trial airports + FSDT airports.

Well Umberto I will try my best to report better. i will make a video and attach the file that you request, can you be a bit more specific with the .ini file that you request from  me? the crazyness of restarting the coatl over and over again is happening with LEBL (Barcelona) AS 1.01. I am going to work in several sceneries to test them and report you the problems that i might find. i have done some, and they work on some and dont on others. i think i am familiar with the procedure. having said this, can you also tell us in a simple  note what files do we need to share with others, where are they located, and if we need to edit the files when sharing? i notice that the files in Appdata, have a route of the scenery. Since I had a lot of problems with LEBL and after finishing the large T1, it stopped working. Then i moved to Amsterdam since you do the video there and did only 4 gates. There i wanted to share with my other 2 friends who also purchased with me 2 liscenses and i assumed that i only need to share the appdata file (in EHAM is  Appdata\Roaming\Virtuali\GSX\eham-tzgdlo.CFG) and the ones in the addn mgr... a) Addon Manager\Fsdreamteam\Exclude\000_EHAM_GSX_JWEXCL and b) Addon Manager\Fsdreamteam\Exclude\scenery\000_EHAM_GSX_JWEXCL. this i tried and my friends do not ge the jetways in the designated areas.
Regards...
P.D. I attach LEBL files in here.. this is the airport that i mention that the behavior is very erratic and "sometimes" works after restarting the coatl several times.
As I say, starting tomorrow i am going to do a full installation of many airports, starting with 6 gates on each. and will write carefully the problems that i might have.
The latest version i installed and updated was thursday night. will do so again right now.
Cheers.

I do not think that i can do it better and this took me 3 hours.. Please let me know which .ini file you need (please be more specific, file name and loaction) and also all the files that are needed to share configurations with you or others (this last obviously, when i get it to work).

Another clue: GCLA - Aersoft v1.1. This scenery comes with 2 jetways (9 and 5), in this 2 i have to do exclusions. Gates 5 and 7 came with no jetways, thus i only added them. When i reload the sim, after updating the exclusions with your GSX2 control panel, the ones that were excluded do not show (pic1) and the ones added do. After restarting the coatl, the 4 jetways show, and all 4 are operational.

Umberto, i tried to solve the issues i have been reporting with GSX2.  I did a maintenance of P3D, executing the "Delete Generated Files" from the main directory.   EHAM, LEBL, EDDB, EDDF, GCLA are working. in one of them i had to restart the coatl and then it worked, but most of them started even with the gates into position. I then tried to add one gate into EDDB, using the create exception protocol and now is erratic again, and now the sceneries that were working ok after the delete generated files, start giving the same errors i here reported on the report attached In Barcelona en EDDB, "no jetaways can operate at this position".., see here: https://youtu.be/PY34aEmsfR4 (https://youtu.be/PY34aEmsfR4). i restart go again in LEBL and now it works. so really is a matter of luck. Erratic.*
i hope i dont have to do this every time i configurate an airport, since it can became an impossible ordeal to do.....  Can you please tell us the instructions on how to share airports modifications for GSX to other users please? files to copy and if any of then need to be modified, such as files paths and so on.

NOTE: If anybody is doing the same delete generated files, do not forget to backup the esential files in Appdata and ProgramData. Disk C:\ProgramData\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4 files:dll.xml, exe.xml, scenery.cfg, scenery.cfg.sce   AND in C:\Users\***you***AppData\Roaming\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4 files: Prepar3D, and Prepar3D.cfg.    ONCE you have executed DELETED GENERATED FILES.exe in the P3D main directory, replace the files in their folders as to not loose important configs.

Cheers
*solved ok, when you exit the simulator, even if you have not made any changes, you have to wait for he p3d to fully close, this usually takes 45 sec in my computer. (the best way to know is using your control  panel to see if it has finished closing). if you do this, it works now, specially after doing the delete generated files. Also, if I edit a jetway model (without touching the aready created exclusion), i get the same error, but if i exit the simultator, waiting for it to close properly, the issue solves. But the issue of having to restart the coatl several times in certain airports remains...However, in the case of UK2000 is crazy. yes, i have the latest version of GSX2. updated sund16th. it doesnt work. it loses configurations, it tells you you have default jetways, etc. see here: https://youtu.be/8rOX8ylWy4s (https://youtu.be/8rOX8ylWy4s)
Umberto, please, give us instructions on how to share airports configs, (files, which need to be edited, folder locations, etc) thanks.

Hi,

Just one question : the exclude bgl is compiled in the \exclude\scenery.
Where shall I put it after, in the airport scenery directiry?
I could not find the answer in the documentation.

Question. How to go about replacing or should I say auto excluding static jetways (can’t use CTRL+J) but were modeled separately as a .BGL file using the exclusion tool and edit mode ?

Because my static gates still appear after loading the sim. I have to resort to finding the corresponding .Bgl and removing it from the folder.  Or making it a .Off file.

What do you mean with "left side of the screen"?
Could you specify where we can do this?

The tree-like structure on the left side of the parking customization window, allows multiple selection.

Standard windows here: CTRL+Click select multiple parkings, and if you click on a "root", like a terminal, it will select all gates in that terminal. If you click the airport itself (the topmost root node), it will select all parkings at once.

GSX always worked like this since it was released.
Balearic Islands. Aerosoft-Simwings v1.00 (latest)
LEIB-Ibiza. ok
LEMH-Menorca.Yesterday did, today withouth having touched a thing, "Jetways can not operate in this position" See video:https://youtu.be/HMEoxh2m8R8. Also files attached
LEPA- Palma de Mallorca: using the same method of exclusions and configurating 5 jetaways 50-58, GSX2 not working. see video:

Config files attached.

As you can see in your screenshot, the scenery ALREADY comes with SODE jetways, which GSX correctly identified and, as explained in the manual, they cannot be customized. Quoting from the manual, Page 4:

Quote
On a 3rd party airports that use SODE jetways, GSX Level 2 will never interfere with them but, if the base GSX is purchased, they can be operated from the GSX menu.

And from our product announcement on the forum:

http://www.fsdreamteam.com/forum/index.php/topic,17940.0.html

Quote
if your addon airport already use SODE jetways, we won't touch it, assuming a developer who made the effort to support SODE, already did jetways in the best possible way so, we won't allow customization of these sceneries.

I tried in my airport to put a jetways and it stays there but it does not move

Have you tested it while editing it ?
Hi Umberto,
I cant seem to get an answer from you to the many errors, that i got. i managed t fix most of the issues. it had to do mostly with uninstalling ALL GSX products reinstalling full, and cleaning the p3d (delete generated files), and cleaning the shaders.

Can you please clarify if i share a scnery configuration with a friend, in an airport WITH exclusions, what files do i neet to share? the INI, BGL and CFG from the appdata and addon manager folder? thanks.

You have some choices:

- Share JUST the .INI file in %APPDATA%\Virtuali\GSX, and tell your friend to place it in that folder and do THIS:

http://www.fsdreamteam.com/forum/index.php/topic,18620.msg131209.html#msg131209

Quote
The parking customization can recreate the XML automatically from the .INI file. This can be done by opening the parking customization for that airport, and deselect/select any one parking that had the Exclude checkmark set. You can do it by changing anything else, but this is the easiest one and the easiest to remember. This will trigger the parking editor to create the Exclude XML, which can be then compiled into a .BGL.

- Share the .INI AND the .XML, and tell your friend to start the GSX Control Panel utility, even before starting the sim, to create the Exclude .BGL

- DO NOT share the .INI and the .BGL because, a .BGL alone without its parent .XML will be considered "orphaned", and removed by the GSX Control Panel at the next run.

- Sharing all 3 ( .INI, .XML and .BGL ) surely works but, it might be more difficult to install, since each of them will have to go into a different folder.

G'day All

I put this together today to help those (and me) get around the technical aspects of the SODE jetways. Let me know if you have any problems with the instructions.

Cheers

Thanks Umberto,
There is a group of 5 liscensed users that are now sharing with a simple instructions on the 3 files drop that in 15 secs they benefit from my configurations and is all working fine for all of us. Now i manage to configure airports without jetways, with exclusions and even with SODE (e.g. EDDM from AS with more than 70 fingers). I will have close to 100 airports done and tested in this group in a couple of weeks. Cheers... p.d when will we be able to config ORBX airports?

Umberto,

I managed to really master your GSX2, is pretty amazing once you get the hang of it.  I have made already 23 of the major airports in Europe. Even some of the SODE restricted airports.  I see people struggling a bit about this, what do you suggest i do with this pack? In a couple of weeks  the list of airports will grow up to 100 of Europes top scenries.

Javier

Hello,
I have a big problem with gsx level 2! When I want to exclude all my jetways from a scenery for example Dubai or EDDF professional on p3dv4 I increase the exclusion radius but nothing to do only one jetway is excluded. I can’t play with these sceneries because It is unrealistic what can I do? :'(

do not increase the radius to include more jets, it does not work like that.
on the left u see the jetways that are customizable by GSX with a /J by the gate number.  Select several using the CTRL + selecting with the mouse left click. then check the window of the radius, and press apply. that is how you work with several gates at same time. The same applies if you want to change the type of jetway or so for several gates.  If you want, here is the whole EDDF already done by me. follow the instructions. ENJOY!

We'll surely have a better way to share and download customization files. It's not something easy we can do it quickly, but we'll eventually get there, with something fully integrated in the software.

Sorry, but the tutorial does not explain how to change all jetways at the same terminal. What do you mean with "left side of the screen"?
Could you specify where we can do this?

Also, in one of the previous, you mentioned we can edit the logos for the jetways (with own images). Is this possible?

In the customize airport parking menu.. on the left are all the positions of that airport

I think he means he can only replace the one that's operated by the default jetway, and not the 2nd (or 3rd) at the same gate. Increasing the radius doesn't work indeed. How can you replace the other jetways?
I did get it to work at Flytampa EHAM (both heavy jetways), but not at aerosoft EDDF.

This has been discussed so many times on the forum. Aerosoft EDDF has many jetways that are not modeled independently, so there's no way to exclude them other than changing the actual scenery.

Yes, it CAN be done, if you are really willing to do it:

Hi
Have you tried SODE GSX 2 jetways with the new LEMD airport from Sim-Wings (Aerosoft)?
I am able to create and visualize in the airport SODE GSX 2 jetways and disable the original static ones but they are not operative.
When I try to operate the SODE GSX 2 jetway using SODE menu it says there is "no triggerable object around" (something similar) and if I try to do it by using GSX menu, I select the operating company (i.e. Menzies) but nothing happens.
Any suggestion?
Thanks!

José

PS: I have created SODE GSX 2 jetways for other airports (like, for example LEBL also from Sim-Wings) and they work like a charm.

Hola Jose,
I strongly suggest NOT to install the SODE folder in Madrid. I suggest you use my GSX2 configuration that is in my folder https://www.dropbox.com/sh/bdkjqee8x1w57lm/AAAl4p_7jyl6jBmHnH1gumjRa?dl=0 (https://www.dropbox.com/sh/bdkjqee8x1w57lm/AAAl4p_7jyl6jBmHnH1gumjRa?dl=0). This are much better than the jetways of the scenery.
Go to LEMD folder and follow the instructions. There you will find charts of LEMD with indications of the more than 80 jetways for GSX2. I published it this afternoon. There are a total of 35 airports.
Hope you like it. If u need help let me know.

This could have been an option. Surly we can determine if AI settings need to lowered or if SODE for AI should be off according to our preference/systems. The manual could have included information about this and leave it to us like the SODE platform manager does.

Tried the EHAM - Amsterdam - P4D FlyTampa v1.11 from GSX FINISHED and I get no jetways in P3Dv4 EHAM Gate D43 So far I can see only one jetway from another neighbor gate.
EDIT: Found issue and resolved. Didn't change the .ini file as instructed. Now it is fine. Please, keep doing more .ini files for more airports.

The same day they release the scenery came with an update and the installer now has that option. Redownload your software or is as simple as to make sure you have the afcad that corresponds to the one that is in the .ini file. This one is Sim-wings Madrid Barajas Professional\scenery\LEMD_AFX-OP02.bgl. you need to have such file in your Scenery folder, if you do not have it, is because you do not have the latest version of the scenery.

You are absolutely 100% correct! the problem is when in a SODE file you have other things than jetways. You have to be able to edit such XML files and delete the just the jetway related issues as not to loose other Sode effects.

On my FSX SE i can't compile anything with FSDT GSX control panel , also COUATL stops working evry time , also restarting FSX even if i disable default jetways theyre still always there and the SODE ones are not. I've tried hundreds times now to customize , move, delete , restore , check , uncheck , tick , untick , reload reload reload..... still GSX 2 doesn't work at all. Specially on sceneries like Gatwick xtreme EGKK which i am mostly flying from/to. I've followed the tutorial step by step and still nothing's working. I am desperate. Please help  >:(

Please describe this problem more clearly. Do you see errors ? Which ones ?

Quote
also COUATL stops working evry time

Couatl usually gives an error detail, which you should always include in every report, so we can tell you what the problem is. Always be sure you run the latest Live Update before reporting a problem, since we do updates very often.

Quote
if i disable default jetways theyre still always there and the SODE ones are not.

Please read the manual, and the forum. Some jetways CANNOT be excluded, if they are static and modeled as part of the terminal.

No problems whatsoever with that one, see this new video I just made for you. Less than 4 minutes to replace all jetways at once:

Good day, Umberto. Thank you for your product. I believe it has definitely changed the way we look at FS. With that said, i saw your tutorial and i was wondering if it could be more in depth as far as changing the jetways at each airport. I'll be the first to admit i am not highspeed like most of these young snakeaters so being the dummy that i am would need a bit more just to make sure i do it right the first time. I want to use your product correctly and i know that everything i am doing is user error and that's fine. I learn by doing and following along. This is just a request, i can only imagine how busy you guys over at FSDT are. Another thing is how to reset everything to previous if you make a mistake. Thank you again for this, i cant say it enough, i will add more of your products to my sim in the coming months and years and thank you for your help. Attached is the issue i had when i selected the entire airport, obviously not all have jetways hehe.

Another thing is how to reset everything to previous if you make a mistake.

Everything in the editor is hierarchic and does things depending on what you selected on the left-hand side of the editing dialog.

- If you select a single parking, every change you do there, will be applied to that single parking.

- If you select two or more parking spots (by pressing CTRL and click on their names), every change will be applied to such parking spots.

- If you select a group of parking spots (for example, a terminal), by clicking the name of the group itself, all parking below will be automatically selected and every change will applied to them.

- If you select the whole airport, by clicking to the top-most node (the Airport), changes will be applied to the whole airport.

This, of course, applies to every setting, even the RESET button! So, that's the answer of your question: "how to reset everything?". Just click on the top Airport node, and press RESET.

And please note the new filter jetways button, which filters out a selection, leaving only gates with a jetways selected, which is useful to do mass-changes to parking spots with jetways only.

Umberto, thanks for the explanation. When you select the gate, does it automatically know if it has 1 or two jetways? For example, EDDF that has 2-3 gates, does it automatically pop up? I dont know if i am asking this question correctly. Zurich is also another airport with this kind of problem im having. I will try again with what you mentioned in the previous post.

As explained in the manual, and on the forum so many times, GSX will not allow customization of a SODE jetway. If you delete the SODE XML file, you will likely have to Restart Couatl and restart SODE too, or just restart the sim.

I have all of my buttons disabled in P3Dv4 as per EZCA instructions except for those that are programmed on my Logitech G940 Joystick to avoid conflict,  which also includes keys on the NUM pad. Will this prevent me from moving GSX v2 jetways? The reason I ask is because I cannot move the Jetways at all. Right now my Jetways are on top of the roof at one specific airport, and I will like to move them down to ground level. I have gone through the manual, but none of the keys function like I thought they would. Is it even possible to move your Jetways up and down, and if so, how?

If with "all of my buttons disabled in P3Dv4" you mean you disabled ALSO the keys on the Num pad, is entirely normal you cannot use GSX anymore. Restore all settings to default, and disable Ezdok camera while using GSX is the only option.

This has been explained so many times on the forum ( and on the manual too ), SODE jetways cannot customized.

Well, technically they can, but you'll have to remove their SODE XML file in the C:\program data\12bpilot folder, and be careful with it, because the developer might have used SODE for other things as well, not just jetways so, just removing that file might cause other problems. Ideally, you should only remove jetways from it, leaving everything else inside. But this is really advanced scenery editing and it's out of the scope of GSX or that tutorial.

For normal users, just let assume SODE jetways cannot be edited.

I hope this tutorial I have made helps you:

I've seen almost all of it, and it's very good. Just one remark:

- The issue you found about not being able to customize gates with "black" gate numbers is now fixed in the Live Update we posted a couple of days ago, and it was related to sceneries with more than 256 parking spots in total. Now, we support up to 1024.

Now this is awesome!! i have erased that chapter on LEMD that dealt with this, as to not confuse people.
Is odd because within the simulator i pressed yes to update in the last 2 updates that came yesterday and did not solve the issue, i also do regularly coatl2 updates.. today i did the FSDT Live update from outside the sim using your aplication and everything was solved.

I must have missed something...

Followed Tutorial to replace FlightBeam Studios KSFO jetways and nothing changed.

See screenshot. I appreciate any help.

FB KSFO comes with SODE gateways out of the box. Nothing to replace at that airport...

Just a guess, but it sounds like you are trying to replace the jetways in the legacy version of FB KSFO. If you are you will need to rename or delete the "Jetwayplacement.bgl" file in the scenery folder. The old jetways are static. If i am wrong my apologies.

Hello Umberto,

I have a small problem in Aerosofts Bergen vor Prepar3Dv4.
After installation of the add on everything ist fine (see picture 1). Then I use Orbx Global Vector Tool "Airport Elevation Corrections" and than I have a graphic mistage by the jetways based at the level corrections (see picture 2). Installed are the current version of the SODE jetways.

My question is now, can I fix the mistake with GSX Level 2?

Best regards,
Oliver

Hello,
I've read the material (the first 3 or 4 forum questions) but I had no luck with my issue which is:
I've purchased GSX Level 2. I now have a problem in that when I now import other third-party airport (w/SODE option(s) as well) sceneries, I have a 50/50 chance that the scenery will install correctly (as far as the air bridges) are concerned. On some scenery installations the jetway is looking up toward the sky or digging itself a hole in the tarmac or does not work at all. I never worried how the install would look but now it seems to be ANY scenery I add to my scenery library I can count on it not being install correctly or it looking funny! Is there something I'm doing incorrectly or is there some other perimeter I'm not checking? I've been use to install and go, but it seems no more! One of the more constant issues is when I go to the new scenery and activate GSX for a spot it tells me there's no jetway located for the desired location???? When I force one there and I receive another notification saying it can't do it! The whole time I'm having this problem I'm able to SEE the air-bridge I want to use, the program asks for what door and after my selection is made GSX stops working and nothing happens with the air-bridge.

Am I able to go back to 'SODE' provided sceneries and just work with them until I understand the full integration of GSX Level 2?

Thanks!
Richard Rice

I now have a problem in that when I now import other third-party airport (w/SODE option(s) as well) sceneries, I have a 50/50 chance that the scenery will install correctly (as far as the air bridges) are concerned.

Please be more clear. By saying "w/SODE option(s) as well", you mean some sceneries that have SODE jetwasy opposed to other sceneries that don't have SODE (and you have problems with both), or the same scenery that is giving you an option to use either SODE jetways or CTRL+J jetways ?

In any case, depending on the option, none of your problems are caused by GSX, because:

- If the airport use SODE jetways, GSX won't do anything to it, and won't even allow you to do anything to it, unless you explicitly remove its SODE XML configuration file. So, whatever issues you have on a scenery that use SODE jetways, it's nothing to do with GSX and would allow just as GSX was never installed, since those jetways are *created* by the scenery with SODE, configured in the SODE XML file that comes with the scenery, and are entirely activated by SODE. The only information we get about them, is their number, location and their height so we can walk passengers through them, but we don't have any control over their appearance or how they work.

- If the airport use CTRL+J jetways, GSX again won't do anything to them by default. You must go through the whole exclusion procedure, which will then allow you to put a GSX/SODE jetway in place of the old one. But before you do that, nothing in GSX has changed anything on a 3rd party scenery jetway that uses CTRL+J modes. The only models we replace automatically are those on default airports.

Why would the jetway option be disabled using the Aircraft Position Editor?  It's already a SODE jetway but I want to customize it by putting the United logo on the jetway.

Thanks,

Because it's a SODE jetway.

Quote

It's precisely because it's a SODE jetway that you cannot customize it, since GSX assumes if a 3rd party scenery came with SODE jetways, it wouldn't make much sense replacing them. In order to be customizable, a jetway must be a GSX/SODE Jetway, one that has been added by GSX, not already included in a 3rd party scenery.

If a scenery already comes with SODE jetways, it cannot be further customized, unless you do it manually, and remove all SODE jetways from the scenery SODE XML configuration file.

Not all jetways can be disabled with an Exclude file (regardless how large your exclude area is, and 100 mt is surely wrong, because you'll end up excluding other things you don't want), only those that are made using the CTRL+J method can be excluded this way.

If a jetway is static, and part of the terminal building, the only way to remove it, is to remove the library .BGL that contains the actual model, hoping it would contain only jetways.

Hello all together,

today I tried the first Time to replace Jetways from a 3rd party Airport using the turorial. In my case EGLL by SimWings / Aerosoft, using FSX Acceleration.
But I think I started wrong, or did something diffrent, because when I want to start and scenery had been loaded, I found the following Situation (Attachement Jetway probleme Heathrow).
There is allready a new Jetway at the Gate and I didn´t know how it comes there, or how to remove. On my last "arrival" at EGLL it wasn´t there....
Don´t know how to work with, or if this is right?? My Settings in the Customization Area is shown on the second Attachement.
I´m sorry for this, but I don´t know how to continue.

joerg

Have you run the GSX Control Panel to create the actual exclude files ? Also, keep in mind that not all jetways can be excluded, only those that are modeled independently from the terminal.

Yes I did.
But let me tell you, I solved the issue I had.
There was allready made an .ini File for EGLL at C:\xxxx\AppData\Roaming\Virtuali\GSX. Maybe I was to fast and pushed some buttons I don´t had to.
After deleting this File, everything went Ok. So now I can have a new try at Heathrow.

Hello.

Jetway replacement doesnt seem to work for me anymore. On no airport, not even on EHAM (Flytampe) where you made the video in. I got it to work many months ago, at the release of level2, then didnt bother anymore for a while and now i dont get it to work anymore. I understand that it doesnt work on every airport, for example when it has fixed jetways and those things.

What happens is either 1 of 3 things, sometimes more than 1 of the 3 are combined:

- GSX jetway doesnt "drop" after setting exclude radius
- after compiling the bgl and restart sim the GSX jetway is gone after it reappeared first time hitting the exclusion zone
- after compiling the bgl the standard airport jetway doesnt go away

Im running 4.5.2, latest GSX update and everything else of GSX is working fine.
AddonManager is showing in menu, as well as SODE. GSX stuff is excluded in AV/Defender.

I just tried on 4 airports, none of them worked and always had 1 or more of the mentioned problems. Last example EDDM, T2G.
I started sim, went to "Customize airport positions", set 1 for radius and hit apply. GSX lv 2 model appeared, i changed the font etc, hit apply and closed the sim.
Then i compiled the BGL, started sim again and GSX lv 2 jetway is missing, and the standard gate still there too. Now i cannot get the GSX jetway to appear anymore, regardless how many meters i insert into the field. It simply doesnt appear anymore.

On the other airports the same, aslo EHAM. It appears, i hit apply, want to compile bgl and after sim restart its gone.

What can be wrong?

I can't reproduce your problem. I tried a scenery that comes with default CTRL+J jetways, Madrid from Simwings, and did exactly the following steps, worked fine:

- Went to the airport

- Chose Add-ons -> GSX -> "Customize airport positions"

- Clicked the "Select parkings w/J in Gate" button. This resulted in 71 parking spots selected.

- Clicked the "Jetway Exclude Radius" check, leaving the value at default of 1.0 meters. After some pause, all gates had the default GSX replacement model, in addition to the original that came with the scenery.

- Exited the sim.

- Started the GSX Control panel, and waited until the Compile button went active.

- Clicked "Compile", and it created a 000_LEMD_GSX_JWEXCL.BGL file in the Fsdreamteam\Exclude\Scenery folder

- Restarted the sim, the GSX cache was rebuilt in a couple of seconds.

- Went to LEMD, only the GSX replacement jetways were present.

- Restarted the sim, all jetways were still there on restart.

- Tried customizing the model, so I selected all parking with gates again, chose a model with crystals, removed the logo and the number (the real airport doesn't seem to use them), and all jetways changed, after some pause.

- Restarted the sim, all jetways were still there on restart, exactly as they were customized the last time.

Thank you.

I believe you that :-) Would have surprised me if its an overall problem. The question is more what it could be. Besides this i have what i would call an "example sim", where compared to seemingly 70% of others everything works as intended. Just this problem bugs me and i dont really have a clue what could be the problem.

I just saw that it seems that the compiled BGLs get deleted. If i start sim, do all those things you say, close and open p3d again (now its the moment where the created jetway is missing) and then close the sim a second time the GSX tool where one can compile doesnt list the BGL anymore. Seems it only creates it temporary or something like that.

But i have set the whole gsx folder to Defender exclusion so i dont really see what else could interfere here. I try to make a video, maybe you can spot what i either do wrong or what happens.

Tried to follow your guide above for the Aerosoft Tromso X (ENTC) airport. 4 Jetways are tagged as /J but the method above does not work at all - anybody tried this with this airport?

Hello,
I'm new to GSX and I love it. There's only one thing that's quiet hard. When I want to replace Jetways of a third parts airport (aerosoft i.e.), the jetways remain where they were, they just don't disappear.

So far I used AES from aerosoft, but I deleted this programm and I deactivated AES on those airports, that were supported by AES. But nothing changed. The jetways are still there.

What can I do? Do I need to reinstall thos airports?

I'm using FSX.

Thanks for any reply.

Cheers,
Tim

It's not possible to help you without you providing a precise explanation of what you did. It's not clear, for example, if you followed the complete procedure, which is:

- enable the "jetway exclude radius" checkmark for all parking spots that have a jetway you want to remove

- exit from the sim

- start the GSX control panel

- compile the XML file that has been created

- exit the GSX control panel

- restart the sim.

When a parking position has 2 or 3 jetways and after arrival and engines shut down, it only shows up one option for docking, what could be wrong? It should allow me to choose any of the available jetways for that gate, right? It always picks up a further jetway, thus when it docks to the plane it passes through the closest jetway (which should be the one used instead).

Nothing is wrong, GSX will always shows only the jetways that can solve that particular combination of airplane, doors, jetway model and parking positions.

I'm afraid to inform that's not quite the case, the only option of jetway that is being offered for selection is one of them that is not the most suitable for the plane type and position. Then, what happens is that the selected jetway crashes over another one (which in turn is the most suitable, since it's closer to the plane and unobstructed).
Also, I've seen several cases where a multiple selection of jetways is made available for the user to choose.

Sorry, but I can only repeat and confirm that nothing is "wrong" with GSX, but you must understand how it works.

First, about the jetways crossing into each other. This can only happen if you use the automatic servicing option, which will auto-dock jetways or, if you dock them manually, if you cross them intentionally.

GSX cannot possibly know in advance if jetways might cross into each other, that's why they might cross if you use auto-docking and it won't prevent you do cross them. As explained in other threads when asked about this, to prevent jetways to cross, you should configure one jetway that would only solve on ONE door, and another jetway that would only solve on ANOTHER door.

That's normal and it's also normal you won't always see this. GSX will only show a menu with jetways that will solve depending on that particular combination of airplane, doors, jetway model and parking positions. And, if there's only ONE jetway that would solve to ONE door, it will even SKIP the menu because, of course, it would be silly to offer a menu with only 1 choice.

Anyway, I wasn't the one who set it up, I don't even know how to do that (hence why I asked at first). I got this from one of these websites that provide GSX jetways replacements for those bad Ctrl+J ones.  Now, regarding the selection, again I don't know what happens, but in this case the selection menu is being shown and with only one option.

I'm not 100% sure but, it's possible the menu will be skipped only if there's one choice for the operator, but it will still show if there's only one choice for the jetways.

Hello Umberto,
i have two airports who has both sode jetways (I get them work - docking and undocking) with the standard sode keycommands (Tab-S) but not with the gsx menu. I have the GSX2, the airports are EDDC (Justsim) and lqsa (MK)
How can i:
1. How can i controll this jetways with gsx?
2. How can i change the livery of this jetways?

Best regards for your help

Peter

The issue of 3rd party jetways usable only from SODE must be fixed by the scenery developer, as explained here:

You can't change anything in a 3rd party jetway added with SODE.

To be able to change the model or the livery, they must be GSX jetways so, you must first remove the jetways the scenery came with, by removing their XML file in the C:\ProgramData\12bpilot\XML folder, and then add GSX jetways on each gate using the GSX editor.
